The only way to start fresh with decluttering and making some sense is to go for WoW2.
Don't think there's anything they can to do it now to not be a clusterfuck.

YES GOD YES. A lore reset is the only hope.

That would be the only thing that could redeem the Warcraft Universe from the shameful, pitiful and obscene state its lore is in.

I dream of the day when WoW dies at once and disappears, and then a "reset" undoes and eliminates all the garbage created in the last decades in pursuit of a decent and meaningful Warcraft Universe, as it was before WoW.

That's when a big-budget television series will continue the legacy of the lore of Warcraft in a proper way, with quality writers and without the stupid restrictions of a video game.

for a wow 2 yes I can see that being a reality

Except the problem really isn't with the retcons or inconsistencies. The problem is the writers and the narrative implementation. Same problem with why item, stat and level squishes are pointless and should not have been pursued. The problem there is that the system developers can't think of any carrot to encourage people to continue playing other than large numbers. So they constantly reset all progress to have everyone rewalk the same path. Like it's not even a treadmill anymore, the treadmill is broken. Instead we're walking around the same literal block expansion after expansion now. Any kind of reset shouldn't be tolerated until Blizzard shows the capability to do good game design again.
What are you willing to sacrifice?

It's not like a timeskip would magically change the team at blizzard. You would still have the same writers with the same quality of stories. But a X years gap without any reason for it.

Did they run out of ideas or did they not run out of ideas? Make up your mind.

Just how the First Ones made it.

Rewriting all warcraft in the way they write shits now... I mean, that's basically what Chronicles is, on one hand. And we all know how badly that would go, on the other hand.
"THEY ARE ERASING/RETCONNING ALL OF OLD BLIZZARD'S STUFF"

Funny how all of the major old WoW Villains are either Defeated (Or just straight up killed), or are in AFK mode for another expac (And will likely just be side characters/mid tier dungeon, quest, and raid bosses anyway).

Nothing is erased. We're just getting newer shit cause mostly all the old Lore's been dealt with already.

FUCK NO. We had enough of his Gary Stu self insert bullshit back in BFA.

In his world, Sylvanas is Warchief of the World and Nathanos is her personal plaything.
We're all newbs, some are just more newbier than others.

Just a burned out hardcore raider turned casual.
Too late for Classic, too soon for WOTLK Classic
Just in time to Burning Crusade Classic

Didn't she get humiliated at the end of BFA tho?

They're about to. We're going to come back from Shadowlands in 10.0 only to find that due to time flowing differently it's now years/decades later on Azeroth.

    This.

There is no hope for Warcraft under the current creative team. In fact, I don't think there is hope for Warcraft without Metzen at the helm, period.

Also, some things aren't meant to go on for forever. Some things aren't meant to have a billion reboot storylines like a DC or Marvel comic. Sometimes, something just needs to freaking end, like a manga or an anime or a JRPG storyline. "I've told the story! And now it's time to go tell a new one." WoW's story has a pretty natural (and satisfying) ending with MoP 5.4, and had WoW not been forced to keep going on for financial reasons I'm pretty sure it would have ended there, just like how SC2 ended with LotV and there is nothing after that.

There is no hope for any new good Warcraft story to come out. Cherish the good WoW story that Metzen created and move on with your life. Find new stories to enjoy and become fans of.

Rather than a reset, we need a timeskip to keep coming up with something fresh, period.

For me, a reset and slate-wiping meaning nothing we (or my character) has done actually happened or mattered would be such a gut punch I’d just walk away from the franchise entirely.

I was talking more about the rewrite of the First, Second and Third Wars in Chronicles than the actual game content, but you seem to be in the mood for high horse riding so go on.

If they ever did Warcraft 4, then I think ignoring WoW's canon would be better, as its choices are very MMO oriented and not suited for an RTS.

However for WoW, I don't feel it's necessary to do any reset.

Way to dodge the question. I ask again: Are they telling you all the story ingame now?
