    Expansion Concept 10.0

This is my own personal take on how the next expansion could look like. This is NOT a leak, be it a fake or real one.

In my view, the next expansion will be centered on Azeroth, but will have cosmic forces 'invading' later on to subjugate the planet.

World of Warcraft: A New Dawn

At the end of Shadowlands after the defeat of the Jailer, we learn from the First Ones archives that Azeroth is truly special, created with an affinity to all the different cosmic forces, but should one of them take control of her, she would completely align with that force, destroying the balance and giving that dominating force control over the whole universe.
As the true defenders of Azeroth, we need all the forces we can muster as more invasions are surely to come, which leads to us needing to re-imbue the dragonflights with their powers.
Wrathion, who finally has found the Dragon Isles, leads us there.

    10.0
Launch continent and leveling zones will be the Dragon Isles; consisting of 6 zones, one for each dragonflight (green, red, bronze, blue & black) and one small Crystalsong Forest-like zone dedicated to the overarching Wyrmrest Accord reformed.

During questing we help the Green Dragonflight in the ascension of Merithra to their next aspect, as well as finally clearing the last remnants of the Nightmare out of the Rift of Aln during the ending-scenario.
The Red Dragonflight needs to come to terms with all of their offspring gone from the purging of their Sanctum at the hands of the Deathknights during Legion. The discovered Twilight eggs beneath Grim Batol will be essential and Alexstrasza in the end takes her warped 'children' back under her wings to give her dragonflight a future.
Wrathion discovers a small sect of black dragons in their respective zone and struggles to exert dominance and have them accept him as their new aspect. All his sassy-ness can't help him and he is truly forced to reflect on his actions of purging his own flight during Cataclysm and beyond.
The Blue Dragonflight has to contend with the remaining Twilight Cultists in the area, who draw upon the unearthed leylines and driven mad by the overwhelming arcane energies still think their Void masters will return; summoning in Void creatures in the fallen Titan facility of Uldorus.
The Bronze Dragonflight finds a barren wasteland instead of a place of rebirth with no hope of them recovering their lost powers, which finally leads to the fall of many and their transformation into the Infinite, including Nozdormu becoming Murozond.

Each of the 5 zones would have at least one dungeon at launch, with one additional dungeon in the shared zone.

The first raid of the expansion and concluding the starting experience will center around the Infinites with Murozond as the final boss, who rips holes into time and space, showing us a void-infested as well as a crystallized light-forged Azeroth.

    10.1
The first patch extends and then wraps up the other storylines of 10.0, delving into the underground of the Isles via the entrance in Uldorus, revealing a new zone of titanic construction that is completely Void-infested. As it reaches under every other zone, it is discovered that the true power of the zones that gives the dragonflights their powers back are of titanic origin. The pillar powering the Bronze is already destroyed and its power sucked into a huge void portal, which explains why their powersource on the surface wasn't available.

The raid of this patch deals with this exact problem, closing the portal and driving back the Voidlord that is trying to manifest through it.

    10.2
In the cinematic introducing this patch the Dark Portal will suddenly change color, turning golden and emitting melodic sounds. Shortly after Yrel arrives, accompanied by the new Prime Naaru and her Lightforged Army from AU Draenor.
The patch will deal with the revamped Western & Eastern Plaguelands, where the Scarlet Crusade has re-emerged after the fall of Lordaeron and its abandonment by the Forsaken. With the death of Tirion Fordring and the reformation of the Paladin Order Hall during Legion, the splintered remnants of the Argent Crusade have joined forces with the Scarlets, taking up residence in Hearthglen, Andorhal & rebuilding the farmlands into bastions of the Light, as well as cleansing the EPL and re-taking Stratholme as their capital.

The quest campaigns will be completely different for the Horde and the Alliance here.
Where the Horde and especially the Forsaken under the banner of Calia Menethil want to reclaim their former homeland, cleansing Tirisfal and drive the Scarlets out of their lands once and for all. The Alliance, still under command of the now High King Turalyon, wants to bring the newly-emerged faction of the Light into its own ranks instead of battling another enemy.

Both sides end in a victory, as the Horde is able to claim dominance over the Western Plaguelands and de-toxify Tirisfal. Whereas Turalyon and Yrel's Lightforged Army take over Stratholme, Yrel usurping their leadership and either lightforging every single one of them or outright killing those who refuse.
It escalates in the last chapter of the campaign when Yrel tries to lightforge Arathor, Alleria trying to save him but accidentally killing her own son.
This drives Alleria over the edge and she succumbs to the Void. Turalyon distances himself from his wife and throws her into a specially-crafted prison on the Vindicaar, which now hovers over Stratholme as well.

All this leads into the raid of this patch, where both sides attack and try to cleanse Stratholme of their new masters, including a fight against Turalyon to rescue Alleria, and ending in a confrontation with Yrel bolstered by the new Prime Naaru. In the end shortly before she is defeated, Yrel gives the command to make the Vindicaar flight-ready, and with the help of the Prime Naaru the spaceship with all heroes onboard transports through a giant light-infused portal to an unknown realm.

    10.3
The heroes of Azeroth are transported to the plane of Light, where they are imprisoned and have to fight back against an unbeatable, limitless force. They are not outright killed, however, but it turns out they are rather tested, if they can retain their own will after being lightforged and to be made into champions of the Light to wage war against the True Void. The Light still seeks a replacement for Illidan, the One who should have brought the endless war to an end.

The initiation and last rites and tests are the first half of the final raid, when the Void attacks the Light itself using the void-touched Alleria as a beacon, and in the ensuing chaos the heroes of Azeroth need to fight off everything and everyone.

In the end only with the help of Alleria they escape through a Void portal that leads back to Azeroth, but one that they don't recognize - An Azeroth that is the true rebirth of the Black Empire. Which then leads into the next expansion.

Congratulations, this is the opposite of what the game needs. Well done.

I, for instance, think that we're extremely tired saving universe from Sargeras-caliber adversaries, and being beacons of superpowers.

It would be good to feel a small part of the huge world once again (they could create some scenario, in which a powerful entity steals our lately lorewise-acquired godlike powers - azerite stuff, covenant stuff, etc.), and to deal, for example, with local Venture.Co thieves or some quillboars stealing groceries nearby.

What I would love to see in 10.0 is an Azeroth revamp with new graphics, overhauled zones, massive amount of world & adventuring content (comparable to a 1-60 Vanilla leveling). Not a "raid or die" or supervillain-fighting game anymore, and not a "steamroll through patch content in 3 days and wait for next expac" game either.

They should start taking the game to its RPG core. Half Blizz staff changed, and its the real opportunity to change the game as well.

    Couldn't agree more.

Also just because the stakes don't have to be of epic proportions, doesn't mean the scenery can't be. It's perfectly possible to have breathtaking zones where you're just solving minor problems.

It would be interesting (maybe the only interesting thing to come out of Shadowlands) to have the Jailer win, to a degree, and essentially reset the power level of beings across the cosmos. Maybe that Anduin "memory magic" could in some way wipe clean the memory of the Maw Walker and those who knew him/her. Return us to unknown adventurer status.

Subterranean Azeroth would be cool. Deepholme was a good start and can be the central node. But we can go further. A subterranean ocean for instance. The Undermine as the main capital. The origin of Quilboars and Kobolds. Maraudon not just being an instance but an entire utopic world where elementals live, where waterfalls and magma streams are neatly attuned and life flourishes in between it all. An obsidian empire below Silithus and Uldum, where the ancestors of the people corrupted by C'tun live. And sure, more Drust underneath the forests of Lordaeron, I think they're neat.

Having all kinds of underworlds and colourful, vibrant cave systems could also be the further development of Torghast's procedural content system.

All these subterranean zones have tunnels that lead all over Azeroth. Every continent, and it's all intertwined so each subterranean place can lead to random spots on the surface. These gateways become strategic bottlenecks that players will have to defend, or even compete over.

Yes indeed. That's the only way to salvage the Jailor. He's too underdeveloped to be a one-time baddy. And indeed if he fucks around with time and space then he could become a permanent threat that keeps recurring because he attacked the entire timeline all at once. He fought us past, future and present which means that we need to fight him on a weekly/daily basis to keep him at bay. We can't win, he can only lose one step at the time.

While I appreciate trying to tie the comic stuff back to Azeroth, I think most people in the community are just done with that sort of stuff for now. We need a simpler threat that takes place on Azeroth.

An idea I had was to make the threat more personal. Perhaps Gallywix holds a grudge against us for ruining his monopoly on horde Azerite mining and getting his ousted as trade prince. So he spends his fortune to hire a massive mercenary army to hunt is down and puts a ludicrously large bounty on our heads.

We're essentially no longer welcome in ordinary places since anyone could at any moment try to kill us and claim that bounty, not to mention the mercenaries who are actively hunting us. So we flee to the South Seas where we spend the expansion trying to rally the support of the Goblin Cartels before eventually defeating Gallywix.

There's no big cosmic threat here. The stakes are still high since our lives hang in the balance and we've become outcasts from our own homes, but we don't have any crazy cosmic things going on, no world ending threat, and we're back to doing more simple tasks to prove our worth to Goblins who care more about their bottom line than the number of times we've saved the world.

Honestly? I don't dislike most of this, but certainly the framing.

For example, this could start like a far more chill expansion, with us returning to a slightly changed Azeroth and having more day to day struggles on that initial patch, but with the looming presence of a threat underlining everything.

Whatever immediate threats we have at launch, and even the first patch, are more grounded, and it's only in the background that a major threat keeps rising and we have to deal with it on the last patch as the final boss.

For example, let's take the Light and Yrel. They return fairly early, maybe even at launch, but whether it's a good or a bad thing isn't immediately clear, and through the expansion we see her zealotry converting more and more people in Azeroth.

By the time we deal with the ground level thread on a satisfactory manner on the 10.2 patch, It's when Yrel/the Light show their true colors and become the outright enemy.

We would be here whole august if I were to list all the problems I would have with the game. But to just focus on this particular concept.

By far the complaint I read from people dissatisfied with the game is that it moved too far from what WarCraft was at its core. Here we have regular ass adventurers going through cosmic entities so fast Danuser can't retcon in new classes of beings fast enough. Even before we met Sargeras we learned he was afraid of the Void Lords, but while they still stay offscreen now we are introduced to the First Ones. And guess what they are still so far out of our scope that in cutscenes it is always the NPCs that do the things while we are....there.

The game and the players need orcs vs humans, undead vs humans, maybe orcs and humans vs undead, orcs and humans vs demons, or perhaps even orcs, humans and undead vs demons.

An expansion focusing on naga could have worked because 1) They have been part of Wacraft since TFT 2) They are connected to several well established lore character. 3) While Azshara is stupidly strong, most naga are just regular mobs we can and do encounter during our adventures.

As a basic premise BfA was pretty good as it tried to move back to all the classical themes in WarCraft. We had Horde vs Alliance, Everyone vs Naga, Everyone vs Undead Biatch, Everyone against one single Old God. We all know it didn't work because the writing was a mess, but it was at least a hundred percent warcraft.

A second problem with this expansion concept is that it is all over the place. Yes that is something Blizzard has been guilty of since Legion, but come on. It tried to shove in way too many things in. Dragon Isle, Void, World Revamp, Light Realm, AU Draenor. What we need is one fucking plotline that is written better than Rise of Skywalker. Let's not push our luck with half a dozen.

Like Pandaria before the Horde and Alliance forces arrived in the first patch?

I like the idea. Please for the love of god don't go back to us as normal adventurers. It'd be like going from Dr. Who adventures to Modern Family. I'd rather watch paint dry.

"Azeroth is truly special, created with an affinity to all the different cosmic forces, but should one of them take control of her, she would completely align with that force"

Yeah no thanks. I don't mind the idea of it being a Titan soul and a bunch of powers trying to tap into the power of Azeroth, or corrupt it, whatever. But just the idea that anyone who takes control automatically will have Azeroth align with them treats any budding Titans like robots with no self awareness or agency.

Sounds like Legion, like BFA and like Shadowlands, but with a diffrent setting.
    Sounds boring

I wish we would get something new, not cosmic level, preferrably on Azeroth, but without Void, Yrel etc.,

Oof, my ideas look better than this nightmare. If anything, it would kill WOW.
And judging by all these replies, they probably think the same thing.
