I vote for The Trumplican Insurrection
“Leadership: Whatever happens, you’re responsible. If it doesn’t happen, you’re responsible.” -- Donald J. Trump, 2013

"I don't take responsibility at all."

    Trump insurrection...just as well.

If anyone thinks you need to organize something that might be deemed at best "legally dubious," where it can viewed oh-so-publicly, then you're doing it wrong.

Eh, those people were proud of it. Some even treated it like a vacation and thought they were on tour or something.

It wasn't some random government building out in the sticks that got attacked, but the very centre of power of the federal government of the US.
It'll only be significant if, like 9/11 the reaction is "Lets just do a War on Terror, but here in the United States!"

If then, than sure, it'll be a big ass deal in the grand scheme of things.

Well, doing things wrong and being stupid do tend to go hand-to-hand.
Pretty sure most here know how to communicate online without leaving much of a trace.

Now you want to deflect to 9/11 to try and minimize the failures of Trump?

At this point, your entire account must be satire. The irony of someone who literally supports ethnic cleansing and apartheid... pretending to give a shit about authoritarian government.

This is a poster saying that people are at fault for being the victims of terrorism, because they are not white.

Domestic terror attack, and a massive intelligence and security failure by Homeland Security, Capital Police, Secret Service, etc.

And exactly how close was that?

You know a bunch of fuckwits in a government building don't start to get making rules because they let themselves in right?

Dialing up the hysteria really does not make this some kind of existential threat.

Reputational damage? Sure. Close to having an illegitmate government? Oh please.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

about a week ago there was that letter from the military lads saying 'the military will not be involved in a coup' 7 formers right?
all you have to do for a coup is get the military to take a side (yours). you occupy the state buildings and make them choose.
Lets not pretend this was a larp, you are ignoring all of the surrounding circumstances, the stated goals of the president and insurrectionists.

just because its a failed coup doesnt make it not a coup.

As I said before, this was the American equivalent of the Beer Hall Putsch, and it failed for the same reasons. Back then people made the same mistake, mocking the failed attempt and not taking the threat seriously, until a few years later when the Reichstag was already on fire. Now it's up to us to take the threat seriously and make sure we aren't getting a "Capitol on fire".

Again, how are these guys going to conduct a coup by invading the capitol building? Their movement has been thoroughly rebuked by all your institutions from the get go. They have a looooong way to go before they are a threat to your actual democracy and not just making themselves look like clowns.

    Fail coup? sure.

My cat also failed to reach the moon when he was jumping for the tree ornaments this christmas. Failed moon landing.

Hysteria hysteria hysteria. I am not saying this is not serious at all. But if you really think that you have somehow come close to losing your democracy I have a hard time taking that seriously. Want to know what that actually looks like? In my country, there is a near zero chance this current president who has literally been raping the country for 5 years will lose his lection this year after stealing from education funds, defending his health minister who stole 30 million $ of international covid aid by conducting an anti corruption investigation that turned up nothing, not even the hotel he is currently building outside of my town lol. Zero personal wealth to multi millionaire during his presidency. Setting up toll roads that have since been co opted to some "cholera outbreak fund" so they can fight what is a perpetual issue and excuse themselves from ever maintaining the roads. Yep, there is a litany of things that are actually corrupt that just goes on and on and on and on. Even the last election was paused when the counting had him behind, then he got a second wind when counting resumed hours later. This is what corruption looks like. Oh yes, he is also a convicted criminal - crime was embezzlement lol.

I can also be deported for getting involved in politics so you can do your own homework.

I do see something tremendously bothersome happening here. In Africa there are going to be plenty of governments that are going to say "see they are just like us" to excuse their behaviour in the wake of this, for another perspective. But I also see your democracy being upheld and I don't think a reassurance from the military that they will not be used as a political tool is evidence of anything more other than Trump is now completely off the wagon and he is likely to do almost anything to try and hang on. I want to tell myself that he is doing this as a show for the faithful so he can say "see, I tried my best" but it really has crossed that line since at least November. Apart from the crazies and his 14 or so senators I do not see much complicity. He would have to overpower all those institutions(which include the military, apparently) to become the president again. The clown brigade in the capitol building ain't gonna do it mate. Hell Trump cannot even explicitly own what happened there.

I get that this is all super exciting and whatnot but you are just witnessing the worlds biggest and worst loser clawing at the doorframe on his way out, not the end of times. He is emphatically getting thrown out on his ass by your democracy not "coming close to ending it".

That's not actually that difficult, take over a building, and start killing members of the branch that you don't like, so your guy can hold onto power.

Make no mistake, they were literally trying to do that. If they had gotten ahold of Pence, Pelosi, or any number of others... what would have happened to them?

    Be honest.

They had no real organization or even the strength a real coup would require.

If the military has such a neutral response then you need to start worrying. Coup or not it doesnt matter. This will likely occur more often.

So its not an attempted coup? Trump wanted to liquidate the legislative branch while congressional Republicans hoped they wouldn't be targeted by the cult.

It's too early to say how the event will be told since we don't know. They got into the capitol building way too easy, until we know how that happened how are we supposed to know how it will be told?

I don’t care for either title.

Calling it the Republicans insurrection puts this in the category of partisan politics. This was way beyond this. It needs to be treated on a different level. Patriots versus lunatics if you will.

Calling it the Trump Insurrection allows people to latch on to the Trump name. No such thing as bad publicity and all that. Do as much as possible to get Trump out of the picture unless it is in a courtroom. This would take the media ignoring him, which I know is tough for website hits.

For naming this, Need to find a balance of how incompetent it was with how fringe these people are. You don’t want to elevate this to where others use putting down protests as “stopping a coup”. Ya’ll Qaeda Crackdown? Something that infers we’ve had enough of these idiots.

I believe the best thing the Democrats can do about this is go after these people hard, and not bring up the GOP ever. Let the GOP associate themselves with these people while the Dems focus on crimes. Primary any Democrat that steps out of line on this: it’s a criminal investigation, that won’t stop at party lines. Its not about going after the GOP or destroying the GOP, that seems to be happening just fine on its own. Don’t bring up any republican name on this unless they insert themselves into it (aka Cruz).

This cannot turn into another round of the political back and forth of this country.
