Oh I love this one! Because a Trump supporting insurrectionist didn't blow a Capitol police officers brains out on the steps of the building they bear no responsibility for the multiple officers who committed suicide following the traumatic events of the day - events which even officers who have served in the military and seen combat said was some of the most brutal and violent fighting they've ever seen - toes don't count.

And I guess Brian Sicknick, who was assaulted and sprayed with mace and later suffered multiple strokes and died, doesn't count either. He was totes gonna suffer those strokes no matter what, even if he wasn't assaulted by violent insurrectionists.

"But there aren't charges!" I hear shouted from the peanut gallery.

Yeah, because that's an impossible charge to prove, even if the connected dots are lit up like broadway.

Where did I say the rioters hold no responsibility? You were quoting a post of a dig at Republicans for not honoring the sacrifices of the Capitol police that day. What sacrifices? I mean I suppose the trauma of shooting an unarmed woman in the face could be considered a sacrifice.

Who do we tend to blame in the Boston massacre? Or the Kent state massacre. Pretty sure they were being belligerent or why fire? You have the gun, you pull the trigger, you take the blame, even if the law decides it’s self-defense after the fact.

I dunno, being dragged down the steps and beaten with American flag poles is a bit of a sacrifice, no? Do those that committed suicide not count, either?

I'm throwing shade at Republicans because they whipped their base up into a frenzy and sent them to the Capitol to attack it, and a great many of them are still lying about it to try to blame the attack on Democrats and claiming that their party bears no responsibility.

Thanks for once again proving that "back the blue" was always just an act.

So she deserved to die. Got it.

I suppose the 60-70 secret service officers similarly injured the previous summer at the White House doesn’t register? You know the one, where rioters set fire to a guard hut and tried to set fire to the church across the street. You know the one. Trump’s photo op with the Bible?

Here’s an idea maybe the Capitol rioters shouldn’t have assaulted police AND said police shouldn’t have summarily executed someone. I know, I know, you appreciate that I understand context and nuance, no need to applaud.

But I wonder if apparent support of state violence against citizens, even unruly citizens, might have a word to describe it. I know I’ve heard it somewhere, it gets thrown around a lot on this forum… ah well I’ll remember it later.

She was breaking into a federal building with a group that had no right to be there in an express attempt to overthrow a legitimate election by means of violent force.

Every insurrectionist should count themselves lucky they didn't share her fate.

"Just obey orders!" They screech at those who find themselves on the wrongful end of police violence, then suddenly when one of theirs disobeys police orders and gets shot they mald and seethe about it. Hilarious bonus points for then acting like they ever actually cared about police violence in the first place.

Who exactly is ‘they’? You’re just straw-manning my positions. You’re welcome to look through posts to find where I’ve ever said people should just follow police instructions. I’ll wait.

Well, clearly, their feelings that the election was stolen should supersede law and punishment, right?

And they weren't actually going to be violent; chants of "hang mike pence!" while destroying federal property and raiding offices, it's just a figure of speech!

You, personally? I think you've been honestly consistent. My general snark is more towards the greater conservative sphere and I dishonestly caught you up in it while venting my utter frustration with the naked hypocrisy of others who spent all last summer downplaying police violence suddenly caring about police violence.

To actually address your points, though, rather than just be passive-aggressive: I think Babbit's death at the hand of security personal at the Capital building was tragic, as is just about any loss of life, but I find it hard to sympathize when the cause was the direct overthrowing of a legal election and it happened in the course of her and the mob she surrounded herself with attempting to break into a window of the capital building. It was justified for the same reason a property owner is legally allowed to defend their property from violent invaders.

More to the exact point; there's a significant divide between someone "deserving death", and someone's death being "justified".

If they "deserve death", then they should be summarily killed, absent context. That's what you're saying; that they should be approached in their sleep and their life ended as efficiently as possible. Obviously, nobody is arguing this.

And then there's deaths that are justified. And yes; shooting a hostile insurrectionist who's at the vanguard of the group trying to break into the House chambers where members are still evacuating, when that group is chanting their intent to murder those members, that's entirely justifiable.

The insurrectionists were given multiple opportunities to turn aside, and had already expressed their violent intent openly and loudly, and with action not just speech.

She wasn't executed, they were protecting the people they were hired to protect... from a crowd who had every intention of murdering them.

We'll put it a simple way. If a large crowd of people who were trying to kill your family were climbing through the window, would you shoot at them? Mind you, this same crowd had already crashed a car through your front gate, and hurt several other friends of yours.

    Trumpsters will justify almost anything.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas Wife supported the Capitol Riots, yet even more proof the Democrats need to pass term limits for the Compromised Trumpist Supreme Court Justices.

You’re the one that says police should be held to a higher standard. That if there is any question they should be dismissed. I appreciate the greater context, but the ONLY people who died that day were rioters and somehow we’re to mourn the killers on the anniversary? I don’t get it.

Yes, because they were the ones attacked.
