So Guildie got banned for Hacks but no hacks?

So, I wake up this morning to find a guildie of mine ended up having his account banned with the reason "Unauthorized Cheat Programs (Hacks)". No one knows why in dear god's name he got this since is barely able to even use the Details addon properly, and has stated as such. He recently appealed...twice, first time they straight up told him they didn't need to explain what he did, while the second time had a response of we have enough evidence to support their theory of being found guilty of cheating but they will instead lift the permanent ban and instead issue a 6 month suspension.

List of addons: details damage meter, maxdps, maxdps rotation helper, simulationcraft

The two things he could think of was them even possibly considering this is from a +6 Mythic Theater of Pain last 2 bosses with 1 dps gone and he was tanking on a Guardian Druid, and as I was told it was not done in time, and that he and his wife are Battletag linked he plays her character at times to help gear her up (such as prior to the dungeon he was running her character in our guild's normal mode alt run until she got back and then logged onto his character afterward).

Is there any GOOD advice to help them out or is Blizzard running several screws missing(more than usual) and they are out of luck?

Okay. We clearly are not getting the full story.
    • First, people can lie. He could actually be using cheat programs, and just lies that he doesn't.
    • Second, he might just not know it. He might think it's just an addon when it's actually a hack.
    • Third, it could be an addon with malicious code that the anti-cheat warden recognizes as a hack.
    • Fourth, it could just actually be a false flag. In that case, gotta open a ticket.
I did a Necromancer thing. Check it out! All feedback welcome!
I also did a Bard thing! Questions, comments and ideas, all welcome!

This sounds like a story you don't know a lot about. Hell, if he's so bad at addons he could have downloaded something that was a hack instead of an addon. Maybe the wife got a model changer. You just never know. Never trust people who say they don't know why they got banned. There's always a reason.

As Ielenia pointed out with their 2nd bullet point, he doesn't seem to really know what addons are considering that Simcraft was something you listed as him using as an addon. Simcraft isn't an addon, it is a standalone program used to find stat weights.

I'd add in the possibility of it being something like multiple inputs from a single button press, if he made the mistake of using any of the macro features that are common to many of the keyboards marketed as "gaming" keyboards. Or any sort of automation software like AHK for example.

there is a simulationcraft addon though, to quickly get a /simc string of your characters equipment and gear in bags. I think he's referring to that.

also the keyboard thing isn't something I would be worry about, unless you actually make it do repeated inputs by pressing it once.
Doing macros for shift+8 or whatever to get more keybinds is sorta the reason why people buy gaming keyboards and MMO-mice.

Blizzard never gives out any specifics on why "you" got banned, just general and very encompassing reasons.
The main reason for that is that if Blizzard gave very specific reasons then bot/hack developers could use that feedback to improve their bots and hacks.

Sounds like a made up story. First, they would either called it "unauthorised 3rd party programs" or "cheat programs", but certainly not "unauthorised cheat programs", since that's an obvious tautology.

Blizzard's rules a crystal clear - one key press = one action. Many gaming keyboards and mice can be programmed to do sequences of key-presses with one press and/or automatically "pressing buttons" at certain intervals. And such functions are a no-go.
So rebinding a normal key-bind to a mouse-button or a special key on your keyboard is OK, but any automation is against the ToS.

So people should be careful how they use modern gaming keyboards and mice as many have functions that are against Blizzard's rules.

did the wife get banned too?

    good advice:
-if you aren't hacking, make sure nobody else on the network is either. if you ever multibox your wifes char that can easily count as hacking too.
-make sure you aren't accidentally login in with a work VPN or stuff like that.
-always stay polite and friendly in your appeals and maybe you will get lucky, but be prepared to just eat the 6 month suspension.
-only your wow account should be banned, not your bnet account. so you just probably just play on another wow account in the meantime.

Yeah the wife apparently got banned too. It already got reduced the the 6 month suspension. Was told in the past 15 minutes that apparently his 8 year old kids play the characters (same computer still so no changes to macros/addons) and then do battlegrounds, so yeah, now I'm just assuming the standard pvp hatred (for getting reported) or the kid did something unintentional. Although still no clue how that gives any evidence to hacks.

The most common false flag is using a VPN.

It triggers blizzards autoflag system commonly you simply need to speak to a gm assuming it wasn't something deliberate.

57 times out of 10, the player actually was hacking and LIED to you.
TO FIX WOW:1. smaller server sizes & server-only LFG awarding satchels, so elite players help others. 2. "helper builds" with loom powers - talent trees so elite players cast buffs on low level players XP gain, HP/mana, regen, damage, etc. 3. "helper ilvl" scoring how much you help others. 4. observer games like in SC to watch/chat (like twitch but with MORE DETAILS & inside the wow UI) 5. guild leagues to compete with rival guilds for progression (with observer mode).6. jackpot world mobs.

Your guildie was hacking for sure.

game is full of cehaters and exploiters who don't wanna play fair. And the devs ignore the vast majority of it.

Simcraft does have an addon for exporting your character information, and can people please stop using stat weights? This is 2021, not 2005. We don't need them anymore, there's better tools which are just as accessible.

This is not the place to discuss official bans or infractions from Blizzard, as there is no way to conclusively confirm any story being told and no real resolution possible outside of Blizzard's official support apparatus. Closing this.

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see." - Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
