I worked in admissions at a college for a bit.
The older black women there had this thing they'd tell me about in church where the onus was on them in the front row to wear blankets so the pastor would stop looking up their skirts.
That it was men's natural way etc. and even the congregation agreed.
There are many forms of predatory behavior I could point out to them to no avail.
Catholic church aside, that shit is systemic in religion.
I don't need to mention the scouts either.
People are blind to what's right in front of them only to create fictional enemies to fill the gaps.

In all this time I've actually only heard about the one and it's that recent one from the spa and the guy was already a homeless nutjob that had done it before.
But they'll lump every trans person together under that tent now.
Yet fight tooth and nail to not have the same done to them about their own less than desirables.

In this case, prior convictions for indecent exposure.

"homeless nutjob" can be used against trans people that are discriminated against for housing, and perhaps you've heard of the mental health problems trans people face.

Yah so many big scary ones like these that the right wing/religious right are so afraid of.

I mean really I think its a bigger problem if they walk into the men's room. Sure seems like a bigger "risk"

I don’t understand how big cooperation that are eying Texas as a place to HQ. Well who needs rights when your company's investors gets targeted tax rebates.
Texas is a test run for what is planned for the rest of the US once the GQP are back in power. I think we just may be seeing a real life version of Gilead forming right in front of us.

This is what happens when you tolerate intolerance and it is only going to get worse from here on out.

And no, voting won't fix this. GQP will have the elections rigged for 2022/2024 and have the full support of a GQP SCOTUS. This is a plan that has been 50+ years in the making.

For those too lazy to click the links:

You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.”
Conservatism at least in the US is just repackaged Jim Crow bullshit.

A lot of lefties are gonna blame republicans for what's happening in Texas, but no. This is exactly what we already knew they wanted to do. There's no surprise here. This is happening because dems lack spine. It's always been a problem of theirs for at least my entire adult life.

It's happening right now with Breyer. We are now suffering the consequences of RBG's mistake and Breyer is repeating it. Maybe this will wake him up and cause him to actually put the country first instead of his own desires? Who knows.
Biden administration needs to find a way to impeach the newer SCOTUS judges and yes they absolutely 100% can be impeached not to mention we can just add more judges. Don't blame RGB for the inaction of Democrats. We have solutions to this.

The only way they've been able to hold on to power is through anti-democratic institutions like the Electoral College and the Senate. Trump would have never became president if we elected presidents like a real democratic republic.

As far as my comment about their cruelty being pointless goes, I think I should have phrased it better. Imo, modern conservatism (i.e., the "MAGA Patriot" who hates Democrats, liberals, blm, immigrants, and plays Toby Keith on repeat) is cruel for the sake of being cruel. It doesn't have a real ideological foundation. They don't have a foreign policy or plans for job creation. It's a political movement built upon hatred and resentment. Their position is contrary to whatever position the Liberal consensus currently is. If that means telling your base not to get a vaccine for an incredibly infectious virus with a kill count over a million globally, then goddamn it they're not getting that pussy vaccine. It's literally the mindset of a spoiled fucking toddler, and a wise man once pointed out that childishness is sinister in adults.
Populists (and "national socialists") look at the supposedly secret deals that run the world "behind the scenes". Child's play. Except that childishness is sinister in adults.

So if anyone wanted to shoot their blood pressure through the roof in anger and disgust here is Legal Eagle explaining the Texas bounty hunter abortion law and how Conservatives in the Supreme Court have destroyed the legitimacy of the Supreme Court all the while they signaled the end of Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.

It's angry reacionaryism. Conservative traditionalists were so cozy sitting in their lofty position of social privilege that they see any attempt by anyone else to rise from their station as a personal attack against themselves.

And like any spoiled child who's not used to hearing mommy tell them 'no', they throw violent shit-fits and scream their heads off that the world is ending.

So basically because the State of Texas left the enforcement of its law to the citizen instead of State actors, the 5th circuit and Supreme Court didn't know if Roe v. Wade and attendant legislatures actually applied to the law, yet instead of pushing an injunction to block it until the proper procedures were exacted they decided to let it go and basically admit that the State legislature outplayed them and that its reward would be to trample over the SC's rulings?

Yeah, I get this would make people angry. It's a nakedly political decision where the highest court in the land surrenders its authority when politically convenient. The court stacking ensured the likely death of Roe v. Wade anyway but the procedure is highly shifty at best.

Watching the video breaking down the law structure and the - admittedly dubious - reasons the SC decided to not rule on it... How's the law in anyway enforceable? Like I'm sure he got into that, but the jargin's so all over the place I can't quite figure out how you enforce a law that doesn't involve the state enforcing it in the first place.

It's not, that's the point. The whole point of the law is to circumvent all that shit and simply leave every abortion services provider on a guillotine. The whole lawsuit is structured with the intent to allow for meritless lawsuits against providers, which the providers much legally defend against. This means potentially thousands of lawsuits from randoms, who can have their lawsuits funded by wealthy Republican backers. Lawsuits which the providers must respond to, meaning hiring armies of lawyers to handle them.

And if the sue-ers win? They get their legal fees back. If the abortion services provider wins? They do NOT get their legal fees back. Because that's the point, to financially bankrupt abortion service providers since they can't legally stop abortions.

666 laws that go in effect on 1 day?

how does that even work, that would require voting on 1 law every 15 minutes for 4 weeks straight assuming they work 8 hours a day.

that's an insane number even if it was a years worth.

They only meet every other year so yeah, basically what they do during a session. They also extended this session twice.

I still hold out hope that these theocratic sacks of subhuman garbage don't have the balls to overturn Roe v. Wade or PP v. Casey because they know that will light a fire under the rest of the country to eject their worthless asses from as many places of power as possible. But that hope is very slim at the moment.

As Edge- said, the point isn't to enforce it as it is, the point is to squeeze clinics tight by burying them in lawsuits until they give up, or close up shop to avoid said suits (which if I understand right is already happening). Obviously the legal challenges regarding this aren't anywhere close to done, both at the State and federal level, but even if by some miracle the SC eventually rules the law unconstitutional and it gets repealed, the damage will already have been done, most if not all legal abortion centers will have closed up shop and the service will have been greatly set back.

Not to mention other Republican States are likely going to write their own laws doing the same thing now that the floodgates have been opened.

It's not that complicated. It's just divorced from any level of basic decency.

They're angry and unhappy people. Why doesn't even really matter, save that there is no easy solution (their job sucks but they can't get a better one, black people exist, the JEEEEEWS, take your pick). Because they can't fix what makes them upset, the only way they can feel better is by making sure someone else suffers worse. Conveniently, this often lines up with what's making them upset in the first place, giving them a double-whammy. Consider a racist dingbat who hates black people. By being cruel to black people, they both A> hurt black people and their quality of life, making the racist feel better about their lot, and B> possibly actually contribute to societal change to oppress black people more concretely, to boot.

The cruelty is the point. It isn't to achieve some noble goal, it's always in pursuit of some greater cruelty. There is no exception that I have seen, at this point. I used to try and give them a lot more benefit of the doubt, assuming there must have been something I wasn't seeing, but the last 5 years or so have really ripped that blindfold right off, as they've stopped pretending.

Couldn’t someone, in theory, sue anyone or really any entity for suspicion of this crime? They’d have to defend themselves regardless.

Someome could launch all sorts of scurrilous lawsuits against any entity they didn’t like under the pretense of them braking this law.

I'm not familiar enough to say for sure but...maybe? A read of the law indicates that it's theoretically possible, just with an absolute guarantee you'll be stuck with legal fees and won't get the bounty.

But if some wealthy liberals wanted to go on a rampage, I suppose they could sue all kinds of Republican officials and non-healthcare companies asserting that they were involved with providing or funding abortion services.
