All else aside, you get used to this portion of things pretty quickly if you live in DC. There are a decent number of buildings and events where you'll see USSS staff fully armed up (SMGs are not entirely rare), particularly around anything Treasury-related. If you hang around some entrances a little too long, you'll be politely asked to keep moving. It really does look like something out of a movie, but it's just a normal part of life there. Flying out of DCA and sitting behind Jack Lew, the dude next to me looked like an exceptionally dangerous suit...

Dark Brandon has now become Dank Brandon.

A great move and long, long, long overdue. The bigger problem is state-level legislation but he can't do shit about backwards-ass states. At least potentially reclassifying marijuana with a lower classification and pardoning all federal possession offenses should go a long way in helping a lot of people (and making the cost of our prisons a bit cheaper).

I enjoy that he's highlighting that, as with many moves benefitting low-income folks, this move disproportionately benefits people of color. Not as an intention, but as a consequence of how drug laws, prosecutions, and jail sentences have been handled over the years. And people are already complaining about it being racist as a result, rather than it simply addressing decades of the consequences of systemic racism.

Good, but it will be challenged in court by the GOP.

Which will be a real crisis in faith for Joe Rogan and Bill Maher.
Sure they love the aesthetics of the weed-loving life ... But they're really aching for those top marginal tax cuts.

On what grounds? The president has the Constitutional authority to issue pardons unrestricted (as Trump demonstrated by pardoning people who unrepentantly committed crimes on his behalf), and beyond that all he's doing is asking other people to use their authority.

I'm sure the best minds at Fed SoC or ALEC will come up with a bullshit reason. That ignores most precedent. Or like reimaging of the 14th amendment to protect the interests of wealthy white dudes.

The Rehnquist and Roberts Courts in a nutshell:
    • Executive power is broad and expansive whenever the GOP is control.
    • Executive power is bad and tyrannical when Dems have the Whitehouse ... muh state rights.

White House social media team still shitposting and I love whoever is running this.

Highlighting a thread from a reporter detailing many of the Republicans that voted against the infrastructure bill and have maligned it in the media as "socialist" and "radical"...are all reaching out to the Biden administration, hat in hand, to beg for money. Some appealing directly to Buttigieg hoping their shared past as mayors will help them get one of those radical socialist government handouts.

And you know what? Fuck 'em.

    They get nothing.

They voted against it and spent a year shit talking it publicly. You get nothing if that's your position. Sucks for your constituents, but maybe they should elect better politicians who don't vote against their interests.

Biden: I'm calling on state leaders to pardon folks for simple marijuana possession and stop prosecuting for it!

TX Republicans: Like fuck we will, we're going to enforce our vague weed laws that are based around THC concentrations despite having no testing facilities to actually tell the difference between hemp and pot!

    https://apnews.com/article/austin-ma...7697c827fb6209

The letter sent by Gov. Greg Abbott together with Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, House Speaker Dennis Bonnen and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton pushes back against prosecutors in Texas’ biggest, liberal cities several weeks after they announced they would no longer accept misdemeanor marijuana cases due to the law’s problems.
Democrats are fine with personal recreational pot use, which is in-line with national views on the topic. Meanwhile, Republicans continue to choose majority unpopular positions simply to be contrarian.

Meanwhile in Canada, I'm gonna put in an online order at one of my local dispensaries (there's two in my small town) where I can sort my recreational cannabis options by THC level to ensure I get as fully blasted as I want to. Because it's about as difficult to get ahold of here as some whisky or rum would be.

Just to draw the line about how spectacularly silly this fight is, in 2022.

I’ll see your belief that spending bills should only benefit the states that voted for them, as support the idea that tax cuts should only benefit the states that vote for them.

But back to reality, it’s money they didn’t want spent at all, but have no power to reverse the spending. All they can do is return as much of it as possible back to their taxpayers wallets. If they choose to forfeit the results of spending legislation, it doesn’t stop it from being spent anyways, or go any length to returning it to taxpayers.

But I am rather happy that Democrats are putting out messaging that doesn’t make sense to the average voter. It’s getting very close to election time.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time." "So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Same here in CA, and it can come delivered right to my doorstep too. It really is the fuckin future.

Drivers are all super nice, and often not remotely the kinds of folks you'd expect to be doing deliveries for a dispensary.

That's not my belief, actually. And I don't believe anyone here has expressed that belief, either.

I'll quote myself and add emphasis to what I actually wrote -

If you didn't vote for it and it passed, fine. If you want to be critical of it despite not voting for it and say you disagree with parts, or all of the bill, fine. But if you're going to spend the better part of a year frequently attacking the legislation and maligning it as "socialism" and "radical", then I'm not sure why they'd also come begging for the money?

Or why the administration should give a shit?

This is you continuing to try to normalize fairly extremist behavior by lawmakers.

Then they had ample opportunity to work to get their specific spending desires included in the bill so that even if they don't like it, at least they're making sure that their district/state is being taken care of.

That's not what any are doing, they want the money to spend. Which helps stimulate local economies and create jobs.

What messaging doesn't make sense? That they're highlighting the hypocrisy of reactionary Republicans?

My wife has been using them to control the symptoms of her Chiari Malformation since 2012. She always had them delivered.

Now she gets them from Berner on Haight which is 10 minutes from our home. Free delivery on order over $50. Not advertised, but if you pay cash, 10% off.

Kinda weird. If you look at the dispensaries map of San Francisco, there are no dispensaries west of the Haight. It almost looks like there is an invisible border at the Haight.

they actually could have refused to spend the money and even accept it. they have that ability.

They could have also, believe it or not, taken every dime and written a check from the state to the US treasury to pay down the national debt.

But they ate it all up, nom nom nom, and used to to spend spend spend while saying they hated doing it. I have the same problem with ice cream. hate hate hate eating it...yah...ummm hate...nom nom nom
    Buh Byeeeeeeeeeeee !!

Considering most tax cuts go to the obscenely wealthy, I'd love for you to describe some of these """benefits."""

But Republicans already have. The 2017 tax cut.

Which, as a reminder, remains historically unpopular. Which is mighty impressive for any tax cut. Republican voters in Republican states didn't even benefit from their own parties fuckin tax cut, lol.
