Josh Duggar arrested by federal agents today and is being held without bail.

Josh Duggar, who previously starred alongside his family on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting, was reportedly arrested on Thursday for undisclosed charges. The 33-year-old has been held without bond, according to his online detainee information, since being detained in Washington County, Arkansas. Duggar was arrested by Homeland Security, a U.S. Marshals Service representative confirmed to People. (Representatives for Duggar and TLC have not responded to People’s requests for comment.)

This is far from the first time that Duggar has been embroiled in legal trouble. His family’s reality show, 19 Kids and Counting, about raising their sprawling brood in a devoutly religious household, was canceled after the eldest son’s molestation scandal. After nearly seven years, the TLC series ended in 2015 when reports emerged that Duggar had been accused of allegedly molesting multiple girls as a teenager, including his own sisters. (In a statement to People, Duggar said he “acted inexcusably, for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret.” He also resigned from his post at the Family Research Council.)

Later that same year, Duggar admitted to being “the biggest hypocrite ever” when he was outed as a member of the Ashley Madison dating site while being married. He apologized to his wife, Anna, in a statement, acknowledging that he was “unfaithful” and had a “secret addiction” to pornography.

Man, the GOP really has a child predator problem. Also, I'm totally shocked and surprised that this is coming from one of the "stars" of one of TLC's garbage reality shows. When they lost federal funding and transitioned from shows about actually learning things to bottom-tier reality TV I was sad.

I mean, I don’t wanna get too into it on account of the rules here, but I think growing up in a very religious household, where sexuality is frowned upon and suppressed, may be a reason.

We see it elsewhere.... within the church.

I mean, the "reason" is that they're told to repress their identity and to feel shame and self-hatred for what they want, and to try and force themselves to fit into a life mode that they do not enjoy. And this makes them so deeply angry that they lash out aggressively at anyone and everyone who's enjoying their lives and not repressing themselves. Same reason there's so many deep homophobes among conservatives, most of whom end up getting outed as secretly gay themselves.

They're being tortured and abused from childhood, and grow up to be torturers and abusers themselves.

The idea that, like, maybe don't torture and abuse people? Doesn't even cross their minds.

It's a "reason", but let's not pretend it's an excuse.

I think religion gets a bad rap. It isn't religion causing any of this. It's fundamentalism and fascism. And the Republicans, even if you remove the religious right's religious interests, are deeply rooted in both concepts. Even if you pressed "delete" on God's keyboard and removed Christianity entirely, it wouldn't correct any of this. Religion's just a way they self-justify their abusiveness, and if you took that away, it wouldn't stop them, they'd just fine another self-justification.

There's some interesting research about the rise of the Evangelical movement. It was basically a cover for segregationists to rebrand their politics.

Its no mistake that they surged in numbers in direct opposition to the civil rights and feminist movements.

Trump ripped that cover off completely, and they abandoned all religious principles to support him uniformly. So its more than fair to discuss them as a political group. With their politics centered around; segregation misogamy, and nativism.

Shapiro's just a regular-grade idiot who learned a couple dishonest rhetorical tricks that he uses over and over to "own" people in "debates".

Every single time, he attacks obvious straw man arguments rather than his opponent's position, and he vaguely references studies (usually misrepresenting their results wildly in the process) relying on the fact that his opponent doesn't have the study right there to properly present a counterpoint.

Literally, every single "debate" he does boils down to that. You'll notice if you bother to run through his history that he does everything he can to avoid actual moderated debate, where his opponents are offered equal time to speak, moderators fact-check, and his opponents are given information as to his sources to prepare counterpoints in response. Because under those measures, Shapiro gets exposed as the idiot that he is; he's just yelling quickly into a microphone that's too close to his mouth and people confuse that for intelligence.
