Red face From Socialist Waifu to Socialite

I dont trust podcasters because they're using social media to monetize their fans. Which seems like exploitation.
Is the tale of Neekolul a cautionary one?

A TikTok influencer who made her name supporting Bernie Sanders and calling to tax the rich is facing ridicule for showing off a new multi-million dollar apartment.
Nicole Sanchez, or “Neekolul” on TikTok, is well known for an “OK Boomer” video in which she wears a t-shirt with the Democrat senator’s branding on it and dances.
She is also known for dancing in a sweater sold by Democratic Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and adorned with the words “Tax the rich”.

In a video of an apartment tour on Tuesday, Sanchez showed-off $2m (£1.4m) home, including an empty wine fridge and a Nespresso machine despite not drinking coffee.
“This is like Martha Stewart vibes,” Sanchez says in the video. “Like, I think only people that are like Martha Stewarts will find this very pleasing.”

Talking about podcasters and influencers makes their fans uncomfortable. But how can you pry people away from their favorite online grifters?

Spending the money you get from people watching your content doesn't make you a "grifter," fyi.

And I'm going to guess that this """"controversy"""" is about as stupid as conservative fuckwits complaining that Sanders himself has a vacation home.

That's a whole lot of words for saying "Progressives bad".

You can be rich and want higher taxes for the rich.
You can be rich and want a functioning government with an actual social safety net and be willing to pay for it...out of your wealth.

This thing that you're doing here, right now, is literally fucking idiotic Republican grift Dijon Mustard bullshit 101.

Every time YOU mention the word "grift" an Irony meter breaks somewhere.

I'm failing to see the issue? I don't know this person but the only way I'd see there as a problem if she was posing as poor and asking her followers for money.

Getting rich isn't a sin by itself, and even rich people can think they should be taxed more.

Social media is generally all a bunch of BS and so-called influencers are generally the worst so I'm struggling to find a reason to care about an influencer showing off a condo that may or may not even be hers.

Whats next, top athletes can also not be left-wing anymore because they get money for what they do?

Anyone who thinks influencers have any sort of ethics, integrity or morals is seriously disturbed. She's not progressive, she's not conservative... she's a child of a turbo capitalist consumer society that somehow established being unqualified at basically anything and having the right looks is enough to make a fortune. It helps if skimpy outfits are included.

I'd be surprised if she has any political views at all. Beyond, you know, what's the most popular thing to say right now? Prom queens commercialised in an adult world, that might be the honest headline.

So what are we supposed to be angry about, here?

She's kinda left-wing. And? Sanders and AOC are neither of them radicals, let alone socialists.

She made money off social media outreach. That's a legitimate job. People can make a lot of money off it. Is the issue there that there's fewer middle-men who get to bleed off the revenue she generates, basically just the social media networks she works through? As opposed to a musician, who gets bled out through production, management, publishing, writing, label promotion, marketing, etc? Influencers and streamers and the like aren't "grifting" anyone.

Is she ranting against paying taxes now, or something? If she is, whoah, a celebrity turns out to be a hypocrite, news at 11. But I don't see any indication she has said anything like that. You realize there's nothing about social democracy that is opposed to the concept of wealth, right? The issue is with the exploitation of the working masses (which she's not doing, given her industry), and with the lack of taxation of that wealth (which she's spoken against and there's no indication she's reversed course).

This is just conservative boomer types angry that a young lefty has made a lot of money entirely legitimately.

I am reserving judgement until we see her tax returns.

If she pays capitol gains taxes instead of income taxes we should burn her in effigy.

If she donates to charity and doesn’t take deductions for it then we should elevate her to sainthood.

Ok, after actually looking up who she is.. Im not really sure what pod-casters have to do with TikTok stars, but she only supported Sanders who is the most centre-left you can get.

Social democrats don't even try to get rid of the capitalist system, they just support strict regulations and a strong social safety net. Her 'job' will work exactly the same and her income[before taxes] will also remain the same.. What the fuck are you even on about this time? I don't even think she is even close to being a billionaire[whom also exist in social democratic systems anyway]

"Young left-winger makes money in newfangled industry that scares oldsters because they don't understand it."

    That's basically the issue, here.

Taxing Online Income could fund a lot of social programs.

Do you think that people make money online and don’t pay taxes? Do you think that Amazon pays $0 in taxes is because they do all their business online?

People making money online have to declare and pay taxes for that income.

Still barely any idea who she is, but good on her for promoting the need to tax people like her more heavily.

Is this just another one of your anti-Sanders threads in disguise?

I agree. There are definitely people in the US making bank off the US who need to start contributing more. Although, I would put religious institutions and corporations over streamers. It would be like eating a crumb vs an entire sheet cake the size of a Costco.

How many more dumb takes can you have on this issue?

    https://www.streamscheme.com/how-to-...as-a-streamer/

Income from streaming and such shit has been taxable income for years. We can discuss rates, but that's a different thing.

I honestly thought this was just another example - with a political flavor - of an opportunistic influencer capitalizing on a given message to make money, without genuinely believing in it themselves.

I mean, isn't that what most influencers are? Posers posing for the sake of money?

Considering that's likely all reported income...yeah, it's taxable? Has she changed her stance on taxing the rich or something?

I'm honestly struggling to find any reason whatsoever to give a shit about literally any of this. This is functionally no different than that time conservatives lost their shit because they found out a BLM leader had multiple homes or whatever that nontroversy is.
