As a leftist one of my pet projects has been to point out how certain podcasters and youtubers have been trying to grift the Left in bad faith. Here's an interesting and well researched article. We have been seeing this shift in real time, now read from someone who’s chronicled it.



Over the past year, as the far right trafficked in wild anti-masker and pro-Donald Trump fantasies that led to the Jan. 6 putsch on the Capitol, some prominent members of the “Dirtbag Left” and radical left have been promoting figureheads in the Boogaloo movement, circulating “deep state” conspiracies, and bantering about “great replacement” talking points—ones that can sometimes sound an awful lot like the fever dreams of the alt-right.

Take, for instance, Jimmy Dore, the populist YouTuber and member of the Movement for a Peoples Party’s Advisory Council. He recently courted a public-relations disaster when he offered a platform to Magnus Panvidya, a member of the Boogaloo Boys, a militant group that threatened violence ahead of Biden’s inauguration. Emerging into the public eye last spring during right-wing anti-lockdown protests, the heavily armed Boogaloo Boys have promoted attacks against state and government officials in retaliation for COVID safety restrictions. But Panvidya, who sports a rainbow flag in his Twitter bio, offered the movement a more palatable pro-LGBT and anti-racist face. (Panvidya also has tweeted that Kyle Rittenhouse, the Trump supporter who shot three men, killing two of them, during turbulent anti-racism protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin, over the summer, “was in his right to defend himself.”)

During the interview with Dore, titled “Radical Michigan Anarchist Seeks Unity With the Left,” Panvidya posed in front of a rainbow “Don’t Tread On Me” flag and talked about why the Boogaloos are anti-cop. He asserted, “It is the top versus the bottom, it is not the left versus the right.” Dore then listed the things they agree about: “We would agree on the war, we would agree on the corporate control of our government, we would agree on police brutality. We’re not going to agree on the Second Amendment… you know what, I tell you what, I go back and forth on the Second Amendment.”



IMO they're not flirting with the Far Right. They were always Ron Paul fans that used Anti-Establishment branding. In an effort to colonize and grift from more gullible leftists.

What this has to do with Boogaloo boy interview?

Some leftists are primarily issue-based rather then ideology-driven. For them it makes total sense if both sides see certain things as things worth fighting against to unite on those particular points even if they do not share ideology.

Also, policy based classifications are kinda worthless on the face of it because policies are means to ends; the ends are what matter and the ends are what distinguish actual leftists from the people who say they're leftists while actually participating in a reactionary or hate movement. This thread isn't about the opinions, policies, or ideas of the opposite sides though. Milch views political discourse as a tangle of conflicting interests between people/groups and he thinks there's a conspiracy for far right wingers to infiltrate progressive spaces. It reminds me of the Survival reality show where everything is about strategizing, strange alliances, trickery, etc.

Who the hell cares what they say?

The only random internet people I watch on YouTube are people reading old first-hand historical accounts, 3D modeling tutorials or people recreating food recipes from movies or history. Hell, even if I’m listening to something that’s just rote science I want to see a “doctor” before their name before I’ll listen in.

The world must certainly be a terrifying place for the people who get their news and opinions from people as uneducated as they are.

Okay but that is all irrelevant drama if you understand that the purpose of political discourse is to find conflicting ideas, talk about them, and solve the problem. Thinking that politics is about identifying, rooting out, and fighting opponents is simply a misunderstanding that slows down the process of getting consent and agreement from different people in a democracy.
