What are you not enjoying about the game?

Since we're seeing a lot of things people aren't enjoying about FFXIV in the thread where people are supposed to express what they enjoy about the game I thought that I'd create a new thread for this purpose.

It doesn't matter if you've played the game for years or never plan to play it ever, feel free to write anything you don't enjoy about it.

You have to use external applications in order to use the mousewheel for hotbar hotkeys.

Retainers are a wonky version of a bank.

    Lalafells exist.

I really liked the heavensward aethyr current gathering mini game. Perhaps its just that im still in the first half of the 4.0 content, but i seem to be bouncing around a lot more... and i have this feeling that im going to be gradually unlocking parts of the map later on (as with sea of clouds, for example, which came in two distinct phases).

Obviously thisis to make the story a bit more dynamic, but its really irritating running the fog of war for 500 yalms to the south west up to a mini ledge you cant bypass until the story chain lets you... plus, i dont think it lets you pick up the nearest one. It seems to give them in sequence (or at worst, the nearest one, which you are then looked into even if you refresh the compass). Again, probably to stop people chasing their tails whilst refresh spamming, but its still annoying me

    One char / all classes.
    Gear system is bland cause...
..there is no talent system so every job will need the same gear and you will have only one bis for every job.

"But WoW have the ilusion of choice!"
Nops, check wowlogs = you have some (very little on top 100, but still some) spec diversity and, even if you have a ''one build to rule them all" you still, usually, can vary on mythic +

But its from mythic raiding. Heroic you play 2-3 viable builds per spec. As DPS. Healer you will find more viable builds (cause you - sometimes - need to change and pick something to cover other healers).

I hate to spam 2-3 skills to dps as a healer. As a disc priest i just...no, please. No. I cant understand why a disc priest would say that Scholar (ok, not 2-3..its 4) healing is better. Even Druid hot + cat dps is far better. Even holy priest can get something by smite spam (reset chatise and power word miracle). Even pally or monk healing can get something from healer. Sadly Shammy can just meme chains of destruction.

DPS as a healer is lackluster. I can only play Astro cause cards and i miss the old system.

    Crafting system is good.

Biggest gripe with the game is lack of any class customization, no talent tree is pretty hard to swallow if you come from any other MMO. There is no choice on how you play your job, just one way.

Subjectively, the art style. I prefer a darker aesthetic

Objectively, ARR is a slog to get through, the post ARR content to get to heavensword is also WAY too long. Summoner sucks apparently (that was gonna be a 2nd job of mine until i heard how bad it is) the long gcd, how abilities “snapshot” your location and hit you if you try to move at the last second (even if you 100% were clear, it remembers where you were which is lame). The races don’t have any proper monster races or ugly races, going back to my darker aesthetic preference. The combat can be a little boring as a BLM (it’s basically vanilla WoW mage rotation of 2-5 buttons).

Just my 2 cents tho, there’s certainly a lot I love about ff14 tho

Ps - I also haven’t won the casino cactpot yet. Booooooo jk

I find the art style weirdly repellent. I'm not sure why, I find mind the anime aesthetic generally, and I like more than a few single player FF games, but there's just something about the visuals that put me off.

you aren't alone my dude, that's probably the top complaint about ff14 but it's one that's subjective too so there really isn't any kind of solution to it

Honestly, that there isn't a more interesting way to level alternate jobs. The slog of roulettes/POTD/HOH/Beast Tribes is pretty boring the 3rd or 4th time.

Also the intro experience needs reworked. I hope with the ending of the Hydalen vs Zodiark story they give new players a way to play through a modernized story catch-up, cause ARR is bad and has prevented many of my friends from playing it.
We live in an era of "me versus them", an era where something is done that you don't like means you are personally attacked. People whine too much.
Let us play video games and be happy.

I'm annoyed that there's still no Z-axis controls in the house decorating interface and that wooden lofts still only allow table top items -_-

I've been leveling Astro via MSQ duty and I keep getting paired up with a healer who somehow prides themselves into doing literally nothing the entire dungeon. Is it hard? Of course not, its easy to one heal but it irritates me to no end that someone can just afk through it and nobody seems to care. I've seen this while leveling other roles as well, but it especially seems to irritate me as a healer.

I agree transition from ARR to Heavensword is a little long (though I think they fixed it in a recent update? Maybe?) But I disagree with your statement on BLM rotation.

Outside of procs that change your priority you have to cycle properly through Blizzard/Thunder/Fire, casting the right ST or AOE version, enochian/despair/Umbral spell.

My BLM has around 24 buttons for a consistent rotation.

I believed that they've hinted at that. That the new story would be the new leveling path, I suppose that the current story would become optional content or something.

Fixing the leveling experience for new players, and fixing the housing experience overall would be huge improvements to the game. Its sad that I could commit multiple 8-10 hour sessions to trying to buy a plot and still not have one.

Same. Somebody else is always better at clicking. And if you leave your computer to go eat for 15 minutes it always gets sold

So... ive loved almost every minute in game thus far. Even including the annoying moments i have to play with other people. But... heartfelt, aside a few quests in Kugane, ive hated every minute so far in stormblood. I dont know why they decided vashjr was a template to copy (in a universe with invisible walls) but they did. This expansion HATES exploring (so far) until you unlock the relevant msq. If you do this, msq is so important. If the msq hasnt unlocked something, dont explore for the sake of it. The invisible checks only come down once you hit an msq benchmark. This is super bad streamlining. I really hope they changed course. I know this expansion is a tale of two halves, but right now, its genuinely awful, and im literally struggling to push through it.

So far, the story and cinematics. You feel much more involved in the game, imo.

The inventory management. The game is incredibly frustrating when you start leveling up more and more jobs because you're going to want to keep gear so that you can try out different glamour sets and such plus the armor sets you'll need for actual performance. You also can't send items to your alts through the mail. Plus, soloing in this game is harder than it is in other MMOs I've played with a lot of level 60 content being unsoloable by everyone except a few select classes. So you'll want to keep any old gear you get by doing the raids and such because refarming it will be a pain in the ass. This results in you having to hoard items which bloats your inventory.

Want to fix this problem? Pay them an extra 2 dollars per month for 180 inventory slots. It's so fucking greedy. I can definitely be a hoarder in MMOs but I never had inventory problems like this in WoW.

The FF team tends to monetize their playerbase quite a bit more than even WoW does, but the playerbase (including myself) is generally okay with it, because the game is really good and the items you can obtain in game are high quality, so it doesn't feel like they're selling higher quality items than what you can get in game, just different items unlike WoW where the store mounts have like special effects and shit. But this aspect of the game I find to be pretty unacceptable. I pay 21 dollars a month for the game because of this and I still have inventory problems. They say they can't add a system like WoW's appearances or they can't expand the inventory space because of server problems, which I'm sure if no easy task, but they're also incentivized not to fix it because doing so will likely lose them money.

TLDR: Game is great, but the inventory management in the game is infuriating to me.

This game probably has the worst inventory and banking system I've ever seen. That's probably the only negative I have with the game.

I agree. I wish we had two armor inventories, one for stuff you use and one for crap you pick up along the way
