Useless train of thought because there will never be an armed conflict between Russia and NATO. Ever. There's way to much money to be made for everyone. All we get is the occasional shake-up to convince us that the other side is still bad while we build 3 pipelines to import russian gas to Europe. Russia has nothing to gain from attacking NATO, nor the other way around, and NATO doesn't care enough about the small countries around Russia to do anything if they get annexed. Europe doesn't give a shit about Ukraine, the US doesn't give a shit about Ukraine, so nothing will ever come from this, Propaganda on both sides aside.
In case of UK provocation it is entirely possible for Russia to fight UK alone.
But most provocations will be answered in different dimensions.
Just like Turkish provocation with downing Russian bomber didn't create war between Russia and NATO, neither will destruction of any UK ship.

Nato article 5 is defense of nato territory, not backing a nato country going outside in other lands. Like nato didn't have to invade iraq.
China is superior to Russia in most respects now. Nukes being a major point.

There will not be because Russia know it will not be able to win a war of aggression against NATO and NATO has no desire to start aggression against Russia. Europe will eventually wean itself of Russian gas, and Russia will be of even less concern.

If you think shooting down a strike aircraft and sinking a major warship are equal, you are nuts!

Article 5 could count if a warship not engaged in hostilities and sailing in a legal manner was intentionally attacked.
