If WoW had a follower system, which leader/character would you pick?

If wow developed a serious follower/companion system (think current follower or SwToR's companion system - but better) and you could choose one. Who would be your choice??

You can choose from any active character available, i.e. anyone that's not deceased, at the highest rank or racial leaders and famous legendary heroes

    Thrall
    Grommash
    Baine
    Mayla
    Sylvannas
    Lor'themar
    Mayla
    Alleria
    Anduin
    Malfurion
    Tyrande

    Valeera
    Valtrois
    Farondis
    Genn
    Matthias Shaw

Basically, any famous character you can think of

Don't get too bugged down on how it would work or even whether it would work in wow or should obviously the devs would decide how this system would work, maybe you could have ranks of followers , with a racial leader being Rank 5, which ones you reach you can select one to be your followers, each comes with their abilities you can sort of trigger like you would a pet, although they have some AI which allows them to use special abilities.

Let's just imagine you can, who'd you like to have around as your companion?

Bwonsamdi, because he's one of the most interesting troll characters

Also, if you can 'romance' him, even better

    Another day, another Deal....

    None of those.

If WoW were to have a follower/bodyguard system, it should be soldiers/champions of X faction (perhaps X faction of your choice (i.e. Night Elves, Goblins, Forsaken, Human etc..)).
Stuff can be fixed, just get enough glue or duct tape!

Not sure how the system would work, whether it would be faction restrictive, or some new situation where well known heroes can help anyone because are fighting towards a common enemy.

But the idea is to have a cool hero by your side that journeys around with you, like we had in legion, but just better. What capacity they are with you is lore dependent, each will have a story,, some look up to you and follow you like a teacher, some will act as your guardian, some your friend or colleague considering you a valuable equal, others would be like a mentor to you, , offering to train you and counsel you on your journey, others may not be that friendly, only with you because your goals align and it's better you work together - etc, creative can get creative.

But you have a choice of many characters, famous or not. Think Heroes of the Storm type roster of characters. Now you can customise your follower/bodyguard/companion's gear et and they bring their own flavour with their abilities..

ooo..just thought of something else that might be interesting, what if you could temporarily switch to control them in combat, while your toon acts as a pet? Having specialised pet bars you can customise which of your toon's abilities would be useable when your toon is in pet mode when you are controlling your companion so to speak (even though that sort of breaks the fantasy s o probably not a good idea).

Your followers have different types, and different roles. Some you can have a measure of control over their abilities, like you do over a pet, others you have no say. Like in Legion where some active bodyguards were actually just an extra powerful ability that would cause them to momentarily appear.

I digress, breaking my own rule about talking on how the system would work, it's more about who'd you fancy to be your follower.

For me, I think I'd have Alleria with me, either her or Malfurion. Wouldn't mind Tyrande too or Prince Farondis.

Many times in wow we have NPCs following us doing things with us, but never on long term basis.. if you could choose one which would it be

Oh, I understand your system idea. I'm just not a fan of having big named characters follow the player around like a companion. I was sadly not a fan of having big names following us in Legion. I'd rather have a selection of randomly generated setups to select from as a follower/bodyguard. Giving us a selection of Tank, DPS, or Healer that you can hire (Like in Diablo)

Well the madraxxus covenant gives you that pretty much, I have a big abomination that follows me around all the time.

and that is what i would want from your follower system as well, Just more undead minions.

No one famous, just one of those monkeys that tell me to ook 'em in the dooker whenever I go into battle.

    Definitely Alleria.

But I wouldn't want to romance her, because that feels wrong, especially since she's married.
Some will tell you that the Light is the only path. The only weapon that can stop the enemies of Azeroth. But we see alternatives. Many roads, many possibilities, that are open to us. There will be those who doubt you. Who question your resolve, your ability to harness powers that have caused the downfall of weaker wills. Together, we will prove them wrong.

Haha Thrasgar I agree with you! I would love to have the monkey King commenting my action, we would best buddy in the world

I would personally be more interested in new characters that we get to learn about while adventuring with them. In SWTOR, we don't have Revan, Valkorian or Malgus, right? We have original characters designed to be companions.
Check out the Drakonaar, my playable race concept! (WIP -- Looking for artists)

Wow's too popular to have a follower system like swtor, but if they did, it would be like @Sagenod said. It should be new characters that you can get to know and develop, they could have some not quite so famous lesser known characters join the fray like we did in Legion.

Legion was a sample of that system, done in a wow way . If they ever did a race based expansion, they could do something like that a bit more expanded. I once expnaed on a capital building system that could span multiple expansions, becuase it wouldn't be based on character power.. however it could determine and influence things like a folower system, professions, as well as some none combat related racial abilities and features as well as cosmetics.

Because it wasn't power based it could last through several expansions, encouraging long term and continuous sub play, while expanding and doubling down on the race fantasy - giving a purpose for capital cities and a reason why they would be bigger and grow.

Showing a side of wow that wasn't all destruction based and had a long term progression not just character centred - but race centred. The devs would release new wings to capitals every patch, where you would have to gain enough resources to unlock, so every patch potentially your capital could grow. you could also start working towards it from an early level... and it would tie in somehow to every expansions new power system, though the power aspect would reset with new expansions, the capital progress and race progress wouldn't.

To this effect, followers could be determined, so as you develop your race's capital city and zone, you could power your followers more, and even gain more legendary followers or extra help.. at a certain level of accomplishment you could even have a racial leader sometimes join you, replacing your normal follower or going in addition to your normal follower.

My choices would depend on the character I am playing, I have every elf race in the game, on both genders, so depending on which one I play, I would have a corresponding follower. I even determine the sexual orientation of my characters. They're mostly straight ofc, but I think i have a couple of benders, one male and one female, so they'll have same sex companions.

i agree with @Varadoc - you shouldn't be able to romance certain companions. Like my void elf male would certainly have Alleria around, probably some of my blood elf ones too if the companions weren't faction bound. Would be interesting to have Alleria on a blood elf, especially if she would be programmed to talk blood elf PCs into joining the alliance. So you get some extra special touches with some characters.

If they think this through, it could end up looking very good.

@Mace as a (mostly) Horde player, I'd take Voss, Valtrois and/or Talanji. Maybe Bob as well.

Ultimately my choices would depend on how the characters are portrayed in that capacity, I'm very much into the lore and characterisation, but if it was pure looks based, I would be picking the coolest looking ones and the prettiest... so characters like Illidan/Genn - i think is cool, Alleria/Tyrande/Valeera are gorgeous, Farondis/Sylvanas/Thrall are quite powerful. Jaina/Anduin/Thalyssra/Lor'themar are quite buddy buddy.

But smaller characters like some of the ones in the class halls would be better, legion put it class based, but they could make it race/faction based.. so you first have access or easiest access rather to race ones, but there is small pool of more legendary characters that would be accessed to any player's characters' race. Maybe even some available regardless of faction, like Kalecgos
