Hello,
I am returning to WoW from a break. I am gearing my pally tank and getting ready to run keys. As a new tank should I focus on routes more? I am a little lost in all of it. A little nudge in the right direction would be great. Thanks

Make sure you know where you're going and what you're pulling. The group will expect you to have a plan, make sure you have a stack of invis potions for skips. Method Dungeon Tools is a pretty good addon, you can download plenty of routes. GL tanking.
Hijacking thread for a question: is the new kyrian legendary will be the go-to general prot legendary from tomorrow?
Prot pala here - routes are important, but don't rush that. You can download some good ones and explore them first.
MDT is really good to inspect mob abilities tho - there is a lot you need to know as a tank and there you can just click on a mob and see tooltips for those abilities.
Start slow too, it's not necessary to do triple pack pulls, you will see what works for you.
Also always assume that pugs don't know shit. Amount of times we wiped on "very normal" pull which I do with guildies all the time is too damn high. So if you want to do a triple caster pull with a tank buster mob and some other mob which does AoE cast, it might go south very fast with pugs even if with correct and quite simple execution it's piss easy.
Good news is that paladin probably has most control of all the tanks over bad party - slows, stuns, self heal, AoE interrupt, regular interrupt and avenger shield, external for your party, few waist to clear necro and so on and ample of CDs.
Also I recommend finding a druid friend. Trees is a best friend for a paladin tank currently on higher keys.
