There's no point in renaming him, the names iconic now and the damage already done, keep the name as the general playerbase and fans usually won't have the employee come to their mind first over the cowboy. All it boils down to is a useless pr stunt where they're saying "Hey guys we're good people and pat us on the back for this change!"

The game has been out for almost 6 years and he was part of the OG cast. Honestly, at release, blizzard did such a good job of connecting people with the characters that all of the OG characters are iconic and any name change would feel weird af. After almost 6 years of calling this character mc Cree nobody is just suddenly going to start calling him Pedro or w.e the fuck they have planned. It's not like they just released sojourn for example and a couple months later decide to change her name. This is a character that existed since the beginning of the game and has established lore and identity. Not to mention he is one of the most popular characters in the game.

Tracer is explicitly involved in 2 of the 3 anniversary stories (being her first mission, and as mission led).

Just because something was a part of something for a long time doesn't suddenly grant it iconic status. All it means it has been around for a long time.
