Doesn't work that way, I'm afraid. Renouncing citizenship is a formal process and requires more than just saying "I renounce my citizenship," to say nothing of a government agency simply inferring it.

Looks like Meadows is ducking the January 6th commission and may face contempt with Bannon.
Former Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows did not appear for a deposition on Friday in front of the House select committee investigating January 6, sources familiar with the investigation tell CNN, setting up a potential showdown that could lead to the panel beginning a criminal referral process against him.

Committee staffers had been prepared to go forward with the interview and waited in a room on Capitol Hill with a stenographer, but started to file out of the room nine minutes after the deadline passed.

The committee has not commented on whether Meadows was a no-show, and his attorney did not respond to a request for comment after the scheduled deposition.

Ahead of the scheduled deposition Friday morning, Meadows' attorney, George J. Terwilliger III, issued a statement saying his client would not cooperate with the committee until courts ruled on former President Donald Trump's claims of executive privilege, noting "a sharp legal dispute with the committee."

"The issues concern whether Mr. Meadows can be compelled to testify and whether, even if he could, that he could be forced to answer questions that involve privileged communications," Terwilliger said. "Legal disputes are appropriately resolved by courts. It would be irresponsible for Mr. Meadows to prematurely resolve that dispute by voluntarily waiving privileges that are at the heart of those legal issues."

Terwilliger added, "No matter how important the subject matter of the committee's work, decades of litigation over Executive Privilege shows how critically important it is for a president to have access to advice and counsel without fear that political opponents in Congress will later be able to pull away the shield of confidentiality that protects candor in those communications."

By officially setting a deadline that Meadows did not meet, the committee took an official step toward possibly referring Meadows to the Department of Justice for contempt of Congress.

Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat, scheduled the Friday deposition late Thursday evening in an effort to force Meadows' compliance.

"The Select Committee will view Mr. Meadows's failure to appear at the deposition, and to produce responsive documents or a privilege log indicating the specific basis for withholding any documents you believe are protected by privilege, as willful non-compliance," Thompson wrote on Thursday ahead of the scheduled deposition.

Thompson continued, "Such willful noncompliance with the subpoena would force the Select Committee to consider invoking the contempt of Congress procedures ... which could result in a referral from the House of Representatives to the Department of Justice for criminal charges — as well as the possibility of having a civil action to enforce the subpoena brought against Mr. Meadows in his personal capacity."

Earlier Thursday, White House Deputy Counsel Jonathan Su wrote to Meadows' attorney, informing him of Biden's decision and once again citing "the unique and extraordinary circumstances where Congress is investigating an effort to obstruct the lawful transfer of power under our Constitution."

Su noted to Terwilliger that Biden has already determined that executive privilege does not apply to particular subjects within the committee's purview, including "events within the White House on or about January 6, 2021; attempts to use the Department of Justice to advance a false narrative that the 2020 election was tainted by widespread fraud; and other efforts to alter election results or obstruct the transfer of power."

The Washington Post first reported Su's letter.

Meadows was subpoenaed in September, and since then the committee has indicated he's been "engaging" in negotiations over the terms of his turning over documents and appearing for a deposition.

But weeks after the committee granted Meadows a "short" but indefinite postponement of the initial subpoena deadline, members are growing increasingly frustrated and have been contemplating when and how to ramp up the pressure.

The committee is setting up to follow a similar path it pursued with Trump ally Steve Bannon. After making clear from the outset that he had no intention of cooperating with the panel, Bannon now faces possible prosecution for defying his subpoena.

On Tuesday, the committee also subpoenaed two former White House officials who worked closely with Meadows in an effort to learn more about his efforts to communicate with others relevant to the probe -- including election officials in Georgia, organizers of January 6 events and high-level officials at the Department of Justice.

'QAnon Shaman' Jacob Chansley sentenced to 41 months in prison for role in US Capitol riot
Jacob Chansley, the so-called "QAnon Shaman," was sentenced to 41 months in prison for his role in the US Capitol riot.

The Justice Department had asked for Chansley to receive a harsh sentence as a way to set an example among the January 6 rioters, and prosecutors have positioned Chansley as emblematic of a barbaric crowd.

Since then, Chansley gained fame as the "QAnon Shaman," a figure known in the fringe online movement and for widely shared photos that captured him wearing face paint and a headdress inside the Senate chamber.

Judge Royce Lamberth has had Chansley held in jail since his arrest, despite his multiple attempts to gain sympathy and his release.

Other judges are likely to look to Lamberth's sentence as a possible benchmark, since Chansley is one of the first felony defendants among more than 660 Capitol riot cases to receive a punishment.

Pictures of Chansley at the Capitol went viral because of a bizarre appearance while leading others through the Capitol, shouting into a bullhorn. As one of the first 30 rioters inside the building, he made his way to the Senate dais that was hastily vacated earlier by then-Vice President Mike Pence, and left a note, according to his plea documents.

Chansley also carried an American flag on a speared flagpole, which prosecutors have characterized as a weapon.

Lamberth asked only a few questions -- about Chansley's leaving a note for Pence and whether he knew of other threats to Pence's life coming from the crowd, and about his choices that day.

"He made himself the image of the riot, didn't he?" Lamberth said to Chansley's defense attorney. "For good or bad, he made himself the very image of this whole event."

Prosecutor Kimberly Paschall used several videos to show Chansley's entrance into the Capitol building and Senate chamber, yelling along with the crowd. "That is not peaceful." Paschall called his role in the mob "chaos" and "terrifying."

For more than 30 minutes, Chansley spoke to Lamberth about the impact jail has had on him, and the guilt he feels for breaking the law.
He said he was wrong to enter the Capitol on January 6, and that he is not an insurrectionist or domestic terrorist.

His sprawling speech held the attention of the judge, as Chansley quoted Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and "The Shawshank Redemption," and described wanting to live his life like Jesus Christ and Gandhi.

"The hardest part about this is to know that I'm to blame. To have to look in the mirror and know, you really messed up. Royally," Chansley said.
"I was in solitary confinement because of me. Because of my decision. I broke the law ... I should do what Gandhi would do and take responsibility," he says. "There's no ifs, ands or buts about it, that's what men of honor do." He promised to never have to be jailed again.

"I think your remarks are the most remarkable I've heard in 34 years," Lamberth told Chansley, calling his speech "akin to the kind of thing Martin Luther King would have said."

But, Lamberth added, "what you did here was as horrific as you now concede," and he could not justify a shorter sentence.

After the riot and his arrest, Chansley asked then-President Donald Trump for a pardon. He also went on a hunger strike in an attempt to get organic food while in custody and spoke to "60 Minutes" from jail without permission. In September, Chansley pleaded to a felony charge of obstructing Congress' certification of the 2020 vote.

Seems a bit harsh on the Q shaman. He is basically an idiot. He was obviously the most visible one afterwards. Given his history of turning up to events shouting about Hilary eating children but being completely nonviolent. (didnt take a weapon either). But on the flipside if this is the low sentence I hope the actual organizers, influencers and people who did violence/planned violence before hand/turned up with guns/stole and damaged stuff get alot more time.

The other sentences so far have not been trying to get the maximum sentence (which is bullshit tbh). Just doing it for the photo dude and not the actual bastards is a bit limp wristed.

Dangerous idiots committing crimes get to serve the same sentences as anyone else. He's not insane in any sense that would be exculpatory, he's just a criminally-minded stupid asshole and he deserves this and more.

He's lucky they're apparently not going to try applying the felony murder rule to all participants of the Jan 6 insurrection. Since that would potentially make them all criminally liable for murder, just for being there. As in, "you entered the Capitol unlawfully on January 6? Summary conviction for murder" sense. That's literally all they'd need to prove, once they establish any of the fatalities there as "murder".

If it were up to me, every single participant in the riot would be sent to Guantanamo Bay and never see the outside of a prison cell again.

Well, this is just another in her list of delusions. Like saying that Trump wasn't racist, or that there wasn't racism in this country til Trump, even though she won a court case with the help of the NAACP because someone in here school was racist against her, or that Australia needs to be freed because of mask mandates or that they can't have guns, even though they do have them. Its not surprising she is fucking ignorant.

It's no surprise she doesn't make sense, because she doesn't believe the nonsense she's peddling.

She's being paid a lot of money to LARP as a black conservative and I'm sure she doesn't believe a word of the shit she comes out with, because it's diametrically opposed to the opinions she espoused before she became a paid mouthpiece.

He remit is basically to turn up and sound conservative. Actually making sense doesn't factor into it.

Kimberly Guilfoyle, a top fundraiser for former President Donald Trump and the girlfriend of his son Donald Trump Jr., boasted to a GOP operative that she had raised $3 million for the rally that helped fuel the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

In a series of text messages sent on Jan. 4 to Katrina Pierson, the White House liaison to the event, Guilfoyle detailed her fundraising efforts and supported a push to get far-right speakers on the stage alongside Trump for the rally, which sought to overturn the election of President Joe Biden.

Guilfoyle’s texts, reviewed by ProPublica, represent the strongest indication yet that members of the Trump family circle were directly involved in the financing and organization of the rally. The attack on the Capitol that followed it left five dead and scores injured.
Donnie Jr. should find a new girlfriend.

The best doesn't actually appear to be, yet to come.

Organizers of the "Stop the Steal" rally that preceded the deadly Capitol attack on Jan. 6 allegedly communicated with members of former President Trump's family and administration, according to Rolling Stone magazine.

Multiple sources told Rolling Stone that Kylie Kremer, an organizer for the rally that took place at D.C.'s Ellipse park, had an aide buy three burner phones a few days before Jan. 6. Kremer said that it was "of the utmost importance" that the phones be purchased with cash, one source, who was a member of the March for Trump team, told the magazine.

Kremer kept one of the phones herself, while another was reportedly given to her mother, Amy Kremer, who was also an organizer of the rally. Sources could not say who the third was given to.

According to Rolling Stone, the phones were used to communicate with high-ranking members of Trump's inner circle, including his son Eric Trump, daughter-in-law and former campaign official Lara Trump, former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and former Trump surrogate Katrina Pierson.

Speaking of when Kylie Kremer bought the phones, the March for Trump member said, “That was when the planning for the event on the Ellipse was happening, she needed burner phones in order to communicate with high-level people is how she put it."

When reached for comment by The Hill, representatives for Donald Trump, Eric Trump and Kim Kremer did not immediately respond to the Rolling Stone article.
Eyo, why are organizers of the insurrection using burner phones like criminals do? Why are they apparently using them to communicate with members of the Trump family...also like criminals do with their bosses.

Is “fake news” all the defense for the January 6th insurrection attempt you can muster up?

If there is no evidence there is no insurrection. It has been nearly over a year now and this is showing very little promise. Perhaps the democrats should spent their last few months that they have the majority in the senate and house productively instead of this waste of time.
