Aegwynn (as Guardian) vs. Queen Azshara - Who would most likely win in a real battle?

Aegwynn - She is the most powerful Guardian of Tirisfal, serving in her role for a thousand years - she fought and almost defeated Sargeras's manifestation not once but twice - the second time was when she was without any Guardian abilities, and she was still apparently single-handedly winning her fight with Medivh, being directly helped by Sargeras himself, at Karazhan. She was able to easily elude the Kirin Tor for decades, as well as the best of their Tirisgarde. She was the one who sealed the Tomb of Sargeras, and was able to subdue Aluneth, which she used to create Karazhan, as well as wielding Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian.

Azshara - Arguably the most powerful and renowned night elf ever to live. Greatest of the Highborne rulers. She has been described as the most powerful sorceress in existence - to have ever lived. Destroyed Pillar of Creation easily (Tidestone of Golganneth). During the War of the Ancients, Mannoroth realized she was actually far stronger than he was - that only Archimonde and Sargeras provided superior to her, and this was 10,000 years ago, when she was much less experienced. Aluneth stated that naga wielded the arcane without finesse - but there was a time Azshara's people apparently "had the potential to rival the titans". Although Azshara today is without the Well of Eternity - she does have access to considerable Void abilities along with her arcane ones.

Who would most likely win in a real fight if Aegwynn, when she was serving as Guardian of Tirisfal, had fought Azshara, in some random location where neither of them have the advantage, without any assistance?

When the last emperor hid our land from the rest of the world, he also preserved...our ancient enemy, the mantid. So it is with your Alliance and your Horde. They are not strong despite one another; they are strong BECAUSE of one another. You mistake your greatest strength for weakness. Do you see this?"

    probably Aegwynn.

and dammit I voted Azshara lol.

    it would be close though.

if you believe in statements what Lor'themar and Jaina said about Azshara being the most powerful mage ever then she would probably win but power isn't everything.

    Aegwynn > Sargeras > Azshara
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

    Aegwynn no contest

Aegwynn is very powerful, sure. But I think a lot of people are downplaying Azshara here

I voted Azshara based on statements by Jaina and Lor'themar as aforementioned. Of course, Aegwynn is easily second most likely, but Azshara was played up as something special even back then in her heyday as a Night Elf, and she's only gotten stronger.

There is a component people are missing. A lot of Azshara's power came after her bargain with N'Zoth. Prior to that, her power (while quite strong for being a part of the mortal races) was not nearly on the level of Aegwynn.

If the question is Aegwynn vs pre-nzoth Azshara.. Then Aegwynn wins handily.
If the question is Aegwynn vs post-nzoth Azshara.. Then its a coin toss imo.
If the question is Aegwynn vs BfA level Azshara.. I think Azshara wins.

    Just my .02 though.

you mean Avatar of Sargeras and iirc he wanted to lose or at the very least he let her kill him once he realized he can't beat her.

This. Azshara gurl was a fraud, as her boss fight demonstrated clearly. Without all that complicated machinery around, she's nothing. Poor fish lady, she was definitely Saruman'd.

was that pic of Azshara made official yet???
considering its how she looked both in her warbringers video and in the cata dungeon, its her canon look before n'zoth.

on topic: aegwynn stomps, no contest.

    cool.

wait, there is canon in WoW

but yeah, Azshara was a wasted potential just like 90% of things they do.

    Let's compare two feats:

The Moon Guard being able to save themselves from the Ocean, a feat that Azshara tried and took the easy way out of.

Let's keep in mind that Humans learn magic faster than elves - demonstrated when the Humans first learned magic from the Elves, which resulted in a firestorm that decimated troll forces. Let's also keep in mind that as a position as Guardian it is a role comprised of many, many, many mages all throughout history -- only the finest, pooling their magic together into one person.

Sounds pretty similar to that of the Moon Guard, right? Comparing the Moon Guard and the Guardian, we can surmise that due to the human lineage, that the combined might of the Guardian surpasses that of the Moon Guard, that the power there would be more than that of the Moon Guard and that would be able to learn faster feats that would be greater than what the Moon Guard demonstrated when they held back the Ocean -- a feat that Azshara wasn't able to hold back (her magic cracks at the walls in the demonstrated short).

Thus, if we're comparing Azshara, one that wasn't able to hold back an Ocean, to the Moon Guard, who was able to hold it back, and compare the Moon Guard to the Council of Tirisfal and the combined role of the Guardian, I think it's fair to say that Aegwynn would be stronger.

(It's worth noting that Medivh, the Last Guardian, and Med'an, are currently missing. The power of the Guardian has since not been passed on from either of them to create a new Guardian. Though Medivh names Khadgar Guardian in spirit and ideals, the power was never passed on to him proper.)

How much of Azshara's supposed power (not actual feats) were just due to her bewitching everyone. We already know she did it with her looks why wouldn't she have done it with her powerlevel?

Aegwynn BTFOed Sargeras, a feat pretty much no one else in the Warcraft setting can claim, and thus far Sargeras is canonically the strongest being in the setting.

Debatable given that Malfurion is a thing, but Malfurion is so ludicrously high powerlevel he's never allowed to go all out because if he did he would solve most of the conflicts in WoW, leaving nothing for the players to do. Same reason why Medivh has been doing nothing since Warcraft 3.

Aegwynn. Guardians were UBER powerful. Unless their power was capped or something, she should have the combined magical might of hundreds of Jaina or Khadgar level mages.

But... Is Medivh actually alive? When you go to BC Kara, the whole thing seems to be completely deserted, and in Kara 2.0, it is quite unclear what Medivh actually is, going by his VA.

This is hard because it's Aegynn versus the potentially unlimited power Azshara had at her disposal. I could see them both besting each other in different magic schools, but not a definitive answer on who'd ultimately win. That's the problem with characters who are powerful but lack defined power caps.
