I am generally not in favour of mass murder, regardless of how solid the reason behind it is. Ukraine cannot possibly detain them all. Maybe trade them for the people Russia abducted but I don't see that working.

However russia did put a moratorium on executing prisoners so de facto it is gone if not de jure. The withdrawal of russia from the Council of Europe is worrisome for that reason.

Either way, I'm sure people would be willing to forgive the execution of traitorous scum. I know I would and I'm usually very much against the death penalty. But if you're one of the fine people colluding with the Russians and governing the "annexed" territories in their name, I'd love to see you hang from the neck until death occurs.

In 2012, Latvia became the last EU member state to abolish capital punishment in wartime.

Granted that's the EU, but as you can see there's plenty of countries which have a total abolishing including in wartime. If Ukraine wants to join the EU then it will have to behave accordingly.

Let's hope it isn't lynch mobs. Those have a bad track record when it comes differentiating between actual traitors and people who were forced to assist. Nothing worse than having to assist people you hate to protect your family, only to have yourself (and possibly your family) killed for it when help finally comes.

There's even a children's book where one man is suspected of being a collaborator and after the liberation he is subjected to humiliation, violence and so on, only for his tormentors to discover he was hiding Jews in his attic during the entire war.
