    Advertisers on MMO-C

Maybe this is just a me thing,

but does the fact that MMO-C lets advertisers sell illegal WoW services on the website bother anyone else?

I really hate cheaters and cheating and it drives me insane when I see it.

This activity seems counter productive and promotes cheating in a game that this whole site promotes.

Its just me Im sure, but I had to get this off my shoulders.

    Thanks!

probably, and not that it matters much, but I think they should care.

It's odd, even on my phone's chrome browser without an adblocker installed, I rarely see ads at all. And the few times I do see ads, they're certainly not targeted.

Then again, I'm the kind of user actually taking advantage of GDPR rules and declining the collection of my data for everything.

no, not really, they can say no illegal shit, and no sexual stuff, but thats pretty much it, they cant say "no this company no that company!"

And selling gold is not actually illegal, its against the games ToS but it aint illegal.

also ads are usually based on yoru search history, so if you are seeing constant gold selling sites, maybe stop buyying gold?

To put this into perspective, youtube literally shows adds about a WoW asset flip with cheap text to speech and old WoW assets - from character models to the world. People that sell adds don't give a fuck about what they actually sell as long as no one sues them to hell and back. If a multi-billion dollar endevor like youtube (or google's ad sense to be more precise) doesn't give a flying fuck about offending another billion dollar company, why do you think someone would care about the dealings of a private fan site?

Nope, Never have and Never will buy gold. Dont need it. I actually never see anything on here that I search for, now that you mention it.

And, of course I mean illegal in game(ToS)...not against the law.

I actually spend quite a bit of time in game reporting those who advertise selling raids and kills for money on the finder tool.

Please stop parroting this morronic argument. Ad selling categories are way more broad than you think they are. That is also the reason why PC gaming channels get swamped with mobile gaming adds for trashy clicker games. They only match "gaming" as a tag and that's it. Heck they try to sell me cosmetics (as in the stuff you smear on your face) all the time when I'm the only guy using this PC and account and I'm the absolute last person to give a toss about cosmetics. The assosciation clusters, most probably based on an automatic algorithm and some keywords, are hardly without fault.

Fan sites should be more concerned about what is advertised. They are generally smaller and need the traffic to stay alive. i would think that ads like these might reduce traffic.

but then again, maybe it is just me that thinks its weird. probably is.

I'm honestly surprised you or anyone would know what the ads are selling. People still don't use adblock?

My guess would be that all the ads here are programatics and not actually vetted and sold on an individual basis. It's just content that fits the parameters of the site and therefore performs well, so they get targeted here.

It's a rather shitty practice since it means that a whole bunch of shit can slide in, including shady safe and potentially some less than safe to browse sites.

Most of us just use adblockers because internet ads are intrusive and obnoxious

I just globally and indiscriminately use adblocker. I heard that sometimes gold selling and wow "services" adds go through here and IMO, they should clean those up - it sounds very implausible they have no control over what's advertised on their website and these adds are for sure a bad faith bait for what's supposed to be a WoW/Blizzard fansite.

And yeah, I don't have pangs of guilt or shit like that over using uBlock Origin and the likes globally - the sites brought that shit on themselves.

euuuhhh you do know in most cases adds are targeted at what you like right?

And there are option to stop those adds.

and they need to make money to stay alive. Its not like blizzard is going to pay them. Since they just fired a group of people again so they can give their boss a bonus.

The services are not illegal and the advertisers handling the ads won't decline paying parties just because they're cheating in a game. I wouldn't be happy to allow them on my website, but at least it ain't constant, relentless porn ads...
