You should be camping for months. Maybe a randomised spawn timer of 8-168 hours, and it could spawn any of seven potential rares?
Depends on the point of view. For someone who does play a lot the rare spawn means more whereas someone who doesn't play a lot doesn't really get impacted either way as the rare spawn is still the same to there while farming every day seems better to them.

this, because like the horrific visions, by the time you have cash to spare from progression, earning the cash itself is a chore you don't want to do and anima rewards aren't going up from dailies, so unless its nerfed, you're going to be forced to do every wing of every lfr for those big chunks of anima off the bosses each week

im more annoyed at how some of the interesting zone mounts require me to read like an 8 page guide and also just be lucky enough for the dozen steps to all go right, like I click the horn, follow the path, and nothing

Dude did you ever farm the stun trinket from classic? It's been years now so I dont even remember the name, but I know that I parked an alt for almost 2 years there and basically never even saw the NPC spawn.

The few times I did, he was mostly camped and already tagged. The couple of times I was actually the one to kill him, he never dropped it.

I'll take a farmable item with low drop chance every time over the old system.

Personally i don't think they should make droprates on anything below 1-5%. It's just sadistic to make it less and there's tons of other interesting ways to make stuff hard to obtain than these mindnumbing casino farms. You always end up in these scenarios where there's outliers in each direction - people getting their rare drop on the first kill and others still missing theirs after 1000+ attempts. Bad luck protection would be so easy to fix this nonsense or allow for some expensive gold exchange to guarantee the drop of the next rare killed.

I will however take daily rares with a bit of work to spawn over rare spawns inside rare spawns or rares on insanely long timers that you never see because they're so camped you'll never see anything other than their corpses. Playing > watching tv waiting for alarm for spawn.

The problem with the old design was that most people never even got to make the attempt. That kind of rare spawn is ok for single player games, but it causes issues in MMOs.

Well said, I completely agree. It's particularly silly for transmog items to cost so much anima or be so rare. Most people will simply never ever get them. Why make content that players won't consume?

Does this thread kind of prove people do consume it though? Its people complaining about doing it for 6 months straight and not getting it.

The Slimeroc is bad enough, but there's also the backpack daily drop chance from the 10/10/10 mob that spawns in the slimepools.

I haven't even tried that for obvious reasons lmao.

Probably to do with how prevalent they are now. Pretty much each Shadowlands zone has multiple of them and some are covenant tied too, making them impossible to do on alts unless you plan on making like 6-7 Night Fae alts for getting, for example, the Valfir fox. It's kind of just really obnoxious to the point that the only situation I can think of that is worse in recent times is Soundless.

Bad luck protection ought to be a thing.

    I did say most people.

The question is whether transmog items should be aspirational, status symbols, like mythic raiding. I think they shouldn't. Barring iconic items like Garrosh's shoulders, most players don't give a shit.

I don't really subscribe to things like "most people" do something as a way to determine its actual value. By that metric Torghast is amazing because I am sure it has a really high participation rate. The first quest in the game is single handedly the best piece of content in the game probably by that metric. Doesn't make sense.

I also don't think these cosmetics are anywhere near the status system of something like mythic raiding.. even if I think you can debate if that is really one anymore either. Mostly because the idea of a "status symbol" in a video game seems kind of sad to me. I mean all you do is go out, kill something in 20 seconds, and see if it drops or not. It being somewhat rare (but I mean.. I see all these things all over the place.. so are they?) doesn't make it a status symbol. Those that want it, desire it, and then ultimately have it or don't have it are the ones that assign that.

Are some of them possibly to rare? Maybe. Should they be easier to get? Possibly. Is it really a major game breaking problem that they are the way they are? I would have to say no.

  14. #174
Well Blizzard need to make sure that everything is “casual friendly” otherwise all the “casuals” will create a shit storm. Johnny who only got 30 min to play needs to be able to kill all the “rares”.

  15. #175
For something like Torghast, you would need to evaluate whether anyone does it once they have their legendaries, when direct incentives run out. I know I certainly didn't.

Very few things can be categorized "major game breaking problems". That threshold is far too high to be meaningful.

Correct. But we do not have these metrics so it's in Blizzards hands if thats what we rely on. Same with this I suppose.

I guess we got to ask how big of a problem this is. We agree not game breaking. So maybe.. a lot of people mad? Some sad? Few rages and a few sads? Do we really know? Probably not. Since we can't know then how do we really use this as a case point? I get it. Everyone wants the cool shoulders, the mount, and that toy. Oh don't forget about the pet. But I got to ask.. in the first patch of an expansion.. is not having it all really something that's worth changing? This has been a pattern for many years now.

  17. #177
Blizzard has the metrics, yes. They know how many people have those cosmetics, and they should adjust droprates and anima costs accordingly.

Frankly, that's why I don't have any of it myself. I figured it was all far too rare or too expensive, and anima drops too meager, and I'd wait until they nerfed it all. And they will, eventually. I'm in no particular hurry.

Thing is, this led to me playing the game less. They have those metrics too. Player engagement matters, if people don't login they're less likely to renew their subscription.

Blizz would have an easier time having me subscribed for 3 months if they did the following:

    - rare drops 1 fragment a day
    - combine 100 fragments to create a cosmetic

    Both parties happy:
    - Blizz is happy because they secured a 3 month subscription
    - Players happy because they can actually see the light at the end of the grind

Feels better than an item having 1% drop chance where I pretend that it can drop once every 100 attempts.

Eh, OP should just find ppl and file a class action lawsuit against Blizzard in a country where "Gambling-like gameplay" is illegal.
