Yes you heard that right, Larry Elder the front runner in the California recall election(who is black by the way) says that if anyone should be owed reparations it should be slave owners and not the slaves. While appearing on Candace Owens(who is also black) radio show they talked about reparations and that because their "legal property" was taken from them that slave owners should have been paid reparations. Not the the thousands upon thousands of slaves who's forebearers were taken from their homes, packed so tightly onto ships they could barely move, sold like cattle, forcibly bred with one another to make strong babies, women and girls raped by their masters, beaten/killed if they tried to escape and finally worked until their dying breath. Ya those people don't deserve any reparations but the people who did all that to them totally deserve it.

So beyond the fact that Larry Elder is the living embodiment of Samuel L. Jackson's character Stephen from Quentin Taratino's Django Unchained there are other reasons that Larry Elder is a piece of crap. He believes that minimum wage should be gotten rid of(real surprise there with his views on slavery) and that all Covid restrictions should be removed and no one should need to get a vaccine because well over 660 thousand Americans and growing dead is not a really big deal. He probably has other beliefs and traits that make him a horrible politician but these three are enough for me to never vote for him.

Well, here's the thing. Sam Jack's character in DU actually made some sense. Sure, he was a slave...but he was a slave in a comfortable position with no better options that he could see. He lived his entire life as a slave and this was as good as it got for him. Now, I'm not arguing that Stephen wasn't a piece of shit...but his situation is somewhat understandable in the context of his living conditions. Elder's got no excuse.

The logic isn't even particularly fucking good. Can easily turn that around, and say that the government (who upheld the legality of slavery), took away the legal property of slaves, their very being and independence, and hence the capacity to use said property to use it for manual labour that you can then sell as a "good" to a plantation owner.

It is an immensely shit stance, but equally so also completely kneecapped by its own logic.

Its a good thing these candidates are so vile, the recall election has been a huge inconvenience. It could be a lot worse, but hopefully "inconvenience" will be the end of it since many people would rather stay the course than invite such a level of villainy to power.
