Let's hope it isn't lynch mobs. Those have a bad track record when it comes differentiating between actual traitors and people who were forced to assist. Nothing worse than having to assist people you hate to protect your family, only to have yourself (and possibly your family) killed for it when help finally comes.

    ???

You offer criminals a chance to escape?
Sometimes, the light of the moon is a key to other spaces. I've found a place where, for a night or two, the streets curve in unfamiliar ways. If I walk here, I might find insight, or I might be touched by madness.

I am generally not in favour of mass murder, regardless of how solid the reason behind it is. Ukraine cannot possibly detain them all. Maybe trade them for the people Russia abducted but I don't see that working.

Having them run away scot-free to become yet another "cleanse Ukraine" voice in Russia is also not a solution. I don't advocate lynching, but I also don't advocate zero consequences.

Well the most likely consequence if they stay there IS lynching. And them losing their houses and livelyhoods in eastern Ukraine is a consequence.

However russia did put a moratorium on executing prisoners so de facto it is gone if not de jure. The withdrawal of russia from the Council of Europe is worrisome for that reason.

The irony of abolishing a death penalty while in a war...

Do you think that angry mob getting those people would care about any of that?

I'm not sure if the death penalty is abolished in war times.

Either way, I'm sure people would be willing to forgive the execution of traitorous scum. I know I would and I'm usually very much against the death penalty. But if you're one of the fine people colluding with the Russians and governing the "annexed" territories in their name, I'd love to see you hang from the neck until death occurs.

I mean they identify as Russian, they can go there. Indeed offer that "option" to everyone identifying as Russian over any other nationality and residing in any country neighbouring Russia.

In 2012, Latvia became the last EU member state to abolish capital punishment in wartime.

Granted that's the EU, but as you can see there's plenty of countries which have a total abolishing including in wartime. If Ukraine wants to join the EU then it will have to behave accordingly.

Looks like air defence may have been HARMed.

At minimum, tell every single person that holds dual citizenship of russi and some EU country, that they must give up one of them.

This needs to happen more than anything. If those mythical good Ruskies want civilization, then they can renounce the terrorist state of RuZZia, and be here. But not if their loyalties still lie with terrorist states.

They really ought to stop smoking near military assets.

But But according to some people, if you assist (even by "force) you are a traitor.

If we take a look at History, see what happened in France after the occupation. We had mobs lynching people left and right, shaving women who were suspected of having sex with German soldiers for instance, etc... Not a really glorious sight.

It is a very complicated situation. Obviously, leaders should be put on trial for treason, but the common civil servant ? Not so sure about that, really depend of the context.

Same in the Netherlands tbh. There's even a children's book where one man is suspected of being a collaborator and after the liberation he is subjected to humiliation, violence and so on, only for his tormentors to discover he was hiding Jews in his attic during the entire war. It is rarely black and white.
