This has been happening throughout Classic.
If it actually means anything is another story. I've been thanked for reports, only to find the same reported person still botting in Azshara the day after.

Bans happen in waves. It would be a waste of time to investigate and ban people who´ve been reported right away.

Usually they sent a letter on your bnet account's email.
I had some mails about reporting in Hots and OW.
And well, Once when I got banned during TBC times when spammed [Dirge].
I just hope that [Dirge] happens in current TBC
