    Gamers gone right-wing?

Now that gamers have jobs and gotten older, do they tend to steer more to the right? Or is the anti-social justice movement in gaming by centrists too, which is as far left as you get with the States. I miss when the States weren't the dominant force in gaming. Asia appealed the nerds in all of us and didn't shove gun culture and patriotism and other bullshit down our throat.

It's gotten to the point where I don't really want to game anymore, as gamers are right-winged now... though the devs they unwittingly support are, like our teachers and professors, on the left.

A lot of BS from the OP to the point I thought this was Tsugunai. Or do you also think the comic book industry is full of "SJW pansies"?

    Wtf are you on about?

I'm criticizing gamers who criticize social justice.

There's no truth to the myth that people get more conservative as they age. I imagine what you're noticing is either that you're playing games that right-wingers tend to flock to, or that you're just hearing the loudmouths, who always seem way more prevalent than they actually are.

Also, gaming has gotten more mainstream, possibly attracting more people (some of them conservative) to them.

People of all political leanings have been gaming for decades. The people I game with tend to be pretty left leaning though. There’s one or two conservatives, but since we rarely talk politics when gaming(which is supposed to be an escape from such things) it’s not like it’s a big issue.

I'm sure all leaning people gamed, but I'm talking about the majority. I feel like conservatives have the majority now.

I see a lot of right-wing trolls on battlefield servers but that's the only place I see that kind of thing on a regular basis. I've been playing a lot of NBA 2k21 and online poker recently. I see a lot cryptocurrency talk on poker Twitter which tend to attract the libertarians to the conversation but rarely encounter anything political in either games.
Populists (and "national socialists") look at the supposedly secret deals that run the world "behind the scenes". Child's play. Except that childishness is sinister in adults.

They don’t. You just focus on them more and, thus, believe they are. Are you sure you aren’t confusing edgy kids for conservatives?

I think the idea that video games were ever primarily for children has always been wrong.
If you want to go back to the very beginning PCs (or what passed for them) were rare and expensive tech that was primarily the domain of eccentric nerds, Even in the 90s (at least in Australia) the primary age bracket of PlayStation owners was later twenties to early 30s.
Sure there are more people around who have grown up with video games now as they have been finally been around long enough for people to grow up with them.

Also 'asia' (lets be real Japan) has such a wildly different culture to the west I don't think it's worth comparing the politics of their games to our culture. In some respects, they were infinitely more progressive but they're also even to this day still pretty 'conservative' when it comes to certain topics.
Tonight for me is a special day. I want to go outside of the house of the girl I like with a gasoline barrel and write her name on the road and set it on fire and tell her to get out too see it (is this illegal)?

there is a joke to be made here
"Law and Order", lots of places have had that, Russia, North Korea, Saddam's Iraq.
Laws can be made to enforce order of cruelty and brutality.
Equality and Justice, that is how you have peace and a society that benefits all.

The default assumption is that if someone is woman-hating/racist/etc... then they are a right winger/Trump supporter. So I guess certain segments of the gaming community can seem right wing.

    The hell...?

I've no idea where you got all of this from, but I think the main question I got from this weird nonsense is this:

Why would other people's political leanings have any effect on your enjoyment of games and gaming?

No worries, I'm sure there are some leftist game developers and gamers that you can connect with. There is room for everyone and there should be something for everyone, imo.

Okay but any claim of that nature would be meaningless because it would imply a purely correlation-based argument since there's no causal connection between age/ageing and political orientation. Not to mention any statistics on a topic like that would only be able to give you information that relates to a certain context in a certain era.

The first step to identifying causal relationships is identifying correlations. No correlation, no connection. Which you'd know, if you had any training in statistical methodologies.

Gaming isn't political. And I reject any attempt to politicise gaming beyond obvious outliers like a game about killing Jews etc. Which sadly did exist back in the day. If you find yourself among "right wing gamers", you should probably take a hard look at yourself rather than gaming.

Ask yourself "Are movie-goers becoming more right wing?" or "Are book readers becoming more right wing?" and you will realise how stupid the premise is.

It’s not stupid, right-wing culture of capitalism is why I prefer to watch anime over Murican tv/film.

It strikes me that, among politically “motivated” trolls the more angry, lonely and frustrated individuals in gaming are angry, frustrated and lonely because they’re conservative and therefore lash out as trolls.

And it’s not necessarily that these people are more prevalent, it’s just that they’re louder and more ornery.

To the OP, while I haven’t played much online for the past 6 months since I let my WoW Classic subscription die, I am 40 years old as of June and been playing online since the 90s and the days of Quake 2 and Tetrinet.

During the old days, politics wasn’t a part of it at all and wasn’t even brought up, but also, you didn’t have active voice or social chat back then.

Since the recent times where politics has become a part of everything which started around the time we had a half black man become president which turned the Republicans into seething closet racists and the extremes they pushed both in the chambers and the lies outside of it made things get pushed to the front. And even then, most of those who actively discussed things were against their actions and those who supported it remained silent until Trump took office and they thought that their ignorance was facts and their feelings reality. But even during the height of it, they were the minority even then as the majority who actually supported those views lacked the desire to play those types of social games.

When I stopped online games mostly around December, during the height of the Trumper troopers attacks on reality, the conservatives were still largely in the minority online for games I played. Maybe the congregate in the Call of Duty games or something where it’s all about you and your twitch reflexes are the most important things but when it came to group games, I didn’t largely see them.
Since we can't call out Trolls and Bad Faith posters and the Ignore function doesn't actually ignore it. Add
    "mmo-champion.com##li.postbitignored"
to your ublock or adblock filter to actually ignore ignored posters. Now just need a way to ignore responses to them as well.
