Are there any addons that allow you to rebind that function?
In the auction house, before the revamp, you used to be able to left-click items to view them on your character. They should really bring that back (and add it to the boss tables and appearance tab) but I'll settle for being able to view them with a different button. I play with mouse-only, so it's... not really feasible for me to ctrl+click every item I want to see. Elbows are inefficient, I've found, lol.

Do you have a mouse with extra buttons? I think you could bind ctrl+mousebutton to another button with a logitech at least?
Not sure but it might lead you to something that works!
