Cool? Than I am pleasantly surprised. Do I give you a medal? A ribbon? What do you want here? However this is a lot of talk. I can remember Trump promising a Border Wall "in Two weeks" among other things. What will this package be? Checks? Means tested deferred tax credits? Vouchers for about 50 individual Americans? Who knows. Sounds good, hopefully its what I'm imagining it should be. But you know, it leaves a lot to the imagination.
On MMO-C we learn that Anti-Fascism is locking arms with corporations, the State Department and agreeing with the CIA, But opposing the CIA and corporate America, and thinking Jews have a right to buy land and can expect tenants to pay rent THAT is ultra-Fash Nazism. Bellingcat is an MI6/CIA cut out. Clyburn Truther.
It's not going to be easy for Trump supporters to admit how wrong they were for five years. Making excuses and moving goalposts may be the most they ever do.
So unpacking Biden's Patriot Act 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Lets see, beyond the litany of redflags perhaps the most telling is "White House Office for fighting Ideological extremism", what the heck could that mean? That could mean I guess whatever you imagine it to mean. Given that while yes Obama was harassing Tea Party groups and the NRA, using the IRS, he was doing twice as much to Socialists and anything even connected to Occupy Wallstreet that couldn't get bought out or co-opted.
So, in keeping with America's preferred form of tyranny, in theory everything will be permitted, except for stuff that isn't and its on you to sues out what isn't allowed and watch your step because the punishments will be punitive, harsh and with no concept of proportionality.

Are you still pushing the lie that this is the new Patriot Act?
Dude, you support fucking apartheid and ethnic cleansing. Do you really think Biden is going to push anything more authoritarian that kicking out minorities, and supporting the oppression of an indigenous population? Watching you clutch at pearls, when you would simply prefer those people be put in concentration camps... seems rather disingenuous.

Maybe this, something from the early days of the Obama/Biden administration.

In some totally non-policy or serious stuff related fluff, I'm glad there's a pet back in the White House again. And he's apparently the first rescue dog to go to the White House so this is just a presidency with all kinds of firsts. And they're having a silly livestreamed "indoguration" to raise money for shelters.
This makes me happy.
MMO-Champ the place where calling out trolls get you into more trouble than trolling.
More things for Biden / Harris to deal with.

Title: Opinion: Households are plundering 401(k)s to survive the COVID-19 crisis
Excerpts:
Large numbers of American households were forced to plunder their retirement accounts to make ends meet during the last year, even as the federal government plunged trillions of extra taxpayers’ dollars into the economy to keep it afloat.
And that grim news is going to add to the looming retirement crisis already faced by tens of millions.
Some 31% of households said they withdrew money from their 401(k) or other retirement plans and 27% borrowed from the plans, according to a new survey conducted by financial magazine Kiplinger’s.
And the sums weren’t small, either. More than 80% of those borrowing money and of those making withdrawals took over more than $25,000, and about a third in each case took out more than $75,000.The main take away from the article is that things are not going that great for upper middle class Americans. The problem with many people that have a salary of $119k and higher seems to be: to keep their jobs, they have to live in an area that has VERY high housing prices.Kiplinger’s survey was oriented towards the wealthier end of the market to begin with. The median household income of those in the survey was $119,000, the magazine said. That’s way above the median overall U.S. household income, which according to the U.S. Census is just under $70,000 a year.
These statistics are quite grim. I hope there is something flawed with the survey. But right now my feeling is that this survey does a decent job of reflecting reality.
Meanwhile in other threads we have earnest discussion about actual political corruption and Theo is nowhere to be found. Racists not being concerned about justice is still a thing.
Meanwhile, the DOW picks up over 100 points.JOBS
New jobless claims spike: 965,000 Americans filed new claims for week ended Jan. 9
Claims reached five-month high; 789,000 was expected
Presumably, higher unemployment numbers = more stimulus, which is heavily weighted towards boosting the value of the stock market - stimulus "increases to 2k" = new stimulus of 1400, alongside with over 5 times as much money going to bolster up our corporations = higher stock prices.
Harrison is Biden's choice for DNC chair.
Once again, the Dems just cannot help themselves from giving consolation prizes to their losers.
- The cosplayers really hate the Dems for being the Party of Multiculturalism. Seeing women or minorities in positions of power makes them seethe more thana Ghostbusters reboot.
- Every four years, the South Carolina Primaries totally exposes that they do not understand the party or the electorate at all.
- Harrison is a pretty solid choice. Flipping the Carolinas for future races seems more probable than other options for expanding Democratic seats.
- Congress must follow through on establishing Voter Rights before 2022.
