So, I have been on the wrong side of tiktok lately, a bunch of morons are claiming that these out of context slow clips mean that none of the violence happened that day. They are calling for the "patriots" in prison be released, and that the J6 committee should be in prison now. Literally every moron I have been seeing, has been saying video doesn't lie but yet, they were shown out of context videos but they got to see what they wanted to see. That they were supposedly let in and that people were just randomly roaming the halls.

They should air their grievances by marching on the capitol.

Tucker’s doing a great job showing what really happened.

Not content with sitting on his laurels he just released a video showing what happened in Dallas 1963.

I love that one of their biggest "gets" is that "Josh Hawley wasn't alone in running for his life."

like...yeah, we all know this. Literally everyone paying attention knows this. This is the kind of rank dishonesty that infuriates me so much with Republicans. That clip was never to imply that Hawley was the only Senator or member of Congress to flee for their fucking lives, we'd already seen clips of Mit Romney doing so after a warning from one of the Capitol police officers. It was to highlight that one of the very members of Congress that was earlier whipping that mob into a frenzy was fleeing from his own mob.

I'm at least glad that Senate Republicans are largely not tolerating that bullshit, though a few like Scott, Cruz, and Rubio sure seem to be taking it silently.

Don't question the doubleplus good, just accept that it was a peaceful day where there were only a few bad apples but every member of Congress was running for their lives anyways.

It was actually cardio day, they were having senior citizens running down the halls in heels and suits. For their health.

During a broadcast on Wednesday, Tucker Carlson blasted his bipartisan critics in Congress as “sociopaths” and accused attorney general Merrick Garland of lying about the number of police officers killed during the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

It’s the latest headline-grabbing moment after the Fox News host caused a controversy throughout the week by airing selectively chosen clips to claim falsely that the riots at the Capitol in 2021 weren’t violent.

“The sociopaths turned out to be both Democrats and Republicans,” Mr Carlson said, hammering GOP leaders like senators Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham as “weak men” for their criticisms of the January 6 video segments.

Legislators from both parties have accused Mr Carlson of distorting the facts about January 6 in recent episodes.

Senator Mitt Romney of Utah, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee and former Massachusetts governor, said this week that the American people “saw what happened on January 6”.

“They’ve seen the people that got injured, they saw the damage to the building. You can’t hide the truth by selectively picking a few minutes out of tapes and saying this is what went on. It’s so absurd. It’s nonsense,” he added.

Elsewhere in his monologue on Wednesday, Mr Carlson accused Democratic officials including Attorney General Garland of lying about January 6 because of their statements that five Washington DC and Capitol officers died because of the riots.

“Joe Biden’s attorney general is a liar,” Mr Carlson said, adding, “They don’t want any detail. They just want a slogan. The’yre counting Brian Sicknick. That’s a lie.”
Tucker seems to have a very adult and reasonable response to the bipartisan criticism of his propaganda attempt.

I used to think McConnell was the worst human alive, but Tucker is winning this one handily.

I wonder how long before the next of kin of Officer Sicknick sue him.

But of course, it's not just Carlson. Axios lays out the evidence that focusing on how Jan 6th was such a good and patriotic movement is a mainstream Republican belief.

Some Republican lawmakers are bristling at the idea of spending another two years talking about Jan. 6 — viewing the renewed focus as part of a self-destructive streak undermining their agenda for the new majority.

Each time Democrats or the press appear ready to move on, the insurrection is dragged back to center stage by the GOP's most influential voices.

House Democrats used their majority to ensure the roots, violence and consequences of Jan. 6 received maximum attention through carefully choreographed prime-time hearings.

When Republicans won power in the midterms, they earned the right to set the agenda and divert attention away from what polls have shown is a serious political vulnerability.

Instead — due in large part to the empowerment of the far-right — Republicans have helped ensure wall-to-wall coverage of the 2021 Capitol attack is again blanketing cable news.

One day after Fox News host Tucker Carlson's presentation of unreleased Jan. 6 footage drew bipartisan outrage, the House Administration's subcommittee on oversight launched a new investigation into the work of the Jan. 6 committee.

News also broke Wednesday that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene
    *ahem*

    Speaker Marjorie Taylor Green.

will be leading colleagues in a visit to Jan. 6 riot defendants in the D.C. jail, where she has claimed the conditions amount to "civil rights abuses."

"There are some members of Congress that are planning a visit to the jail, and we're working with them on writing a letter requesting a day to go and take a tour," Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) told Axios.

"It is a distraction," one House Republican told Axios, saying there is a "high level of frustration with rank-and-file members" about the focus on relitigating Jan. 6.

"I think the Republican base loves to hear about Jan. 6, but this is not a winning issue with swing voters," they added.
That's admission. He admitted the Republican base loves to hear about Jan 6th.

"For it to be released to a very specific conservative entertainer with a large conservative audience," Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) told Axios, "it sort of just relitigates something that should be further in our rearview mirror rather than at the forefront."

"I'm ready to move on," Cramer said, "And, frankly, I wish they all would move on. You guys [in the press] can't even move on when they put the video on Tucker Carlson."

"It's in the past. We should be talking about the future. It's a mystery to me as to why people want to continue to obsess about that," said Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-S.D.).
I totally get Thune's opinion. If my party's leader and my party's base engaged in such a giant act of terrorism that caught the world's attention. I'd want to sweep that under the rug, too. Too fucking bad. "I want to look forward" doesn't work in, say, your credit card bill or court trials.

Even as they stood by McCarthy's decision and said they support releasing the tapes
Which is, of course, bringing Jan 6th to the forefront again.

some House Republicans hinted that they are less than satisfied with the idea of having to grapple with the Jan. 6 discourse once again.
Then maybe you shouldn't have sided with the guy who released the tapes?

McConnell spoke out against...well not the release of the tapes, the way it was portrayed, but not the release itself. And Trump has recently, publicly, insisted that he still won the election.

Justifying and normalizing the Jan 6th riot is a mainstream Republican viewpoint.

    @Breccia

Question, what's stopping Biden or the DoJ from releasing the same videos to actual news journalists to have them show the whole thing? I mean McCarthy released the stuff already so they can't claim it political (Well they can but not in any way that matters) if they release it to actual journalists and news agencies instead of commentators and proven liars.

I mean, can't they just take the footage, then combine it with Rupert Murdock's own testimony and Tucker and the gangs own recordings and false covering of the events and then put it on blast for months longer showing what they are and have been doing? Heck, the video's they shared during the previous hearings destroy Tuckers version already but his viewers never saw them most likely. So to put them on blast AGAIN on every major network along with his own recordings proving he was a liar and disloyal to Trump as well. That would be a pretty good way to handle it you would think?

    Morals, ethics, standards, and timing.

Releasing evidence of crimes to the general population isn't always a good idea. And there's no reason to hand anything remotely like an appeal, mistrial, or retrial to these terrorists.

The videos in question might also show security issues within the building, which is why the Capitol Police were supposed to look at it first. True, McCarthy didn't care, but that doesn't make it the right move.

And also, showing the most violent, chaotic, murderous parts of the footage -- the parts that Carlson is pretending don't exist -- right about the time Trump has taken the GOP field down to him and DeSantis will drive what few classic conservatives to DeSantis and independents to Biden in droves. EDIT: Which in turn will drive Trump, suddenly losing the two-person race, to a third party, splitting the vote and fracturing the 2024 field. That's next year, not this year.

The part with that is they wouldn't be turning over anything that McCarthy hadn't already turned over to someone even less honest and trustworthy. We can have those important ones redacted for that release if need be but the fact is that Tucker could give it all out if he wanted already.

And to release it now after McCarthy just released it and Tucker lied about it would be the most proper time. Waiting till near an election though could be seen as playing politics though. The better option would be to go "You want to lie about what is on here, let some real journalists talk about the footage and show the parts you pretend don't exist".

Then when the GOP cry politics just point to McCarthy and Carlson and point out that you only released it to the journalist after McCarthy had already released that exact same information to an entertainer who's own employer admitted is a liar and who's own recent recordings in court prove is a liar who then lied about the content on it which forced the need to set the facts straight.

Releasing it now would kill any chances of them crying politics while still forcing them to admit the facts they don't like when it comes to Carlson, heck, might even help Dominion's case against Fox given the added lying and misrepresentation of the facts Fox will have been confirmed to still actively be doing while in a case over doing just that.

"Crying politics" would have no effect in this case. The only people who would believe them are voting for Trump anyhow.

Exactly, so them crying politics now would be pointless and ultimately backfire while if they waited till well afterwards they might actually get a little merit from the timing.

Releasing it to actual news agencies wouldn't be any more of a security issue at this point given who already has the whole deal already. So giving it to them would allow them to refresh the memories of what actually happened in the public's eye while showing Tucker for what he is again.

Also, while kicking dirt in Carlson's face it could also be used by Dominion to prove in their active trial who Fox CONTINUES to lie about the previous election even as they have a court case over lying about the election. By literally lying about the consequences of their last lie on their own network.

To have the judges force Fox to admit they lied about both Dominion and January 6th which Fox themselves encouraged with their lies about Dominion. That would be a hell of a pill to force them to swallow and might cost Carlson far more than he is bargaining for when Fox is looking for an employee to take it out on. Also, forcing Fox to scale back their lies and manipulations if they survive.

    Edit: Off to bed, later.

I know I don't post much recently but still lurch around reading when I can. So thanks for keeping this stuff up to date.

Two years ago, a mob of rioters who believed former President Donald Trump's lies about the 2020 election viciously assaulted police, smashed out windows, stormed into an office, flipped over a giant conference table and barricaded themselves inside the U.S. Capitol, readying themselves for a fight with police inside a suite of "hideaway" offices for U.S. senators.

One of the offices, federal prosecutors recently disclosed, belonged to Republican Jim Risch, the 79-year-old junior senator from Idaho, where Trump is tremendously popular.

Video shows a rioter — who has pleaded guilty to driving a stun gun into a police officer's neck, nearly killing him — smashing out Risch's window overlooking the Washington Monument and the national mall in an attempt to let more rioters into the building. Additional video released this week shows Risch's trashed desk, including what looks like a framed campaign image bearing his last name.

A review of Risch's public statements on the Jan. 6, 2021, riot show no indication that he has ever mentioned what happened to his office that day. Asked by NBC News this week about his office being trashed and told about the new footage of rioters in his hideaway, Risch demurred.

“I don't do interviews on Jan. 6, but thanks," Risch said.

Asked again if he had a response to the newly released footage, the senator said only: “Thanks for asking.”

His office didn’t respond to follow-up emails seeking comment on his hideaway office being raided by pro-Trump rioters.

On the evening of Jan. 6, after the rioters were cleared out of the Capitol, Risch voted to certify President Joe Biden’s victory and condemned the attack as “unpatriotic and un-American in the extreme.”

He added in a statement that evening: “We are grateful to the law enforcement officers that placed themselves in harm’s way and kept those working at the Capitol safe today. I was proud to join my colleagues and reconvene at the Capitol tonight to prove that mob rule never prevails.”
Why doesn't Senator Jim Risch, R. ID, want to talk about the insurrectionists and rioters that ransacked his office? Maybe he actually liked it? Either way, there's also this gem from one of the insurrectionists -

In his admitted statement of offense, Rodriguez said that he had used several objects to try to smash Risch's window before telling other rioters that he had used a stun gun on Fanone's neck.

"Omg I did so much f---ing s--- rn and got away tell you later," Rodriguez wrote in a Patriots 45 MAGA Gang Telegram group after leaving Risch's office. "Tazzed the f--- out of the blue."
