Biden will probably withhold aid because Huckabee's state didn't vote for him. Just kidding. Biden will send money, maybe help as well, because he's not a petty piece of shit.

Why is this in the Biden thread?

Because in a 4-3 decision in 2023 with a Conservative-leaning court, the State Supreme Court threw out a last-ditch effort by Trump cutlists to throw out 200,000 ballots in Wisconsin. Now the court is Democrat-leaning court and this has absolutely no-shot.

IN ADDITION, Democrats in Wisconsin now have a path to re-draw the highly gerrymandered maps that allow a state that has consistently voted D in the majority of state wide elections for the last 5 years and eliminate the GOP supermajority in the Senate and the majority in the House. Disenfranchised voters have been turning out in droves for 5 years and it's time for big change to happen in Wisconsin to really shift it to a bluer shade of purple.
They also lost a seat in the state legislation though, handing the Republicans a super majority in either the state senate or state house. Whichever one is able to impeach...of course Wisconsin law allows them to impeach with impunity anyone in government so they are already discussing it as an option.

Yeah, no, you're 100% wrong on pretty much EVERYTHING you just posted.

1-Democrats didn't lose a seat. Republican State Senator Alberta Darling retired. Dan Knodl is now the Republican State Senator occupying that seat after the election Tuesday. Democrats didn't lose the seat, Republicans retained the seat.

2-The Republicans already held a Supermajority in the State Senate. They are, however, short by two seats of a Supermajority in the Assembly.

3-Wisconsin law does NOT allow them to impeach with impunity. They are allowed to impeach civil servants, such as governor or Lt gov. if they impeach Evers, his Lt Gov. takes over and he can appoint a new Lt. Gov who then takes over if they impeach him. They can't just vote to invalidate any Democrats holding office and replace them with Republicans.

4-Wisconsin law does NOT allow Republicans to impeach judges without a supermajority in both Assembly and Senate. This is a part of the state constitution and is entirely separate from the part discussing impeachment of civil servants. As mentioned, they don't have the supermajority in the Assembly to make this happen.

5-If they could somehow impeach incoming SC Justice Janet Protasiewicz, she would be replaced on appointment from Democratic Gov. Evers. So the court will still have a 5-4 Lean D.

6-Any attempts at impeachment without cause is going to go VERY badly for Republicans in Wisconsin. The Democrat base is already fired up and getting massive amount of turnout and any attempt to subvert the will of the voters is going to backfire spectacularly. As mentioned in point 1, they already had the Supermajority in the Senate and could've impeached Evers. They have not done so because they know it's a losing strategy.

7-The SC victory has neutered Republicans hope to take full control of Wisconsin. The next thing on the judge's docket is to overturn the old abortion law, but after that, they will, hopefully, be reviewing cases regarding the recent redistricting and force fairer maps which in future elections, will result in them not being able to achieve supermajority as a minority party.

Report from the White House on the Afghanistan withdrawal is out, predictably blaming Trump.

The White House on Thursday publicly released a 12-page summary of the results of the so-called “hotwash” of U.S. policies around the ending of the nation’s longest war, taking little responsibility for its own actions. The administration said most of the after-action reviews, which were transmitted privately to Congress on Thursday, were highly classified and would not be released publicly.

“President Biden’s choices for how to execute a withdrawal from Afghanistan were severely constrained by conditions created by his predecessor,” the White House summary states, noting that when Biden entered office, “the Taliban were in the strongest military position that they had been in since 2001, controlling or contesting nearly half of the country.”
Expected stuff, though also likely very practical and real given what we knew already.

The report does fault overly optimistic intelligence community assessments about the Afghan army’s willingness to fight, and says Biden followed military commanders’ recommendations for the pacing of the drawdown of U.S. forces.
Explains why many were caught so flat-footed, but at the same time like...hadn't the US learned at that point that despite all the years and money that the former Afghan military and government wasn't exactly the most trustworthy or credible or sources?

“We now prioritize earlier evacuations when faced with a degrading security situation,” the White House said, citing Ukraine and Ethiopia as examples.
Don't want to have an embarrassing third war where people are being evacuated by helicopter from rooftops.

The thing is, if the SC tries to fix the rampant gerrymandering, what do they have to lose? They'll be out of a job anyway by the next election with a fair map.

Wisconsin is an odd state in that, the electorate here will fuck over politicians who fuck around. They've got a lot to lose. Because if fair maps are drawn AND the Democrat base is even more fired up AND the Republican base is down because of recent losses, another Trump run, and general annoyance at the antics of the current Republican politicians, then things could COMPLETELY flip.

    As in.

Let's say we take maps today and make them "Fair" so that it's more of a 50/50 split, the depressed R turnout combined with the energized D turnout could result in super majorities for Democrats.

Any last ditch impeachment efforts are going to do nothing but obstruct at a time when people are already annoyed with the direction of the current Senate/Assembly.

So your question is, "What do they have to lose?"

    The answer is everything.

Biden review blames Trump’s decisions for chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal as it transmits reports to Congress

President Joe Biden’s administration blamed conditions created by President Donald Trump for the chaotic withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan in the summer of 2021, according to a summary of findings from an administration-wide after-action review released Thursday.

The 12-page summary document does not overtly admit any mistakes. Still, it acknowledges certain lessons that have been applied since, including on the speed of evacuating citizens and allies. And it cites intelligence that provided overly rosy projections of the security situation and notes Biden followed recommendations from his military commanders in executing the withdrawal.
Yeah...that's the same thing. That said, the report did point out what we all already knew:

The report cites the agreement Trump reached with the Taliban
Terrorists. They were Taliban terrorists. Trump negotiated with the Taliban terrorists, signed a contract with the Taliban terrorists, then handed it to Biden. Would have been better for everyone if he'd stolen that document, too.

in 2020, arguing it limited Biden’s options for withdrawing American troops. Kirby also said the Trump administration provided little information or intelligence to the incoming Biden team about the Afghanistan situation.

Transitions matter – that’s the first lesson learned here. And the incoming administration wasn’t afforded much of one,” Kirby said.
And we all know how Trump handled transitions.

The summary ardently defends Biden’s decision to order a complete withdrawal, which he has justified as necessary to end the 20-year conflict in Afghanistan.

“There were no signs that more time, more funds, or more Americans at risk in Afghanistan would have yielded a fundamentally different trajectory,” the summary reads.

Much of the chaos surrounding the withdrawal involved attempts to withdraw Americans and Afghans who assisted the war effort, including translators. One of the most searing images from the time was of desperate Afghans clinging to an American plane as it took off, later falling to their deaths.

After the chaotic attempts to evacuate US citizens and those who assisted the American war effort, the administration said it now works to facilitate departures earlier in other situations.

“We now prioritize earlier evacuations when faced with a degrading security situation,” the summary states, using the war in Ukraine as an example of earlier evacuations.
Hmm. Why was the situation degrading, again? Oh, right, Trump locked the US into a contract in which he was handing Afghanistan to the Taliban terrorists. Understandably, some people took that poorly.

Similarly, the administration will work to more assertively communicate the risks of remaining in unsafe situations.

“In a destabilizing security environment, we now err on the side of aggressive communication about risks,” the summary reads.

Multiple federal agencies conducted reviews following the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. Their release was initially targeted to the one-year anniversary of the pullout, but were delayed as the agencies completed their work.

The after-action report was commissioned through the National Defense University, a defense official told CNN. The NDU is funded by the Defense Department, but officials have characterized the review the NDU carried out as “independent.”
President Biden following through, a bad ending to a worse ongoing situation, was not pretty, was not pleasant, and was not flawless. Nobody's defending that. Perhaps things would have been better if he'd had, you know, wiggle room to make a better situation or more time to work with the bad one. We'll never know. That choice was removed.

But it is good to see independent verification that he was put in a bad situation, and it could have gone worse.

At this point, I don't see any path toward a good Republican outcome in 2024. Granted, we are still 578 days away from the election but as of right now, Republicans are really fucking around and about to find out.

1-Clarence Thomas gift scandal at a time when the Democrats are already pissed off at the Supreme Court and their work on stripping rights from Americans.

To add onto this, they all thought Roe v Wade backlash would blow over but we showed them that's not the case with a Protasiewicz + 10 win in Wisconsin.

2-Calls from Republicans to start impeaching Democrats over nothing.

I don't really understand how they think this plays well. Here in Wisconsin, there is talk of potentially attempting to impeach a WI Supreme Court Justice who just won an election by +10. They just expelled two lawmakers in Tennessee. To what benefit do they gain other than to continue to piss off more people and attempt to disenfranchise voters?

3-Trump under indictment officially with potentially more on the way.

4-Ron DeSantis getting cucked by a Mouse.

This has been a VERY bad week for Republicans and I only see it getting worse. Biden/Harris back on the ticket in 2024 will do fine against the current set of challengers but boy, have I seen some Conservatives shaking in their boots should someone not named Biden run who has charm and appeal. I feel like if we had an Obama 2.0 right now running in 2024, the shellacking would give the surviving Republicans PTSD.

I will say, the fascism and the GOP is like history is trying to repeat itself.

Hitler was sentenced for high treason for his attempted coup in 1923. Almost 100 years later, and here we are in America, with Trump, and a potentially lingering indictment regarding, essentially, an attempted coup.

We've got the GOP gung-ho for Gays and Trans.

We've got them expelling Democrats where they can.

American government is much larger than Germany government, so the likelihood of history actually repeating itself is ridiculously small. It's just that the parallels are real interesting.

    I do, kind of.

The Republican message has classically been "Oh you see this good economy the Democrats gave us? That's a reason to lower taxes. Vote for me and we'll lower taxes." Which, of course, creates the cycle we've seen over and over. Trump may have spiked the punch bowl, but it's still red.

There are multiple ways for Biden and the Democrats to counter this, of course. Honestly, the tax cut for the rich is #1 on that list. Democrats can actually go after taxes. "Hey, the plan the Republicans voted on is going to expire in 2025," Democrats can honestly say, "because the US govt can only survive without the taxes from the rich and corporations for so long. We can fix it, by keeping things basically where they are for you, but removing the effect for the rich and corporations."

Republicans will shrill "they're raising taxes they're raising taxes" but, for once, they'll be on the wrong end of the equation.

Now I will not comment on the rest of your post because, quite frankly, I don't have anything to add. Everyone, including myself, had correctly called the 2024 fracture of the GOP, whether or not it's official with a third-party run or not no longer seems to matter. What I didn't see coming was the non-Trump leader, DeSantis, getting some massive self-owns and scaring off independents. A couple other people are running, 2024 is a while off, but right now, what we expected to happen is actually less damaging to the GOP than what is happening.

And, yes, as Jordan recently said, the Republican Party is trying to make Trump immune to all prosecutions from everywhere, because they say the prosecutions are political. That's yet another demonstrable step that the Party of Trump is taking towards dictatorial fascism.

Just because the enemy is faltering is no reason to relent. Biden, and Harris, should strive to get more large, public wins, while grass roots movements should continue to expose the Party of Trump terrorists wherever they're spotted. I wasn't around for WWII and have no interest in seeing the US remake it.

Just hopping back a moment (decided to post in this thread) but man, Republicans in Wisconsin are VERY butthurt over Kelly getting rofflstommed for the second time.

Their latest line of attack is claiming that "Democrats paid people $250 to vote for Janet".

What they're referring to is this: https://twitter.com/BehizyTweets/sta...50Pv2K08g&s=19

Basically, a PAC called Wisconsin Takes Action was paying people $250.

    For what, you might ask?

For people to spread the word of the upcoming election and help people get registered to vote.

What they're TRYING to claim is that "Democrats paid people $250 to vote which is illegal"

Now, I will admit, paying someone to vote is MOST DEFINITLY ILLEGAL but that's not what they were doing.

There is really no difference between the two scenarios:

Paying someone to sit on a phone and make phone calls and reminding them of the upcoming election and they should register to vote.

    (This is called phone banking)

Paying someone to sit on social media and reach out to friends/family to remind them of the upcoming election and they should register to vote.

I've spent more time than I care to explaining this and it's causing brains to melt.

Everyone is just so butthurt, including Kelly, who refused to resign "because their wasn't a worthy opponent to resign to."

It is illegal to pay someone for their vote. Or, to pay them to not vote.

If the Republican Party really meant what they were saying, they'd take the issue to court.

They haven't. They won't. The people spreading that disinformation are lying pussy cowards.

Yup, the law is very clear on that subject and if you have even 1 brain cell that can critically think, you'd look at what they're referencing and say, okay, they're not actually paying people for a vote. They're paying people to reach out to friends/family and help them get registered.

    Not illegal.

But hey, they need some copium. They just got their asses handed to them again and because, as mentioned, they cannot critically think, they've got no idea what they can do to actually win an election anymore.

Dianne Feinstein has missed 58 Senate votes in the last month because of illness/being 89 years old. Biden can't confirm any federal judges without all Dems present on the Judiciary Committee. She's given no indication of a return date.

I always talked shit about Grassley from Iowa and just all the ancient House and Senate members. Feinstein is a problem and has become so much a problem. There was the news article that when Fetterman and Feinstein were absent, it threw a wrench in judicial appoints and possible bills, I guess. I read a tweet that Schumer can reappoint her off Judiciary Committee. Idk why this has not happened. Well, I do know why, cause Dems always like the status quo.

Luckily nothing great, besides she is holding up many, many judges right now. If you read into it that Biden can add a big change to the Judiciary. I'm guessing her illness is dementia or likely full on dementia. Maybe she will die, but if she is out til her term is up next year this might hurt Dems, just cause she didn't want to retire and Dems didn't have the balls to primary her.

At least she's peacing the fuck out after this term, but she really needs to retire early and let the governor appoint a temporary replacement or something until there's a special election. I'm really non-plussed about this and have already voiced my extreme displeasure to her office, my Rep., and my state Democratic party.

I get it, they can't force her to resign, but this is pretty stupid. Assuming that the 58 missed votes is true, which I have no reason to disbelieve given her behavior as of late.

This is one of my biggest frustrations with the Democratic party. At the end of the day, it feels like either they're always missing a sense of urgency with anything they do or do not understand how critical certain things are to get done now.

The fact that Biden is going to be running for President again at a time of his life where he should be sitting back and enjoying retirement is alarming to me. It's not a matter of personal character, just the reality that as you age your body and mind deteriorate and you become more prone to illness. That's not something that should get a pass when the position is the President of the country.

Biden is the most safe, predictable candidate. There’s no other democrat candidate in the running who’s (relatively) young to take the reins that fits that same safe, predictable mold. Harris has not done anything outstanding as VP and she has the unfortunate baggage of being… a minority woman. It’s not fair, and it’s not something that should be held against anyone, but it’s the truth.

And in the face of trump or desantis, safe and predictable versus chaotic and outraging is a pretty good bet. It worked the first time.

Problem is that his party seems to have failed to produce a candidate from within the ranks that could capture a wide array of demographics. He was too old back in 2020 as well yet they failed to challenge his bid.

We don't need just term limits, we need age limits. Let's start with Federal Retirement age, how about that? If you're old enough to retire, you shouldn't be in politics. Sounds good to me!
