What is the most disappointing TV show/Movie you have ever watched?

Basically let’s add every shitty idea into Star Treks best series mean while adding a lot of characters that make no sense, and are unimportant to anyone with good sense.

I mean I kind of hated Star Trek Discovery. But at least they did something different. So I tried to like this.

I subscribed to Paramount+ to watch Picard and the more I watched the worse it got. Episode 1,9, and 10 were the only episodes that in anyway mattered to the entire plot

It's hard to say it was disappointing because after watching the trailer and knowing who was involved in the production my hopes were dim. Never the less I tried and I got to episode 3. I put up with the evidently racist and bigoted xenophobes who now run the federation (although it made my blood boil). I put up with the admiral who told Picard to fuck off. I put up with Picard being interview Fox news. Episode 3 comes around and the show introduces us to a character whos evidently poor in a moneyless society and who vapes... yes.. in the 27th century... she vapes. I'm out. I'm done. It just smacked of committee thinking. How can we make this show as edgy as possible? we need somebody who vapes...

Imagine collecting JLA comics as a kid, action figures, watching the animated series, and animated movies, all while waiting for a live-action movie some day... and then you get that shit.

Usually shows with a strong first season, followed by disappointing second seasons.

Heroes comes to mind. Bloodline, Marco Polo (Netflix)

Movies tend to be largely disappointing to the point I barely watch them anymore.

I don't think a show has ever had a more stark quality shift from one season to another

They whent from a stelar first season adaptation that looked to easily become a classic....to...weirdly condensing like 7-8 arcs in one short run,molding events,cuting stuff that completly breaks the original material,they get from point A to point Z...like the other steps dont exist,and end it in a ...slideshow that makes zero sense unless you read the manga

I know many animes exist to promote the source material,but usualy those get altered in a way that it atleast makes sense...and they dont start by doing a perfect s1 adaptation

For movies, World War Z. For background, I read (and adored) the novel I thought it was going to be based on. A history and retrospective on how our collective arrogance failed against an unimaginable threat, the political and human cost of civilization failing, and the renewed sense of purpose for fighting back and rebuilding. It was supposed to be glorious.

Instead we got Brad Pitt phoning it in for 90 minutes against a backdrop of twitch zombies and people just acting incredibly stupid to create danger setups, concluding with one of the dumbest zombie movie resolutions imaginable ('vaccinating' yourself with deadly pathogens to make yourself invisible to sixth sense zombies). First movie I can ever remember leaving the theater and feeling mad.

It came out later that the script went through several rewrites before the action-thriller vomit we got ended up on the screens. Its very easy to tell that they didn't know how to adapt the novel and just abandoned everything except the pretense to make another loud, violent Hollywood drudge.

Interesting. I thought S2 was just as good as S1, and the 3rd is where they seemed to get a bit directionless (but it was still quite good).

Altered Carbon S1: what an amazing premise for a nearly never-ending sci fi flick, and the "reveal" in this was so bad that I never bothered with S2
The Undoing: Amazing acting, but a reveal that was just the equivalent of a fart in church. Mare of Easttown is somewhat guilty of the same sort of thing

I watched Cold Weather like ten years ago and no film has surpassed it in relationship to how bad it is. It's set in Portland, which is why I watched it (I live in Portland). Mere words cannot describe how terrible it is, but if I had to give two primary reasons it would be "a plot that goes nowhere" and "then it abruptly ends".

I almost recommend giving it a watch, just to see how bad it is....in some ways it is more watchable than The Room (which is simply laughably bad), in some ways it is far worse.

Some redeeming value might be had relationship to analyzing all the ways a movie can go wrong.

Way back in the day I was really excited to see a new movie.
I had pretty high expectations.
It was going to be bitchen'!
It was going to be cool!
It was destined to be the Citizen Kane of Werewolves Fightin' Vampires flicks!

It was Underworld.
Blargh.
Ok, I've probably seen worse movies. I've seen worse movies by Len Wisemen!
But it really does punch you in the face with its blandness.

Yes, very good. It might not be what you expect - it's written almost documentary style, but its done so in a way that it doesn't give you everything, but it gives you enough. Read it, pretend the movie doesn't exist and you're good to go.

For series, GoT S8 and nothing comes close. The previous two seasons had also been lackluster in their own ways but far from the absolute trainwreck that spared only a couple characters and either killed or, worse, completely ruined the rest. It makes the entire series worse by mere association.

For movies, Alien Covenant. I didn't actually have that high expectations after Prometheus, but I dared hope for a decent sci-fi flick, not an aberration choke full of characters that are each more moronic than the last, a villain that ceaselessly spouts 101 philosophy as is it were a true revelation, a plot that only works because literally everyone is an aforementioned idiot, and barely any actual alien at all. The cinematography was the only good thing about this, Ridley Scott knows how to shoot a movie, but he sure missed everything else about this one.

I haven't seen all of these, but I agree that WW1984 was bad...made worse due to all of the hype. So many things went wrong there, but mostly I was perplexed as to why they bothered to have the film set in the 80s when nothing about the 80s seemed relevant to the plot or any other meaningful aspect of the film.

Hereditary and Midsommar, though? For what reasons? I "enjoyed" both Midsommar and some aspects of Hereditary (as much as I can enjoy psychological horror...generally not a fan, better than regular horror though). Both are disturbing but I liked the cinematography/costume design in Midsommar especially.

I don't agree with you on the movie version of WWZ - I enjoyed it; as a standard zombie flick. I do agree it wasn't the book.

But to be honest - when I heard they were doing a movie of this book my first thought was "wait? How?" The book is a collection of interviews, news paper articles, etc. that describe what happened after the fact. You piecemeal the 'story of events' in the book through the various parts of the 'articles' as you read, but for 'movie adaptations' I was really wondering how the heck they were going to movie-fy it. As no, the way the book presents it, doesn't seem like that would be a blockbuster type of movie - but a mockumentary type movie. Mid-range budget at most needed. But that clearly wasn't what they (production company? director?) were wanting it to be.

So while I appreciated SOME of the 'events' you read about third-hand in the book they did try to recreate (or at least, recreate on what little detail the book gives on actual events) on the big screen in some way - I also didn't go in expecting a 'real' book adaptation. (The previews told me that lol). That book just isn't 'good' for that easy-tell 'story'.

I enjoyed the book. I enjoyed the movie. But as both stand-alones. Not in relation to each other.

And to keep on topic - *tries to come up with something besides Season 8 of GoT...*

Mmmm.. Last Episode of Quantum Leap. I still haven't forgiven the show for how they screwed over Sam Beckett. Just wrong.

Course, unlike GoT, I have watched tons of reruns of QL episodes. So not the same sort of disappointment LOL.

The first one, love it or hate it was still a film. If anything it had a small cult following, was edgy and shocked viewers with its premise.

Loki - starting from ep3. Althought first two ones were great and set expectations so high, next episodes just ruined whole concept. It just receded to another trending story about 'strong and independent woman', where Loki was left as silly guy running circles around and 'knowing nothing' aka Jon Snow. And mind you, show is still named 'Loki', not 'Sylvie'. But its essence has just gone.
