Finally wow may be coming to next gen consoles

I don't see the point. WoW is an old ass game now, and its 16+ years of spaghetti code sound like a nightmare to port to consoles properly; there's more to it than just making sure it's compatible with controllers. Admittedly the Series S/X OS isn't too different from Windows but for One and Playstation platforms I doubt it'll be anywhere near easy.

Besides, the barrier to entry in WoW isn't that high. It runs on potatoes- almost literally so in the case of Classic. I doubt there's an appreciable userbase that always wanted to try/replay WoW but don't have a computer that can run it.

If it goes console, most likely they won't bother with older xbox, playstation 99% won't be getting one.

It should be pretty easy to grab some more money even if there won't be much new players, kinda like classic, little time investment for potential profit.

Those quirks aren't a problem when architecture is the same and OS is almost the same. Remember that wow works on linux-wine and osx.

If anything, those quirks are performance bottleneck and most importantly, issue when developing new content.

I would, (with 95% certainty) said compat is the least of their concerns with new xbox.

And most importantly, WoW runs on Windows. XBox OS is based on Windows and shares all the same gaming APIs Windows has.

Porting WoW to XBox is probably simpler than porting it into the M1 Macs.

M1 is ARM, would need to recompile whole thing for entirely different processor architecture. All modern consoles, modern typical PCs (almost regardless of OS) are x86.

It's kind of bewildering how incapable people seem to be of understanding how MMOs with proper controller implementation work.

And it is funny when WoW is already almost there. Shadowlands added controller support: you can move around and bind action bars to controller inputs even without any Addons.

Consoleport just makes the UI look nicer for gamepad controls, and makes all the menus usable with one. Previously you needed a middleman program that translated controller inputs into keyboard strokes taht the game could understand, but even that is not needed anymore.

They don't. It doesn't make sense (to not support gamepad) at this point since wow has some gamepad support but it is possible.
Just like it is possible to release a PC game without K&M support. And just like you can play on gamepad on PC already.

And no, its not too much work. Its actually very little work.

Nobody said anything about "huge untapped market", but its a market nonetheless.

Still doesn't mean WoW will.
You need way too many buttons to some of the classes for it to be remotely viable on console. And that's not even speaking of healers who needs to be able to quickly target any member of the group / raid

FFXIV classes have way more buttons than WoW on average and it can still be played with a controller. The system is quite cleverly designed. I'm sure they'll get around it at Blizzard.

Shooters is one thing but nothing other than targeting maybe could be that hard on controller. Maybe a healer could have it worst off but dps and tank not really. I use a controller on ff14 for those and it’s fine if not better, or more relaxing at lest.
Also just cause it’s on console doesn’t mean you will be forced to play that way.

As i said before: Ofc u can play casual with a controller, but u wont can do high m+ keys, mythic/hc raid bosses or even healing is super stressfull, cause u need to change targets. And tanking in m+, kiting with sidewalks/dump so you still dodge/parry, but arent as slow as backpaddeling, or you need to place things like Ring of Peace while u kite whatever. And You cant do any pvp with a controller unless you play pvp on a vanilla casual level, where you just stand 1on1 and try to kill the other one with your pve rotation.

There was a addon guide a couple years back that change WoW to a gamepad friendly version (UI, menus, camera). I tried it and tbh it was enough for me to be convinced there's no real reason why WoW couldn't be on consoles.

You can if you are good with a controller. Most can’t but some can and do. I have done mythic with people who only have one arm and I believe that to be more hard than just using a controller. Don’t say people can’t do something cause you will be surprised what can be done.

what he's really saying is that diablo 3 will now be on game pass, as well as any other ATVI titles they can. They aren't going to put WoW on consoles... but if they ever do WoW 2, it is a guarantee practically that it would land on consoles and be designed with them in mind
