Russia semiconductor design may be 20 years behind. Their fabrication is pretty much zero.
China semiconductor design is probably on par with the US. Fabrication is generations behind, and the gap is getting larger. SMSC still can’t mass produce 7-nm chips. Both Korea and Taiwan are already working on 2-nm, and US and Taiwan companies are already starting to mass produce gallium chips. Although still limited to the defense and aerospace industries.
Not russia, but belarus, saying they could help supply russia with processors... with their 350nm process. So if they can get it down to 40nm, they've got uh... a step up on the competition!
What I'm seeing though, is that 90nm is the best they can do for large scale production, from a company called mikron. Everything else is just proof of concept stuff that has no real relation to working large scale fabs.

Belarus has one fab, Dziarzhinsky in Minsk.
According to latest data, there are no producing fabs left in Russia.
Ironic. In the 1980s, US intelligence estimated that Russia was within a few years of catching up with it. In the 1980s, the Pentagon wanted very high-speed integrated circuits. The Department of Defense thus started the Very High-Speed Integrated Circuit program (VHSIC) and invested in excess of $2 billion in the effort. It never succeeded in making any VHSIC integrated circuits, mostly because commercial processors far outperformed what the Pentagon aimed at producing.
The Russian approach, on the other hand, was to do everything in secret. It is mostly focused on military requirements. That is far different from the US, China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan or European producers, all of which have strong commercial sectors. As a result of Russian secrecy, purges and a lack of access to Western know-how, Russia slipped irretrievably backward and behind.
By the late 1980s, Russia was more than 10 years behind the US. Russia’s electronics technology slide was not reversed by the end of the Cold War – in fact, things got considerably worse. Much worse.

First off, fuckin lol that the conservative Cato institute is crying that they won't be able to hire graduates on the cheap because working there helps them with loan forgiveness programs due to Biden's student debt forgiveness. The launch of President Joe Biden's student-loan forgiveness application isn't stopping the conservative lawsuits from piling on.
On Tuesday, the Cato Institute — a libertarian think tank cofounded by Charles Koch — filed a federal lawsuitt in Kansas against Biden's up to $20,000 in debt relief announced at the end of August. Represented by the New Civil Liberties Alliance, Cato argued that this broad relief undermines hiring benefits brought on by the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, which is intended to cancel student debt for government and nonprofit workers after ten years of qualifying payments.
As a nonprofit organization, Cato's case claims that canceling student debt broadly for federal borrowers would remove the appeal of PSLF and stunt recruiting efforts.
"The Constitution does not give the federal government the power to fund, guarantee, or cancel student loans. But if it's going to wield illegitimate power, it should at least do so without additional, maybe even more fundamental, violence to the rule of law," Cato President Peter Goettler said in a statement. "Allowing the executive branch to undermine the explicit policy choices of the legislative branch, as President Biden's debt-cancellation scheme plainly does, is completely beyond the pale."
Also, if the Constitution doesn't grant the federal government the power to fund or guarantee student loans...why haven't they sued about this like...I dunno when the federal government started the practices?
Republicans really want to keep young adults who went to school poor, don't they. This is at least the sixth major lawsuit a conservative group has filed attempting to halt the debt cancellation process.
Dank Robinette wins again.
So it lands after midterms. Would you want your party to be on the receiving end of this ad?
"Which party fought to revoke the President's loan forgiveness program in the middle these trying economic times? Which party is trying to take money the Democrats want to put back in your pockets, by forgiving federal student loans?"

That is their thing with everything.
Gas prices? Oh, Biden's fault, to them. Even though Trump made the deal with Opec to reduce production that shot prices up.
Afghanistan withdrawal? Oh, Biden's fault again, even though Trump is on video bragging about it before it happened that Biden couldn't get out of the deal. Then soldiers get killed and blame Biden again.
Reuters: U.S. SUPREME COURT JUSTICE AMY CONEY BARRETT DENIES WISCONSIN TAXPAYERS GROUP'S BID TO BLOCK BIDEN'S STUDENT DEBT RELIEF
Yes the caps! I guess this person is excited about the news.
Not sure if this kills any interference of Student Debt Relief moving forward, but this should at least get the process going so some will get the relief. A program at least moving forward should become popular and get results.
"Buh dah DEMS"
The question is why did she go this route? I see a few options.
1) They lacked any standing where not even she could twist it to let it stick so will take it up when some with standing try it.
2) She knows that if they take up the case right now it might drive up voter turn out against the GOP while also creating a stronger push to expand and pack the courts to dilute their stolen majority. They worked hard to ill got them gains and last thing they want is some uppity majority actually appointing judges that represent the law, the nation, and the will of the people.
3) They have something really messed up planned pretty soon down the pipes and don't want the public already pissed when it hits, like maybe that case that would allow the GOP to ignore the courts, the population, and their own states constitutions when it comes to messing with the votes. At which point it very will and justifiably can lead to massive violence and the last thing they want is an already angry populace when it hits increasing the turn out against it even more.
4) Or a broken clock being right at least twice a day.
So which is the reason why?
or none of the above.
When a judge on the Supreme Court rejects a case like this it isn't because of their own views on the matter, one way or another, rather it's because the case didn't get enough votes from the Supreme Court judges in general to be considered. You need a certain amount of judges on the Supreme Court, 4 to be precise I think, for a case even to be heard in the first place.
If the votes aren't there a specific judge will reject the case, each judges oversees a region.

Dank Robinette has had enough of the MAGA malarky of complaining about the debt/deficit or forgiving student loans, coming from the same people who had millions in PPP loans forgiven.
He then goes down the list to call out some Republicans and how much they received in PPP loans, and if it was forgiven.
You'd think if Republicans were so concerned about loan forgiveness that they'd all be rejecting their PPP loan forgiveness and pay it back themselves! Those "slackers" don't deserve the relief, they're not the "elite" who are apparently the ones receiving student loan forgiveness!
Na, they're just wrong about what happens with this type of filing. Barret unilaterally denied it.
Justice Amy Coney Barrett on Thursday denied a Wisconsin taxpayers group’s bid to block the Biden administration’s student-loan forgiveness program while litigation over the program continues in a lower court. Barrett acted alone, without referring the matter to the full court or asking the government to respond.

Thanks, not been read up on this stuff much myself.
Just because we're nearing election time and there is always one dumb fuck who is gonna ask to try and checkmate you.
The distance between what is said and what is known to be true has become an abyss. Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous. The death of truth is the ultimate victory of evil. When truth leaves us, when we let it slip away, when it is ripped form our hands, we become vulnerable to the appetite of whatever monster screams the loudest.
