Question Best advice for a new survival hunter

    Hey!
What's your best advice for a new - soon to be - survival hunter?
    Macro-tips, playstyle, legendaries, etc.

Is Wowhead my best place to learn, besides testing the spec myself?

    Thanks!

If anything - I would advice you to check out the Icy-Veins page for Survival Hunters if you plan on doing PvE content. It should have everything you need. https://www.icy-veins.com/wow/surviv...-pve-dps-guide

If Arena is your goal: then Icy-Veins also has a PvP page for Survival Hunters. https://www.icy-veins.com/wow/survival-hunter-pvp-guide

If you goal is BG's - I do not know where to look. I may be out of the loop here but I feel like any and all webpages I run into for PvP tips in WoW is ALWAYS geared toward Arena; so I have no clue where to look for BG tips.

They're great for PvP, and mediocre for PvE.

because after 12 years blizz noticed that the ranged spec hunter is actually supposed to be melee
i mean how many ppl started playing wow since classic as hunter and wanted to be melee, and had to wait 12 years until blizz fix it?
also there is way too many melee classes in wow, hunter is almost never requested to fill a melee spot anywhere, pve or pvp
u playing a spec that feels insult to its class, and least requested and least popular, triple shit combo, what else u want as reason for why not play melee hunter?
The beginning of wisdom is the statement 'I do not know.' The person who cannot make that statement is one who will never learn anything. And I have prided myself on my ability to learn

You're fine. Some people just can't let go that survival went melee 6 years ago…

It's a fun spec, my hunter is survival too.

Hah! I believe that is an understatement - it seem to be a real issue to this guy

Awesome, thank you! I will have a look at them since I'm primarily a PVPer.

Cheers mate! Much appreciated and yes, most of the guides are 100% dedicated towards Arena.

Best advice for someone new to SV is to make sure you pay 0 attention to anyone who tells you not to play it. They are just sad and salty.

Icyveins is probably a good place to start, and also ignore all the people whose sole contribution is " play another spec " they are just mad that Blizzard turned survival into a melee spec in Legion.
One downside in 9.1 is that survival miss out on having a legendary weapon but if you don't want to play MM or BM then thats a sacrifice you will have to make.

Surv is ok. But don't expect to top the meters. Also don't listen to the whiners.

Icyveins and wowhead have a few good guides for hunters. But there is not as much out as for Moonkins for example, simply becuase the spec doesn't perform that good.

    And performance always triggers popularity.

There's a youtube guide that is mostly directed toward Mythic+, but it does a good job of covering how to play the spec. In case you are interested in PVE as well. Nothing changed mechanically in 9.1. Several abilities got buffed but the spec is played the same.

check guides like icy veins, sim your gear on raidbots. Keep in mind while survival isnt bad, it tends to not have so good reputation so you might have troubles getting into keys/raids/finding a raidspot in guild. Not impossible ofcourse but important to keep in mind

well tbf you cant blame people for being salty when blizzard massacred a popular hunter specc and made it from ranged to meele. So while i can agree on that some of the hate towards survival is unessecery, i dont blame them for being salty about what happened to the specc (hell i can admit im salt myself over it but i have given up the hopes of RSV ever coming back so at this point i rerolled to another class due MM is way to clunky and BM is as braindead specc as it gets). Anyhow with that being said and to get ontopic:

OP, check out guides like icy veins and the hunter discord, they have elaborate guides on how to play surv hunter. Dont expect to get a spot as surv in mythic raiding but its solid in M+ and pvp (atleast from last time i checked, havent updated myself in a while so i might have missed something. Also ive heard the new tier sets for survival is supposed to be really good.

My best advice is if you wanna push content, go with friends and guilds, since i can imagine it can become a issue if you are pugging as survival hunter due to the stigma surrounding the specc.

Survival hunters are definitely really strong in arenas due to their control and strong constant preassure. They excel in comps like Jungle or thug cleave.

In BGs, they are less attractive, MM hunters are definitely better pick for BGs because of their ridiculous burst. You can certainly reach like 1800s with surv without huge problems... But expect you will not spend much time in teamfights, your tasks will be guarding bases or helping rogue to capture a base.

I recommend checking Bicmex and his YouTube guides. He covers very detailed guides, explains all important details. He is outstanding survival Hunter and just following his guide, it helped me to improve a lot.

Also, don't listen to haters. Survival is fun spec with unique playstyle. I play both survival and MM, depending on the content and compositions. Survival has it's issues, but it's not that terrible as some people say.
