Wisconsin school district opts out of free school lunches...cuz Boostraps

    https://www.businessinsider.com/wauk...tudents-2021-8

A Wisconsin school district says students can 'become spoiled' with free meals and opts out of Biden's free-lunch program
Because, God forbid those filthy poors and their children could stop worrying about at least 1 meal on school days without first having them beg for it.

I honestly can't wrap my mind around the moral compass of "conservatives".

What are you conserving? Human misery and child hunger?

Joe at least gave his followers a nourishing meal of silver spray paint. That’s a shade better than what the John Galt Fan Club offers.

If you really want to know.

Typical everything lined up great for me so I could do XYZ... why can't everyone do xyz since I was able to bullcrap.

At first glance, this is spiteful and pathetic.

But, needy kids can still get free meals through the standard government program.

Personally, feeding all children is not an expense I mind very much.

Investing in education is the best way to reduce crime rates. This includes programs like free lunch of extracurricular activities.

((also it cost more to throw away the lunches than to just let someone eat them - the entire chain is subsidized))

I'm just a cosplay socialist though so don't mind me.

Well, if the kids get fed, they might not be too distracted by their rumbling stomachs and actually get educated.

We can't have that, now can we?

"Biden helped feed hungry children" is not a headline that conservatives in a purpleish state want their fellow Wisconsinites reading.

Good god these people are evil. Likely conservative, too, given how the insane rhetoric lines up with right wing rhetoric.

So, to reduce the profit of for profit prison system? Can't have that. Stop hating freedom with such ideas!

I have it on good authority that this isn't what Jesus would do.

According to some memes on the far right, this is EXACTLY what Jesus would do. He would take the food right out of the children mouths and eat it himself.

No no no, remember, when Jesus was saying to help others selflessly, what he really meant was to be sure to expose people to hardships so they could help themselves. That way, you're helping them without having to put any thought or effort in yourself!

Why I remember the biblical story of the loaves and fishes in which, when faced with a hungry and expectant crowd who had come to hear and see him and who had not enough food... Jesus told them all it sucks to suck and to get jobs so they could buy their own food.

    ...that's how that went, right?

This is just cruel. The sad reality is that for some kids, this is the only guaranteed meal of the day. Whatever your opinions are on the parents of these children (and btw, there are many working poor who just can't make enough money to put enough food on the table, the idea that they are living the life of Riley is just detached from reality), this is just punishing children. The tab will just be picked up through other means. Truly pathetic.

When I went to private school I remember there were kids who had parents with 'good' jobs who also couldn't really afford school lunch. Thinking back, lunch at that school probably should have been free being that it was the ministry of a church...but we won't get into all of that. I've seen kids lie, cheat, bully, and steal so they could eat. No kid should be treating school like its a prison yard. And people often want to blame parents but these kids are often coming form homes where a parent is working 50+ hours a week or life threw them a curveball after they had kids. Lets the kids eat.

Do people realize that the district is still using the standard free-lunch program that has been used for years and years?

The standard free-lunch program that requires people to jump through bureaucratic hoops. Gotta love that American time tax. We know you're poor so we're going to make you file more paperwork just to make sure your life has more misery.

I mean, this isn't the travesty that people think it is. It's basically going back to the way things have been for decades.

I have no real issue with having free lunch for all kids, but this isn't as outrageous as people would have us believe.

No its just another example of how the Freedumb party loves bureaucratic walls instead of simple efficiency. I would've thought that someone who loves freedom would hate the red tape solution. I guess not.
