"Elite Mythic" Challenge-Mode Raid Difficulty - (Cosmetics Only)

Would you be okay with an "Elite Mythic" Challenge-Mode raid difficulty? (Y/N/M)

    Let me explain:

    • Elite Mythic Challenge-Mode would be a 20 man raid difficulty where it scaled all gear players are wearing to a certain ilvl.
    • All raids in the game (all the way back to Molten Core to current expansion raids) would be available in this mode.
    • The trash, and bosses would be ultra hard. It would take pin point precision and coordination and several attempts to kill bosses in this "challenge" mode.
    • No "gets easier over time", it would be content that would never be removed, so players of all skills would have ample opportunity to get better and clear all challenge mode raids if they really wanted to.
    • It would be a step in the direction of making all raid content created in the game relevant at all times.
    • It could also have some sort of timed mechanic to it, as an added layer of rewarding players. So if you complete it in Bronze, Silver, or Gold times, you get better or different rewards as a result.

    The Rewards?:

Only cosmetic, transmog items, along with mounts, pets, toys. No character power upgrades at all.

It could be rewarded by completing a raid, by a set of raids, by expansion, by theme, etc. There could be several ways to put rewards in this system. Kill a certain number of bosses, get rewarded, kill more bosses, get better rewards, kill all bosses, ultimate rewards.

You don't think so? I think raiding guilds around the world would love this.

Also, challenge modes were hugely popular in MoP and WoD. Bring it to the raiding scene and it would be even more popular than before.

That is complete garbage idea imo. We already have mythic only cleared by 10%.

All raids would be available? I don't think you understand how big of a task that is to tweak them all to Elite Mythic kind of precision tuning...

probably the only thing that'd get me to come back to raiding

provided it was all isolated from the excessive secondary grind systems

Think they tried something like this for Ulduar once where there was a special reward (maybe just achievement) for completing the raid wearing only the ilevel gear you get from the raid.
Pretty sure no one actually did it.

It SOUNDS like a good idea, but people aren't really looking for actual challenges in this game it seems.

You said ultra hard, so I would guess you mean by that current mythic or higher. Mythic raiding is already a tiny fraction of the playerbase, now imagine it not rewarding player power. The only people that would be able to do it are the ones that don't care about how their character looks

yeah, not really, they were done by what, 1/10 of players? (as per wowhead its 10% for panda and 8% of wod, not the best source but dont have other)

I refer you good Sir to Crucible of Storms. Yes it awarded gear but it was largely ignored by the raiding community as way too hard for what little you got, considering it dropped roughly the same loot as BoD and tuned for CE players.
Your idea overall is done in FF14, of which I personally don't play so my opinion is to not have it in WoW.
WoW has always been a gear loop in the raiding scene. 20 man challenge modes, no thank you.

also this is a good point

    More elitism in this game?
    Nah, pass.
I haven't played for several years, how many months would I have to beg guilds to take me into one of their runs?

This game needs less toxic, elitism content. Not more.
And more challenging fair (scaled) solo content.

They should've just tied raid titles to Cutting Edge feats similar to how 3.0.2 removed the TBC titles. Would be a lot cleaner than the current Hall of Fame nonsense.

I think a better start would be having the raids become Ulduar-style raids: normal and heroic difficulties, with some bosses having hard modes equivalent to the current mythic difficulty that yield non-power rewards (i.e. cosmetics, titles, mounts, etc.). Ultimately, I think it would be fine to make everything flex, as you can still make challenging content with variable raid sizes. Solves multiple problems, including ilvl/power scaling issues over time, development/balancing time spent on tuning 4 different difficulties on every boss, having to account for various ilvl differences for each mythic encounter, progression/accessibility issues, and so forth.

The inherent problem with converting old raids into highly challenging content is that quite literally the difficulty of raids has been escalating for years, and it's more than just a simple scaling adjustment to make the raids feel like more of a challenge. Now I personally feel the difficulty curve has been amped up way more than it should have been, as it's one of many factors that makes mythic raiding inaccessible compared to all other forms of raiding... probably not the main reason, but it is still a reason. Be that as it may, such a concept of making all raid content viable or worth running isn't a bad idea, but I don't feel like it's something that can be uniformly retrofitted the further you go back in raids. The other issue stems around borrowed power systems that are no longer in place, or even abilities that used to exist but no longer do... basically, you have Blizz's design philosophy of "everything gets thrown out when the new xpac comes around" working against you.

One encounter, or rather achievement specifically, that I always enjoyed was killing Algalon in Ulduar with no higher than 226 ilvl (I think that was the limit, been a while since WotLK ). While ToC raid threw a little wrench into the system by adding more gear options within that ilvl, overall the general concept was you cannot get this achievement by outgearing it. That concept expanded to capping power rewards at the heroic raid level would also allow hard-mode style mythic versions of heroic fights much easier to tune, while also preserving the 'e-peen flex' reward as there's no way to outgear the content when it's current. This isn't even getting into all the secondary and tertiary benefits of going with such a system, as it would address many of the reasons why many heroic raiders never make the leap to mythic despite having the skill to do it, or the issues that many mythic raiders face or feel compelled to address.

No idea is perfect, but the Ulduar-style raid was probably the best answer they've had when it comes to raiding and its structure. Making a few adjustments could make it even better.

Damn man. Now that you say it. Apart from the 'M', the name is an anagram!! holy shit! mods!

It would be a failure if you kept it at "ultra hard". Thing is there's really good mythic guilds where half the players (or more) don't care at all about mounts, cosmetics or pets for example. Tuning it as an "elite mythic" would mean nobody would probably clear it because you'd need your mythic guild but most players raid for the rewards not cosmetics and such.

10% of raiders and % of playerbase with aotc is 7% so 10% of 5% or so as not all aotc ppl do mythic
