If you don't like raiding you don't like raiding. Thats fine. But that doesn't make raiding any less social. Maybe you need a raidgroup that is less competetive and more towards a good time. Mine is. We go into Mythic but never clear. That is ok for me.

I have a hell of a lot of fun raiding and the banter between progress boss fights is alway amazingly fun.

Raiding IS social. One of the most communication heavy parts of the game. If i have fun or you don't has no influence on it.

    What is STO?^^
Lol dude, you don’t have to hate raiding to think it isn’t as social as other aspects of the game. I loved raiding a lot, that doesn’t instantly mean it’s the most social aspect of the game.

Just picture yourself in a 40 man raid in classic or even a 25 man raid in tbc or wotlk and imagine the majority of interactions between everyone, even if you’re just messing around. And compare that to let’s say you joining a group of 5 random players in goldshire fight off another 5 random players ganking quest givers.

I guarantee you there is way way way way more social interaction with the random players locating and pvping with random gankers than there are people dropping bosses in raids.

And I’m not noob to this shit either I raided in every single possible raid setup there is, every possible guild you can think of, every possible loot rules, etc etc.

I love raids, but they are no where even remotely comparable to almost any other aspect of the game in terms of social interaction. ESPECIALLY when it comes to interacting with players you don’t normally interact with.

I'm with @VMSmith . The raiding experience is awful. Doesn't matter if it's WoW or GW2 or FFXIV or Warframe or whatever.

First, you have the chore of doing the same boss fight over, and over, and over again. For an arbitrary stat boost that becomes invalidated when the next raid tier releases. A boss fight loses its awe after you've done it half a dozen times, let alone hundreds.

Then you have the guild drama. You are asked to be good at two, competing things: be introverted and practice your music at home over and over again (or in this case, do thousands of hours of research and practicing your rotation), and then be extroverted and perform in front of a lot of people and be a charismatic personality. Most people can't be good at both. So most of the time you either get people who have spent a lot of time practicing and are good in isolation, but they're not good communicators, or you get people who are a delight to listen to but they're not very good raiders. Which leads to conflict. So you have people having meltdowns over Vent/Teamspeak/Discord. And that's not even getting into other things like greed over loot or relationships (you'd think people would have figured out by now to never allow girls into your raid team? They are almost always the source of drama) or the favoritism or the hatreds and the gossiping and so on. You log in to raid and be miserable for 3 hours over and over again... and then you realize that you're supposed to be playing this entertainment medium on your free time to have fun, but all you're doing is subjecting yourself to idiots over the internet who you loathe for an arbitrary stat increase that will be invalidated come the next raid tier anyway. Rarely you will get a merely pleasant group but you're still doing a repetitive, unfun grind.

Some news. Unfortunately, they did a reset of the entire project a while ago, so many years till we actually gonna see something. It also seems that this fairly recent Ghostcrawler departure wasn't due to him just being finished with the project, disagreements might have emerged. All in all, this didn't instil much confidence in me.

Sometimes, the light of the moon is a key to other spaces. I've found a place where, for a night or two, the streets curve in unfamiliar ways. If I walk here, I might find insight, or I might be touched by madness.

Its better then them releasing something that they thought would be trash and then everyone probably trashing it. I wanted this game to be pretty good, and maybe in X amount of years it comes up again, but odds are its toast. Shame.

Interesting they basically confirmed it was a WoW clone. Which honestly, I expected them to innovate more. But I guess that's why it makes sense Ghostcrawler was in charge of the project.

Ultimately for the best I guess, but hopefully they don't wait too long until interest in it is completely evaporated.

I read their statement and the irony smacked me in the face way too hard. I mean, some of the best received games of the last 12 months or so are BG3 (extremely similar to DOS2 from the same studio), Hellidaivers 2 (another lobby-based, always online shooter) and Palword (Pokemon). Never mind Elden Ring, the God of War series etc etc. Which one of these would cut it in terms of what Riot is now saying they want to make? None, but I am willing to bet my salary that if their game had the same quality as those games then they would be shipping it out tomorrow. So it's not about "being too similar to what's already there", but rather they simply fucked it up and they are trying to use the "innovation" card to excuse themselves.

Anyway, it's a real shame since this was literally the only new MMO I was looking forward to and I am not sure I will be looking for a new one (MMO) in 10 or whatever years they will release this, if they ever do and if it's still an MMO.

League players will be grandparents by the time this comes out in 2030.

Most League players are Zillennials, Zoomers, and Gen. Alpha.

It is WoW players that will be grandparents once the LoL MMO comes out.

Ghostcrawler already splurged some details ever since he left Riot. Essentially it came down to half & half - he wanted to work from home more, as he wanted to be with his family more. Riot, like many other big studios want to justify having offices without covid in the way, whatever their reasons (It's always money). The other half was how he essentially got robbed of his ability to do things. He hired others to help him but they ultimately took control far and away more than he wanted them to - and his higher ups clearly weren't happy in the end with how his team was taking the game. So having his thumb up his ass most days and wanting to be with his family, he left the company.

It's pretty obvious this is another OW2 Jeff-style leaving the company type of deals. Which is obviously not a good sign, even with them pivoting towards a new direction (OW2 did this and progressively did worse). That and putting the director of ME3 and Andromeda on an MMORPG of all things just screams incompetence and some weird inner turmoil that isn't being spoken about. Ghostcrawler is more open about the game industry than a lot of people but even he isn't stupid enough to burn bridges.

At this point the thread's title should be changed to "Riot Games is officially NOT working on an MMO".

Well except they ARE. That's... what their latest update was about. Literally to make sure we know that.

If anything, change it to "Riot is officially STILL working on an MMO".
