Yes, the song was definitely not addressing the people in it as the players, but as characters instead. Which is why the Blood Elf and Draenei were so prominently featured in this video as well.

... They aren't the actual characters in-game. They aren't elves and dwarves. They're the humans who played said characters, dressed up. Because the story centers aren't the PLAYERS, not the CHARACTERS.
