It comes down to the same thing.

It's the road that its destiny was always going to go down. Youtube is the model you kind of have to look at to see exactly how it will go. At first youtube was like random cat videos, friends and family stuff, and not a whole lot else. Then money got involved and people started productions and most of them were reasonable. Then the "wild west" phase went into play and people promoting teenage after school fights and how to roofie your date videos appeared because hey, it attracted eyes and traffic, so money flowed. Eventually the money behind the whole thing realized holy shit.. we are putting our brands on how to roofie your date and underaged violence and started pulling the plug on the cash. So then Youtube had to decide keep pulling in nickel and dimes from all these videos that were making them money but weren't multimillion/billion dollar deals the advertises had potential in and thus they pulled the plug on the risky shit. Advertisers saw the crack down on the stuff they didn't want their brands on and the money flowed although in a much more censored and controlled platform.

Twitch right now is still in that stage where it is happy to take those nickel and dimes from everyone because it is making them money. So like the "wild west" phase from above. Eventually the people behind the money will get sick of seeing their brands on whatever the new "hot tub meta" is and start pulling ads. At that point Twitch will band the shit out of all of that and the platform will become much more censored and controlled. This is good in a lot of ways. Bad in many others. So for now they will ride the line so they can double dip on big ads and from kind of risky content until the bigger money, ads, tells them to do something about it or fuck off and then it will be fucked off.

Either way it just means the eventual rise of the next "fresh" media platform that will start from the beginning again by being "back to the roots" and "about" whatever it is about until the feet get on the road again and the cycle continues once again.

I really liked watching sodapoppin and reckful's japan trip some years ago when IRL streaming was still new. It was so much fun. Sad what happened to the category since then.

What credibility did it have anyway? Aside from official tournament streams and a few gamers streams it's just videochat with some games in the background.

Twitch has become a weird place with more and more absurd rules and others trying to circumvent the rules in funny ways. Very similar to YouTube.

It's been years and years since Twitch was about gaming in particular. It is the easiest platform stream on, most known and therefore they expanded their audience to be a more general one, rather than "gaming only" to get more revenue.
Also, just because "Just Chatting" is the top category, doesn't mean people don't play anymore. The vast majority of streamers i know, start in Just Chatting, getting a bit warmed up, talk a bit to the viewer and change to gaming afterwards and might go back to Just Chatting inbetween games or if a particular (whatever that may be) topic was brought up that the streamer and chat feel like deserves the sole spotlight.

I think you are judging video game industry based on one or two mainstream games that you play, there are plenty of other amazing games out there, time to pop your bubble and see the world.

Twitch doesn't have near as much corporate sponsorship as YouTube does I don't think. And frankly, they pull in more than enough revenue to keep the site running and expanding. The problem they have is that the management at Twitch are all idiots and there's too many voices that won't take control of things and set some standards for conduct on the site that aren't vague. Frankly they need someone with some balls to step in and take the reigns and get control of what is going to be allowed on the platform, who is going to be allowed to view the content and make clear lines as to what the boundaries are going to be.

But their management also understands that if they regulate the content, the revenue will tank with it. At some point Twitch will draw the ire of the US Congress or Senate and then they'll have to change their rules and become more hardline.

I'm curious how the recommended channels work. Cause I will occasionally incognito so my "categories we think you'll like" isn't cluttered with a bunch of shit I'll never play or watch and in 5 times 3 of them had Amoruanth at the top of the recommended even though she had like 15k people watching her pool party and there were like cod channels and stuff recommended with 20-30k viewers. And right now there is a 8k valorant channel as the top recommended while there is a slots, dude just chatting, and cod channel recommended with 20k viewers being recommended as well.

The top most viewed "game" on Twitch is 'Just Chatting'... so, not a game. The platform has basically become a test of who has the most real life skills (confidence, charisma, bewbs) rather than in-game skills... The top 1% streamers are so detached from the norm that it's like real-life capitalism. Okay, it is real-life capitalism. The top 1% are making millions, while most of the streamers are not even getting a 10th of that viewership. Celebrities start up Twitch and get an instant 1k viewers, while hard-working people streaming for months are struggling to break 20 viewers.

Has Twitch become a microcosm of everything wrong with gaming today?
Fuck streaming mainstream. They should spotlight only shit nobody wants to see. When your stream breaks 10 viewers, you're out.

Was it ever credible? Whenever I look at Twitch chats it's always kids and manchildren overreacting at stuff and throwing their money at people playing games, with the most successful streamers adapting to that market. Obviously said market also likes tiddies and thus it's hardly a surprise that there's a plentiful supply of said tiddies when all the tools to throw money at them instead are already there.

Hell at its inception Onlyfans wasn't intended to be the barely glorified pornhub alternative it is. But it so happens that tiddies is what people pay for, and thus what was attracted there.

Not yet. But you got to ask yourself.. is more sponsorship more money? Does Twitch want more money?

Their was a time when Youtube had next to none as well.

Gaming won't be mainstream until parents are helicoptering over little Johnny lecturing him on how he should be able to make Mario jump that gap perfectly every time and why does Suzy across the street do it better? Not until parents are collecting video game trophies their kids won and bragging about them to other parents. Not until parents use bumper stickers like "my kid beat Super Mario in 2 days".

This will also be the time kids start launching their PCs and consoles out of their window and find something else to do. And parents start wondering why kids don't have the same passion for video games they did as a kid.
TO FIX WOW:1. smaller server sizes & server-only LFG awarding satchels, so elite players help others. 2. "helper builds" with loom powers - talent trees so elite players cast buffs on low level players XP gain, HP/mana, regen, damage, etc. 3. "helper ilvl" scoring how much you help others. 4. observer games like in SC to watch/chat (like twitch but with MORE DETAILS & inside the wow UI) 5. guild leagues to compete with rival guilds for progression (with observer mode).6. jackpot world mobs.

Twitch is not just about games streaming. Hence the non-gaming categories. This really just comes across as being angry that people like things that you don't like. There's a couple gaming streamers I watch occasionally, but I've used Twitch more lately listening to musicians than gaming-related stuff, honestly.

Its not just Twitch thotts making it worse, and I have said for a long time now that Twitch is garbage with how its being handled, but also the fing Simps.

    The simps are just garbage.

I much prefer the old days of Twitch where streamers didn't have to put too much of an act and were allowed to do way more without the risk of getting banned. They don't even let you play licensed music anymore because of some outdated rule made by grampas. Yet its okay to become a Pornhub Lite with the bath tub streams milking all the simps and organise gambling.

DMCA rules are bullshit, that's why music is banned from being played on Twitch. I wonder how the copyright system would react if I started streaming myself playing my guitar or my EWI to backing tracks and transcribed music. There'd be no lyrics, but the rest of the music would be there. Because none of that would be playing copyrighted music, it's all interpretation.

yesterday, before playing ff, asmon started his stream as Just Chating with around 80k viewers. That's the thing, we don't know cause you didn't put a time for context
