Yes, meaning that there is a problem, when Gaetz claims the prostitute he paid for, is 19... do you see that big bold problem, of why the specifics of a woman he didn’t rape matter? Do you notice a problem, unrelated to rape?

I clearly misread, misinterpreted, and miscomprehended what was written. Chillax a bit homie.

I actually DID watch the video, and it never mentioned rape. So I thought maybe there was some new revelation ... my question was simply is this a new rape? or the non-consent rape. No need for everyone to freak out lol

I think the issue is that if she is underage, it's Rape. Period. And child rape at that, because she is underage.

Yep, I get that. Do we know if this alleged 17 year old girl was using SeekingArrangements.com to find these 2 guys? Is that website on the hook for any of this? How legal are those "escort" services that say you are only paying for a girls time, anyway?

I don't have any information on that. And to a large extent, it's irrelevant. Underage sex is child rape. Flying someone away to a location to pay for sex is another set of federal felonies. Gaetz appears to be on the hook for all of that, plus much more.

    This is actually not true.

In the majority of states, the age of consent is 16. And even under the age of consent, most states have an age difference exclusion. In Hawaii, for example, a 14-year-old could have consensual sex with a 19-year-old without triggering the state's statutory rape law, despite the fact that the general age of consent is 16 in Hawaii.

In those laws are you seeing some kind of age gap "allowed". So for instance, while the 19 year old in Hawaii is clear, a 30 year old wouldn't be.

Well, it is kind of relevant, because if "sugar daddy" situations are a legal grey area, then possibly the "flying someone to a location to pay for sex" just becomes "flying someone to a location for sex" which might have different punishments. Still on the hook for the 17year old, but any other of the "prostitution" charges might not stick. I don't know how explicit the evidence of "here is money so I can stick my talliwhacker in your whooha" needs to be.

There is always going to be gray areas in the law - and you point out some parts that will raise issues. But with Gaetz, in this thread, he looks to be truly...fucked.

(this isn't directed at you specifically solinari, just to be clear)
I would also categorically disagree with those that think his money is going to keep him from jail. At best his protection would come from the GOP, not Gaetz's family money, and that seems to be falling rapidly.

Gaetz is more than likely facing the following category of charges:
    • Sex Trafficking
    • Prostitution, Paying for Sex
    • Child Rape
    • Money Laundering
    • Lying to Federal Officers

Other than statutory, not that I'm aware of. That was a horrible post edit on my part. Sorry for the confusion everyone. Fixing the original.

From what I've seen, there's got to be pretty solid evidence of this. It's not like you can pay for plane tickets for two unnamed people with cash anymore.

So why isn't this guy being detained? I'd imagine letting someone know they are being investigated and what compelling evidence they have against him would cause at least a normal people to consider fleeing. Is this how it normally goes down?

Yeah, that's what I meant by "age difference exclusion". More than half the states have one, mostly ranging from 2-5 years difference.

He's rich, connected and not likely to go to go jail he has no reason to flee because he has nothing to fear.

Because he hasn't been charged with anything yet, he's being investigated. I imagine they could charge him with something small if they really wanted to keep him, but it's not worth the hassle given that he's not gonna flee. Where the fuck would he even go to that wouldn't extradite his ass?

So, Gaetz is moving campaign funds into personal legal defense funds.

$85,000 as of his most recent legally mandated campaign finance records.

Meanwhile, the GOP is very verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry sloooooooooooooooowly moving away from Gaetz. DeSantis is now refusing to comment. Rep Katko (R-NY) is giving money he got from Gaetz to charity. Trump has gone silent, er, remained silent. There are two House investigations plus whatever other federal ones are out there.

Not that I normally recommend people break the law, but it's starting to look like Gaetz would be better off looting his campaign funds and fleeing to Thailand.

Been watching a lot of YouTube NFL highlights recently... need me that football... but, Matty Ice nickname, made want to give one to Matt Gaetz... I just used “Matty Diddler”, but I recognize that it doesn’t roll off the tongue, like “Matty Ice”... hhmmm... we need Trump to come up with one that sticks...

I dunno if Greene counts as GOP when she clearly self-identifies as Nazi.
