[What If] Diablo 2 Expansion after the Remaster

So let's say in an ideal world, the Remaster does gangbusters sales and they dedicate a dev team to making a new expansion for D2, kinda like how Age of Empires 2 has had a modern resurgence with their modern expansion packs.

What content would you like to see in a theoretical post-Worldstone shattering expansion?

Which new continent would you like to explore? What new enemies or bosses would you like to see? New features? New Classes?

I hope the remaster is successful and they add content/changes.

The game desperately needs it. People seem to forget you can only kill one or two bosses on Hell because of immunities and no one is getting an infinity polearm without dupes like back in the day.

Nah, leave resurrected as it is with the QOL they've done. I prefer it not be ruined with modernization in mind. I

If they want to change shit, relegate that to a different version separate from this. Or just don't. It's a masterpiece game for a reason

no changes means the game is fun for like 10 hours till you hit hell then realise you have to pray to diablo himself for a high rune to drop to have any chance of doing anything in hell with resistance removing runeword like infinity

There's lots of nuances to D2. What era are they bringing in? The current?

I think most people with fond memories of Diablo 2 are pre-synergies - some probably dabbled, but definitely not a whole lot that dealt with it after as opposed to before. They're going to be in for a shock if that's where D2R starts off.

I would assume the latest patch with synergies because its coming with the LoD expansion pack.

But even synergies doesnt save you from 100% immunities. And the game isnt designed to be able to do good damage while distributing points across all trees, you need to specialise. Thats why so many people make cold sorcs and just spam blizz off screen and farm mep runs.

Pre synergies was absolutely chaotic, and I loved it. Any gimmick build was viable given that the game wasn't very balanced at the time.

Most fun and successful builds I had were an Iron Maiden/Bonewall Necro and a Conversion Thorns Paladin. Playing Paladin like a Necromancer was super fun.

More and more I think about it the more I think it may have to happen. Purists logic doesn't translate to a modern game. So a expansion for us, and vanilla LoD HD for the purists.

Well the good thing about it is they can just handle it the same way TBC Classic does it: the new content will be optional, and those who don't like it can just keep playing the old game so nothing changes for them. I see no problem with an approach like that.

Will they DO that, though? I personally doubt it. If they put in development resources it'll be for new games, not old ones.

There's going to be mod support, so there's a high chance that you will get some of your desired changes, just not from blizzard themselves

Don't hold your breath. Creating new content requires a completely different development skillset from just fiddling with what was already there. Even if Vicarious Visions are alright, they probably don't have the capacity to do that sort of thing, and any new content would have to go through a different development team—which, given Blizzard's recent track record, probably would not end well.

Sounds like the Classic+ crowd, but it would be nice.

Im trying to build a community-based featured request list up. Soon up to 50 suggestions, hoping to pass that list on to the dev's. They dont haft to do anything we wish for, BUT! if it happened, why not give them feedback already now.

No, and even if they did one, it wouldnt have the same feel as Diablo2 so would feel like a hole diffrent game.

......and that's the whole point? To have a repolished version of the original game?

It's not a new game release. It's not gonna get new content, nor additional stuff. As much many people dislike D3 and how it turned out to be (myself included) and wand Diablo to shine again, D2:R is not the way they're going to do it. There's D4 for that.

Really, it's just delusional to expect new content to come out for D2. As much as i want to be proven wrong.

Do new graphics really mean that much to people? Why not just replay the game now then instead of waiting to buy something for some retail therapy.

Graphics mean so little to me I can't fathom why someone would want to play a game with quite frankly shit gameplay for 2021 standards

I'd say it's pricy for just a graphical remake, but aside from the price (which could always go on sale) a remaster that keeps the original gameplay is what people ask for out of any given remaster. That's the whole point, taking an old game and just allowing them to run on modern platforms with some quality of life additions to smooth it all out.

That you want a completely different game is beyond the scope of this remaster. One could ask the same - what interest do people have in Diablo 2 Remaster being different when they can get those updated experiences in Diablo 3, Diablo Immortal or Diablo 4? Or even simpler, a Diablo 2 mod, like SigmaXL or Project Diablo 2.

This is why I created a separate thread to talk about the idea of an Expansion that addresses any potential changes, because we all know that D2R isn't going to get major changes to gameplay or balance.

While I plan to play a lot of D2 and would like to see them continue to make balance changes and QoL improvements... I would think that any new ideas they have would be directed to D4 and Immortal.

As much as people may not like it...Immortal is the post-worldstone destruction "expansion" content

I want social features. That was not featured on any panel or video as far as I can tell.
TO FIX WOW:1. smaller server sizes & server-only LFG awarding satchels, so elite players help others. 2. "helper builds" with loom powers - talent trees so elite players cast buffs on low level players XP gain, HP/mana, regen, damage, etc. 3. "helper ilvl" scoring how much you help others. 4. observer games like in SC to watch/chat (like twitch but with MORE DETAILS & inside the wow UI) 5. guild leagues to compete with rival guilds for progression (with observer mode).6. jackpot world mobs.

I didn't hear people complaining about the resident evil remake. If you make the game better which you can now. People will realise they don't know what they want till they actually play it
