Yes, plants/trees are not fundamental to human life with sufficiently advanced technology. That's in general though, its got nothing to do with Star Trek. Anything that can be created by life can also be created artificially because there's nothing magic about life and biological transformations. Artificial systems can do the same thing. I don't know why people always bring up random stuff in random threads instead of an appropriate thread though.

The timing of innovation can't be reliably predicted ahead of time, in principle. There can't be a method that predicts when new knowledge will be created.

Perhaps the first whispers of this tech will be developed for an international space station or in submarines. It'll be developed more as humans start thinking about sustaining a colony on the moon or Mars because we won't just pack up a forest and grow it on other planets or in spacecraft. At least not at first.

Plantlife isn't going away on Earth btw. In fact plantlife could go up over the decades, even though humans will need to manage it on some level because it could be a result of some plants going extinct where more aggressive or adapted plants spread into new areas.

That's when we'll have magic future tech to survive without the plantlife.

If a tech idea violates the laws of physics then yes it is magic(aka supernatural causation). However, if there is no violation then we can build it eventually if we want to or have any use for it.

I'm not sure what any of this has to do with the Trad topic though... I suppose one connection we could make is that hardcore environmentalists are also "Trad" proponents in their own way because they look at nature and the way it used to work in the past and they believe it was optimal and that humans mainly only screw it up. They believe catastrophic things will happen if we artificially alter our environments and our ways of life.

As long as the population is stable or growing slightly then I think there is no value in "tradwives" whatsoever. "Trad" in these cases usually just means "limit freedoms and self-determination". If the population starts shrinking though then I would say there is some flaw in non-Trad lifestyles that needs to be addressed.
