I absolutely loved this new episode with Strange. My favorite by far, even though I also really enjoyed the other episodes as well. I've had some issues with the pacing in other episodes, with feeling too bloated and hasty. But this one was just perfect for me. The story, the visuals, the pacing, were all amazing. More than others, I felt like this episode could stand on its own, while others relied more on the established MCU movies.

No, I think the absolute point is the thing that needs to happen for Strange to go become a sorcerer. In the MCU so far that was Dr. Strange breaking his hands. Imagine if instead of moving on at some point during his studies he had just decided to use the Timestone to stop the accident from happening... it would result in the same thing. (At least that's how I understood it)
In this universe, Dr. Palmer doesn't turn down his invitation and he has her with him, so even if he broke his hands, he'd still have his love for her, which might stabilize him enough to 'move on' and look maybe for some other scientific/medical field to apply his genius to, stopping him from becoming a sorcerer. So in this universe, his love for her is the thing that needs to go in order for him to become a sorcerer instead of his hands.

The Nexus event that creates this universe is Dr. Palmer deciding to go with him instead of turning him down (which she did in the MCU main timeline) and each timeline simply has one condition set: he must be desperate enough to go become a sorcerer. The thing that causes his desperation is the abolute point of that specific timeline. In the MCU his hands breaking, in this timeline Dr. Palmer dying.

At least that's my theory.

So just rewatched the trailer and we’re definitely getting a zombie episode and a Stark-Killmonger episode. Then during the flashes pretty sure I saw the Hulk surrounded by enemies, bunch of Iron Man suits flying towards a casino-ish building, Dr Strange meeting Captain Carter, Vision ripping out his stone and the GotG replacing the Avengers from the first movie. There was also a pillar of fire scene… and Thor was mixed in there too but not the 3rd episode Thor

That one was amazing! Compared to the other episodes so far that one blew them away. The first two I thought were pretty lame, especially tchalla as starlord one, glad they aren't all that bad. This one was a modern day example of a romantic tragedy, shakespearean.

It was definitely the best episode of the series thus far.

The first 3 all had either happy or hopeful endings, while this one definitely did not.

And now they've fucked up the MCU's version of time travel again.

How so? What is to say that in this universe the same rules apply? Or do we even know how Strange's time forwarding and backing relate to Khan's machinations? Perhaps each time he uses the Eye he splits of - but then again it might be intended by Khan, so its within the sacred timeline? Time travel is complicated!

yeah that's the sad part about this one, there is no iteration in this universe that has Palmer survive

Best episode so far, I felt the earlier episodes didn't have enough time to do the story justice and would have been better with another 10-15 minutes to flesh it.

This week the pacing was far better and it felt like a complete What If story.

Hmmm... I see. So the accident is the absolute point but the variation before and after the accident are subject to turning into a Nexus event.


That's what didn't add up to me. It seemed Palmer's death was the absolute point. Except it couldn't really be that absolute, because it doesn't happen in the main timeline. So I thought it would be a fixed point relative to this new timeline. And thus I considered that the only fixed point of an alternate timeline is its Nexus event.

You're missing the point. The ancient one explains it straight away. He can't escape her death because that is what leads him to study the mystic arts, which leads him to the eye and time travel. If she doesn't die, he never would have gone back in time in the first place. She needs to die, which is why the ancient one lists it as an absolute event that can't be changed no matter what.
