What other races could potential become Elune followers?

It is a bit odd that a goddess like Elune who once was worshipped across all Azeroth is only restricted seemingly to the night elves.

Now we knownElune is far from night elf exclusive and is much bigger than belonging to one race, what other races do you reckon can have either a group of followers turn to Elune or the entire race worship her?

In theory I guess every race can, but who’d be the most likely candidates outside Night elves?

    IMO
    1. Nightborne - practically night elves themselves, and they love Elune worship according to occuleth - I can see the entire race having Elune as its main religion though not a religious race, I can see this being their main religion

    2. Worgen ? - I can see some worgen turning to Wlune, but not all. Stronger amongst the Druid Worgen, but Elune religion was never mandatory for Druidism.

3, Void elves - no indication of Elune interest directly, but her void dark side of the moon phase, the night warrior ritual would interest them greatly, and they are elves. I can at least see the void elf priests returning to Elune

Events of Shadoelands could produce more followers off course from every race however.

    1. Blood elves - may seem likely because they are elves. But they hate the night elves, but then they love Nightborne

    2. Tauren may seem likely candidates because of the night elf Druid connection. But they are full on An’she so that is very unlikely

    3. Trolls. Night elves were once these, but they are full on Loa. Not Elune. Could some trolls come to worship her? Maybe after Shadowlands but Trolls are not a multi religious people - I say that , but we do have troll cultists, so who knows.

    4. Humans - well we already did Gilneans. Humans are known to worship many things. It’s possible, but so far no sign or interest in the slightest.

There is another option, maybe Elune is worshipped by many races and actually has many names. It’s possible the moon is just the night elves’ symbol for her because of their starlight stars and moon fascination and so used the moon for her.

But others use other names. Is she even exclusively female? I would think that true deities are above gender. And the gender, like the symbol is something a race would attribute.

But then Warcraft defines her as female.

The Ren'dorei originally worshipped the Sun like all Thalassians, however now they consider themselves cut off from the Light of the Sunwell (one of their irritated quotes is "Remember the Sunwell? Please. I'm so over it."), which means that some of them could go back to worshipping Elune, as they did before the Sundering. They renounce the Light of the Sunwell and they are cut off from it permanently.

But even from an aesthetic and thematic standpoint it would make perfect sense. Where do the Ren'dorei live? Amongst the stars. Where do the followers of Elune draw their powers from? The stars.

There is also another thematic connection which is more subtle. The leader of the Ren'dorei, Alleria Windrunner, devoured the essence of a Void Naaru. How does this tie to Elune? If you paid attention to Legion, you know that the core of Xe'ra was unlocked by the TEARS OF ELUNE and Khadgar even theorized that Elune created the Naaru. And so you can see that there is a clear link between the Ren'dorei, led by someone infused with the essence of a Naaru, and Elune.

So in truth it would make sense if some Ren'dorei decided to worship Elune, it simply makes sense. But for example I don't think Magister Umbric or the various Void warlocks and Void mages would care about religion, they are mostly focused on studying and researching the Void.

And while we're on this subject, if "Night Warrior" ever became a playable class then Night elves, Void elves, and Worgen should undoubtedly be able to become Night Warriors.

The Void. A force of infinite hunger. Its whispers have broken the will of dragons... and lured even the titans' own children into madness. Sages and scholars fear the Void. But we understand a truth they do not. That the Void is a power to be harnessed... to be bent by a will strong enough to command it. The Void has shaped us... changed us. But you will become its master. Wield the shadows as a weapon to save our world... and defend the Alliance!

We know Elune isn't exclusive because other planets had Night Warriors, it's part of that whole storyline.
Worgen and Tauren already have worshipers of Elune, if in their own way or indirectly.

Anyway, some reasoning on how Elune worship could work into other races:

    Humans
    - Follow all sorts of random cults and have all sorts of rogue organizations. Humans tend to make and follow religions as necessity demands it.
    - Druidism could develop to help grow crops, especially in struggling areas like Westfall where there are many transients and starving people in need of food.
    - Stormwind also has to now help feed all the Night Elf refugees, who are also in need of food which Druidism could help alleviate.
    - Humans have a capacity for mastering magic quickly, and would be fast learners.

    Dwarves
    - Having ancient ties to the Earthen, their heritage of molding the world and shaping it is ancient and is in their blood.
    - The Dwarves have long ties to The Mountain and Aeries and deep places of the earth, a deep connection to the land and its spirit.
    - The Dwarves can harness the spirits of their ancestors to take on an avatar of stone - an aspect that can increase their understanding of the spirit worlds like Ardenweald which can lead to an understanding of Druidism and even Elune.
    - Druidism was/is used to help heal Azeroth at the wound in Silithus, an effort led by Magni. Learning Druidism would be to the betterment of healing Azeroth.
    - Dwarves have taken on eagerly the religions of others in the past, including Light Worship from Humans and Shamanism from Dark Iron, so they're very open-minded.
    - The Wildhammer have been integrated into Dwarves proper with recent customizations, and Wildhammers have Druids.

    Gnomes
    - Gnomes by nature are bright and curious. They love experimenting with magic, exploring, and questioning the natural world and seek to understand it.
    - Many Gnomes venture out to live out on their own and have huts out in the middle of nowhere, effectively making them hermits among the natural world.
    - Gnomes take a keen interest in their own history, especially as it relates to Ulduar and The Titans. Connections to Keepers like Freya could increase their understanding of their origins by studying Druidism. Studying Elune and The Temple of Elune could increase their understanding of The Titans.
    - Gnomes are helpful, and love any excuse to help aid their allies and friends. If the means to help their allies can be found in Elune, they would use it.
    - The Gnomes have to a radical degree sought to cleanse Gnomeregan of irradiation. As druids, they could make some of nature's most dutiful protectors.

    Draenei
    - When they arrived, the Draenei attempted to heal the vale they damaged. They take an interest in maintaining order in the natural world.
    - The Draenei have a connection to the spiritual, even among other cultures and are open-minded. They quickly made friends with other Druidic societies like Night Elves and Furbolgs and respect their ways.
    - Velen has noted similarities between Elune and The Light before. Worshiping Elune could be considered worshiping The Light.
    - "The Light is in all things." All beasts, all trees - everything. Worshiping Elune could be to worship The Light, by proxy.
    - With the defeat of Kil'jaeden and Sargeras, the Draenei can now turn their pursuits to helping their allies and learning their ways, such as with Elune.

    Orcs, &/or Mag'har
    - There were/are already those who worship the stars among The Shadowmoon clan.
    - Orcs originate from a planet with a strong amount of Life energy, they are attuned to such energies.
    - Orcs easily develop a primal and natural connection to any world they come to, and share kinship with many animals.
    - The Frostwolves as a clan takes a lot of inspiration and kinship with wolves, and wolves have an established relationship with the moon.
    - There are many seers and mystics among orc culture, those who reach out to understand and learn more through visions.

    Trolls & Zandalari
    - Trolls revere all sorts of Loa, and seem to have a god for everything. Elune, or rather The Moon, could be seen as a kind of Loa. They may need their own interpretation, though. Elune was said to live in The Well of Eternity, where their old kin used to reside. With old records, the Trolls and Zandalari could learn of an ancient and powerful Loa from this old place of power and come to revere it and however the old Trolls wrote they saw it as.
    - Trolls and Zandalari already have Druids, so their understanding and connection to Elune just needs a slight push. A vision, perhaps through ritual and meditation... or voodoo.

    Undead
    - Undead have a strong animal connection to spiders, and a strong natural affinity with fungi.
    - Undead long resided in Tirisfal, a place that even when the sky shone in the sky seemed to be blanketed in perpetual night.
    - Mysterious faerie circles bring on mysterious rituals that happen regularly in the vale of Tirisfal. Such a place of power seems significant to Druids somehow. The circle of mushrooms seems to imply that fungi seem to have some kind of relationship to Druidism and thus Elune. Forsaken could come to understand and revere Elune through studying these mysterious faerie circle rituals.

    Goblin
    - Goblins can be payed to worship anything. Their morals are very flexible.
    - Goblins often use other religions as kinds of ponzi-schemes. Elune could be no different.
    - They could use Druidism as a business venture: selling trees, growing crops, etc.
    - Faith in Elune could develop as a kind of money-making cult.
    - Goblins could see Elune or The Moon as a symbol for silver: like money.
    - Goblins could try to barter or make deals with Elune - doing her bidding in exchange for riches.
    - "Worshiping Elune? It's just good business!"

    Pandaren
    - Druids were necessary to help heal Shen-zin Su. Learning Druidism and revering Elune should be seen as a necessity in case their island and way of life is ever threatened again. They need a way to heal Shen-zin Su if something ever happens to it again.
    - The Pandaren are upholders of balance in the natural world, making it part of their life to fight off forces of evil that would corrupt them and it -- such as The Sha or The Mantid. As keepers of such balance, their duties are ancient and long in harmony with the natural world.
    - The Pandaren are already masters of their own natural spirit energy, Chi, and so would make quick adepts for Druidism. They already revere Wild Gods like the August Celestials -- Elune could in turn be viewed as another Celestial to the Pandaren.
    - Pandaren make great farmers, and already cultivate great and high-yielding crops from the waters that flowed from waters originally tied to the Well of Eternity -- where Elune was said to rest. This means Pandaren farmers inherently have some tie to Elune not just in keeping with their crops, but also the very waters that fuel them.

    Vulpera
    - As resourceful nomads, it would stand to reason that the Vulpera would need to be great cartographers of the night sky, sun, and moon.
    - The night sky would be one of the few things to look up at and wonder, to capture the imagination of their people, out in the sands.
    - Some Vulpera work as pirates among Kul Tiran, with a lot of Vulpera turning to trade for work as well. Due to the Druidic teachings of Kul Tiras, it stands to reason that Vulpera could one day learn druidism through trade, piracy, or scavenging among the Kul Tiran as pirates.
    - As pirates, Vulpera would also perhaps find cartography useful in this regards, so perhaps faith in Elune could rise not only as a useful tool against the Faithless, but also to help chart their way on the open sea as pirates. Through this, they could learn to study and understand Elune.

I think Nightborne do already worship Elune, is just that it isn't a big part of their modern culture, but it's still there.

We know of a sect of Zandalari trolls that worship Elune.

Otherwise, all races already have their set religious, is hard to believe Elune worship could take hold for races with an already established spirituality, but I think that for Worgen and how big Elune and druidism impacted their curse, and their time in Teldrassil, it's very likely that Elune Worship could have become big enough to become a recognizable religion in their society.

I could see the Void Elves become interested on the power of Elune, but they do seem like the very non secular kind overall, even their usage of the void is framed as a scholastic pursue, not like Void Priests; but if a sect of them were to become religious, I can't deny that the whole Void as "The Dark Side of the Moon" is a very, very interesting angle.

Otherwise, I don't think any race would have significant Elune cults, but individuals? Most races for sure.

I wonder why would you worship a Goddess (?) that went silent and whenever you need her she just puts her plug out

Isn't it like, idk, more efficient to even worship Light/naaru? At least the power won't disappear suddenly when you need it most

    Or even go Fel.

still dont really know what elune is, for all we know next xpac might be on the moon with elune being a big helper or even an enemy and the new class could be using moon powers for everyone.
im not expecting that and i hated writing that but i honestly wouldnt even be surprised.

    From the playable races? none

only maybe trolls by thinking she is another Loa.

The zandalari actually worship here already in a very minor scale.

They're not. Tauren worship the Earth Mother, and consider An'she and Mu'sha to be her right and left eye respectively.

    Mu'sha is Elune.

    The Zandalari Lun'alai already do

Hopefully they see how wrong they are to worship a goddess that will leave you in your time of need

Sounded more like a plausible reason why these races can pick up Druidism.

But Elune is t a nature goddess at all. Eluni and Druidism are very different. But druids do utilise some arcane spells tied traditional to Elune, but that’s more from the night elf arcane connection and knowledge.

Surely other races coming into Elune won’t be nature based - that would be for Druidism.

Coming to Elune would be based on people following her creed and the beliefs of the order of Elune and would be focused on the stars and moon rather Druidism.

Basically you don’t have to have Druidism involved at all to connect to Elune. In fact only nightbelf Druidism connects the two presumably because some of Cenarius’ spells extend beyond nature because of his mother and the night elves connected to Elune via the Well of Eternity. So there is synergy between Druidism, the arcane and Elune for night elves.

Because that is how blizzard presented them, this Elune, arcane , nature mix.

The same won’t hold for other races. They won’t need nature or Druidism to connect to Elune.

Blizzard never tied Elune, more a dark elf aspect, to Druidism implicitly. Cenarius mentions how Tyrande had a very different path and won’t teach her, same with Illidan.

I’m very curious about them connecting void elves and night elves through the whole star thing and void.

Like they explore different aspects. The night elves focusing on the light of the stars and moon with the void elves on the void in between that taps into the twisting nether.

Like in the post, the night of the night elves is the night of the great beyond I.e space, they seem to harness the night for shadows as well as the arcane light of the stars and moon.

But their night magic taps into the void too as the night warrior shows, and at some point space meets the twisting nether where the void is strong.

In theory there should be a connection and you could see a sect of both priests and astromancer Highborne mages exploring this both philosophically and scientifically. The mages of the void elves and Highborne would be doing the scientific exploration, but the priests would take it to a spiritual dimension.

But then who is to say the priesthood won’t have magical scholars too. It’s not like the catholic chufch doesn’t have scientists and engineers too that are fully ordained and believing priests too.
Can easily see the Order of Elune have elves whose focus is not only centred on religious doctrine. I mean aren’t the wardens and sentinels proof that there is more to the order of Elune than a religious statutes

Yes. I’m curious about the void elf connection. And surely at least some Worgen will follow Elune. It was both Elune and Druidism that saved them and some Worgen are with the sentinels.

I agree I don't think druidism is strictly necessary (it kindof goes without saying) - I mean literally speaking you only need faith. But just saying, "well, all races have free will, so anyone can decide to just believe if they decide to," or "just believe in Elune, forehead," kind of just shuts the discussion down. All races can believe in Elune if they decide to. Stow a book away, worship in secret. No different from any of the other dark cults people worship in secret that would also be taboo. For an example, there was a troll in one of the comics I believe who started following The Light like, in the vicinity of the Scarlet Monastery. Kind of a radical example, right? These things happen in lore all the time. Cult of the Damned, Twilight Hammer, etc.

Obviously all races have free will. They all have the capacity to just decide to believe. But if we're talking about a greater cultural shift rather than just allowing players to just make what they want, that's a bit different. Because having Humans or Draenei move over to worshiping Elune instead of The Light is kind of a big ask, for example -- but it'd be more reasonable in this case to say that as examples, they can worship Elune via The Light in a way or to respect and accept all religions as if they all fall under the umbrella of The Light. That kind of mentality makes more sense for those peoples I think, as examples.

If you're asking what I think is realistic for which races to believe, I think Orcs and Vulpera show the highest chance because there's already a degree of established star and moon gazing, or necessary star and moon watching that would be in the culture believably. And if we're just talking about, "The Moon, period," then Dwarves and Gnomes have some history and ancestry involved with The Titans and Azeroth in how it relates to Elune which would make them curious. They should be trying to dig up secrets about The Moon, they should be trying to learn about Elune to understand their connection to The Titans better. That makes sense for them. Trolls and Pandaren have legacy with the Well of Eternity and the waters, so having them go, "oh, I guess we did believe in Elune before, look at these old scrolls," or, "a goddess used to bless these waters, which we have relied on for centuries -- we need to thank them!" these kinds of stances make sense for them as well. Other races like Undead and Goblin, I think are less strong. They don't really have much if any connection to the moon or stars really -- though if we're just asking for potential again we can just go, "well, Goblins will believe in anything for the right price, forehead." But if we go down that road everyone should have it. And, yeah, maybe they all should. Restrictions on things like religion in the setting are kind of stupid, anyway.

But to speak on Druidism for a bit again, as guardians of the natural world, and the greater cosmos at large, I think it makes sense as a kind of gate-way. Sure it isn't necessary. But it's cool. And it allows for a lot of other believable avenues that better speak to all the race's motivations which can help make skeptics more accepting if the connections are more believable. Druidism isn't necessary, but I think it sells it better.

Plus, then I think if races are established with Elune worship and they DON'T have Druids, that kind of opens up cans of criticism, like, "oh, some of the few races that believe in Elune, but they can't be Balance Druids, what gives?" Like, that's a pretty negative experience there. Like, I think it just makes sense if the faith is there that Druids are either a gateway in, or follow as a result. It just seems pretty natural as pairing consequence. The task of guarding the mortal world an even the cosmos has fallen on all races lately with things like the sword stabbing the world. It doesn't make a lot of sense now that these mantles wouldn't be taken up, anyway.

this really; for all we know even night elves might stop worshiping her at this point, could see at least Tyrande going rogue now, and yeah- we don't really know nature of Elune, not even her own high priestess ;]
hard to say anything certain about whole warcraft universe, its a mess.

only maybe trolls by thinking she is another Loa.

The zandalari actually worship here already in a very minor scale.
    Trolls aren’t that stupid.

Elune has nothing to do with Loa’s the dwarves are more likely to worship Elune because of the Titan connection.

The night elves discover Elune through their study of the Well of Eternity and the Titan language they pick up which influences Darnassian.

Why would the trolls think of an arcane based moon/ star goddess centred being that has no parallels with their culture nor their faiths?

Trolls who come to Elune would be like trolls who go to the twilight cult. It’s not based on Loa at all, but a new religion they want to follow for her power

So what races do you feel will most likely connect with her or be open to her?

    I’m thinking races who
    1. Love or have some cosmos connection with stars, moon, space
    2. Races who have a similar ethical and moral code or willing to adapt
    3. Heavy arcane loving or void interested races who are prepared to be good rather than evil.
    4. Races where females are at least as prominent as males or are in leading roles too. Matriarchal ones might find Elune particularly interesting or worthy.

Not that they need any of these excuses, but these are the dominant aspects Elune connects to the night elves, it isn’t unreasonable to assume those with similar passions or who would develop similar interests might be influenced.

Also maybe those who really like night elves. But outside Nightborne who are practically night elves themselves no race has been shown to really like night elves.

I’d say night elves are the least loved of the playable races alongside forsaken.

what that even mean? ELune is a loa in zandalari religion, Lunara or whatever, and probably is for other trolls and that is why night elves worship her, since they were trolls, her worship is more likely coming from their troll linage.

Dwarves worshiping something? come on, that is just absurd

There are some Dwarves who worship the Titans as if they were gods. While the non-canonical RPG books actually had a Dwarven religion called the Mystery of the Makers, there is still an adherent of Titan worship in Day of the Dragon, making Dwarven worship of the Titans canonical, though we don't really know to what extent.

Durgan One-God in Traveler also worships Eonar, believing her to be the one true goddess in the universe.

"We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see." ― Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

That is something so shady that i could not possible know, thanks for the info

while i understand why some of then would worship titans, cause they are literaly their makers, in wow as far im aware, their "religion" is just the light/shamanism to an extent, i doubt they would go over elune, if she is not even a titan(yet)

Well, besides races that already are connected openly like Nelfs, Worgen, Tauren, Moonkin, Dryads, Centaur, Arakkoa...

Among non-playable races there are connections via Ancients - Harpies, Furbolg, Gnolls, Wolvar, Quillboar, Gorlocs, Tuskarr, Tortollan
And those tied to the Well of Eternity, or its waters such as in Pandaria - Pandaren, Mogu, Jinyu, Hozen

Among playable races from most likely to least (that don't already revere openly), imo:

Most Likely (Being races with precedent for worship of some stars/moons/cosmos primarily)
    - Orcs & Mag'har (Shadowmoon clan star/moon/cosmos worship notably of The Pale Lady and utilizing of Bloodmoon via Dark Portal connections, void-interested, with many various matriarchies & sub-matriarchal figures with Geya'rah, Draka, Aggra, Greatmother Geyah, Garona, eventually Rehze, & Kaz the Shrieker)
    - Nightborne (Star Augur Etraeus demonstrates cultural interest in cosmos/stars/space, heavy arcane and shadow leaning, matriarchal via Thalyssra)
    - Blood Elves & Void Elves (High Astromancer Solarian demonstrates cultural interest in cosmos/stars/space, heavy arcane & shadow leaning, sub-matriarchal via Liadrin, matriarchal via Alleria)
    - Trolls & Zandalari (Apparently Elunara is already a figure as a non-loa to Zandalari, history of heavy adaption, arcane and shadow interest, Talanji seems influential to Darkspear leaders like Rokhan as being matriarchal or sub-matriarchal)

More Likely (Being races with similar interests, morals, codes, &/or greater magical affiliation)
    - Pandaren (Tranquil and interested in balance & self-defense, Celestials/Ancients have a light connection, Well of Eternity connection, helpful and willing to adapt for allies, matriarchy via Aysa & Lili)
    - Draenei & LF (Travelled space for thousands of years, Nelf allies & tranquil protectors, powerful in magic by race, Velen finds similarities to Elune with The Naaru, sub/full-matriarchy via Captain Fareeya) [against: Draenei didn't help the Night Elves closely in the Fourth War]
    - Dwarves & DI (Heavy interest in archaeology, ruins, and Titan related pursuits, history of heavy adaption, Earthen heritage makes them natural guardians and protectors, especially resistant to corruptive magics as a race and embrace holistic magics of other cultures like The Light, co/full-matriarchy via Moira)
    - Gnomes & Mecha (Heavy interest in Titan relations and their history, willing to adapt as helpful by nature, also curious by nature, many live as hermits in the wild, arcane and shadow inclined yet generally good)
    - Vulpera (Helpful to a fault to adapt and most malleable, arcane and shadow interested via scavenging and dark folktales, sub-Matriarchy with Nisha/Meerah)

Less Likely (Being races that could be motivated, or have some matriarchy or looser magical inclinations)
    - Goblins (Easily motivated with money to adapt, arcane and shadow interested, sub-Matriarchy with Boss Mida)
    - Forsaken (Arcane and shadow interested, heavy matriarchy history in Sylvanas/Calia/Voss, Cult of Forgotten Shadow leans to Light or Shadow when one is weaker)
    - Humans (Seem to embrace just about any cult, human potential for arcane & shadow mastery, Anduin compared Elune to The Light)
