Who the fuck knows. The lore got fucked the moment they tried to introduce alternative universes and had to weasel there way out of a reason why there weren't 400 Sargerases in our universe.
They could have just made the Shadowlands related to things that died on Azeroth or at least planets TIED to Azeroth in some way such as Outland with the Dark Portal. The planet has been around for a VERY long time, so it's not impossible to create an entirely new set of characters who died like a bajillion years ago or something.

Also for your question like... How exactly DOES that shit work anyway? There are a bunch of different timelines and whatnot, so why exactly is there a singular version of any character now? What about the timeline where Arthas was able to stop Kel'thuzad before he sent out the plagued grain to Stratholme. Where is that version of the characters? Or like imagine if that timeline's Uther was the one to somehow die first and he's just chilling in Oribos having a great time when all of a sudden he's overcome with a horrendous sense of dread and regret as his alternative version merges with him.

Pretty sure they fucked this up with their explanation of demons in WOD (specifically when asked about which Archimonde were we fighting). The Shadowlands just borrows from the same nonsense.

They could've just said everyone in the Shadowlands goes through a ceremony where the different AU fragments of their souls get bonded to them or something.

i dont know anything about the lore ingame. i didnt play shadowlands at all, i dont even own it
The shadowlands (Or rather, the maw) was connected at Icecrown citadel, and the whole Lich king schtick turns out to have been a plan by the Jailer, so that's why Icecrown and Torghast (The tower you see) have a similar style.

This should be a great opportunity for the Maw Walker to find allies for their coalition on other planets. Since the souls of people on other planets go to the Shadowlands, the Maw Walker could just use the transport gates to go around to the different realms within the Shadowlands and ask for people who came from different planets besides Azeroth. The Maw Walker could then ask them a few questions and find out how powerful their people are, what their culture is like, if they would join or ally with the Alliance/Horde, etc. Then the Maw Walker could bring this critical info back to their coalition on Azeroth and plans could be made to try to contact that race on that planet and open negotiations, trade, etc. The Alliance would be massively advantaged as thus far they are the only faction on Azeroth capable of spaceflight. Horde would have an uphill battle as they don't have spaceflight, so would be dependent on having the nation on the other planet they want to contact come to them... and the Horde would have little to offer to that nation.
