So why isn't this guy being detained? I'd imagine letting someone know they are being investigated and what compelling evidence they have against him would cause at least a normal people to consider fleeing. Is this how it normally goes down?

If he tried to flee he’d likely be arrested at the airport. Once his partner in crime sings I suspect that would signal almost the end of the investigation. They’d want to verify his info, but after that there’s not much to do but charge people.

Yeah, that's what I meant by "age difference exclusion". More than half the states have one, mostly ranging from 2-5 years difference.

He's rich, connected and not likely to go to go jail he has no reason to flee because he has nothing to fear.

Because he hasn't been charged with anything yet, he's being investigated. I imagine they could charge him with something small if they really wanted to keep him, but it's not worth the hassle given that he's not gonna flee. Where the fuck would he even go to that wouldn't extradite his ass?

So, Gaetz is moving campaign funds into personal legal defense funds.

$85,000 as of his most recent legally mandated campaign finance records.

Meanwhile, the GOP is very verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry sloooooooooooooooowly moving away from Gaetz. DeSantis is now refusing to comment. Rep Katko (R-NY) is giving money he got from Gaetz to charity. Trump has gone silent, er, remained silent. There are two House investigations plus whatever other federal ones are out there.

Not that I normally recommend people break the law, but it's starting to look like Gaetz would be better off looting his campaign funds and fleeing to Thailand.

Gonna be a pretty high profile case if he actually goes to trial. The popcorn shelves will be empty. I wonder if Gym Beavis Jodan will show up to be a character witness since he’s about the only person who has defended Gaetz since this became public knowledge.

Been watching a lot of YouTube NFL highlights recently... need me that football... but, Matty Ice nickname, made want to give one to Matt Gaetz... I just used “Matty Diddler”, but I recognize that it doesn’t roll off the tongue, like “Matty Ice”... hhmmm... we need Trump to come up with one that sticks...

The paper trail from these idiots is so clear I'm a little surprised Gaetz hasn't been brought in yet, at least for some kind of formal questioning. The DOJ has to be playing this literally by the book - one misstep and the GOP-conspiracy train will kick into high gear.

What I'm most interested in is who else is caught up in this. Right now Gaetz is pretty much a done deal and going down. But what about other Florida politico's that Gaetz and his sex trafficer buddy are close with?

Yeah, it's going to be more than just those two.

I’m thinking DeSantis keeping his mouth shut might be more than just PR distancing.

Hell, why stop at Florida? Gaetz already attempted to implicate Tucker Carlson on live television. We already know Fox News has a systemic workplace predator problem.

Please let that be true and please let it take Kemp from Georgia down with them.

Well, he's not being detained because he hasn't been charged with anything. Until he is charged there is a limited time they can detain him.

Now, as to why he hasn't been charged...well that's a matter of weighing the evidence against him versus the political shitstorm that comes with arresting an elected representative.

I think having testimony from the recipient of the payments, who then funneled them to the girls in question, is key to them making their case. When the memos don't specifically say sex or whatever having testimony that that's what the payments were actually for can be important.

Pretty sure Kemp is done as a relevant political force anyway, since he actually sided with Democracy when Trump wanted to throw his states votes in the trash. As out of character as that was, it was probably a political death sentence for him. The GQP has decided he is the same sort of person as Soros and Killary, and he features prominently in their conspiracies, and not in a positive light.

Kemp didn’t side with democracy though, he just didn’t put his head on the chopping block is all.

And after all that, he signed a bill that would now given him legal cover to do what Trump wanted to do then which also allows them to effectively throw out the votes of the state if they don’t do what he (or whoever is there) wants.

Yep republicans couldn't do what Trump asked in 2020 because it was against the law, they are making it legal for them to do the shady shit Trump asked.

Exactly, HR1 needs to get shoved though soon, HAS to be before next year when the districts are redrawn or they got a chance to truly screw us again for another decade and use that decade to do everything they can to repeal or water it down before the next redistricting if it finally passes.

If they wait till after that happens, they HAVE to throw in a stipulation that would force another redistricting before the next election to handle that which will cause an even bigger round of lies from their peanut gallery.

Edit: As far as Kemp goes, have to look no further than his run against Stacy Abrams to see how much he cares about Democracy. All he cared about was he wasn't putting his own neck on the line to help Trump.
