The first point is that while it happens today - it is (except for the Greek orthodox church that celebrate epiphany and not Christmas; it seemed about 78% of orthodox Christians followed the Julian calendar in 2021 - I don't know how it will be this year) technically not a celebration on January 7th, but a celebration on December 25th in the Julian calendar.
The second point is that Ukraine (well, specifically the Orthodox Church of Ukraine - not the Ukrainian Orthodox Church) is somewhat switching their church calendar to be closer to the calendar in the west in a deliberate move away from Russia (while Serbia keeps their ties with Russia and very few care about Ethiopia; and Estonia have, of course, also moved away from Russia).
That's why I ended with saying that the Christmas-truce was part of Russia's vain imperial ambitions, and Ukraine's rejection was part of their cultural move west-ward.
(However, there are some indications that it will not be the Gregorian calendar (named after a catholic pope), but the "revised Julian calendar" (still named after a heathen dictator); we'll see in March 2800 if that is really true. (And if the forum is still active, please reply then - it will annoy the mods!)
I was today years old when I learned that apparently russia had an agreement with Ukraine that some Ukrainian factories were in charge of building and maintaining the engines on the russian Satan ICBMs, and that they have now officially terminated that agreement.
Can't find a link to source that you could click without having to give your PC a penicillin shot yet, but lets see if more mainstream sources will pick this up.
Is this the photo out of Bakhmut?
There is one going around (that I wont link) that shows an open field with at least 60 dead russians in a very small area. Looks like they tried a WW1 style zerg rush across a field and got wrecked. And it was only showing a part of the field so there might have been more dead elsewhere not in the shot.
Looking very cold in russia but practically nowhere else.

I truly am freezing to death with room temperature being 3C higher than I'd like. Outside may be cold, but only compared to summer as these winters have become less cold each year for now.
I don't know how long you've been in Finland, and I may be "just" 34 years old, but I truly, without exaggerating can say, that when I was young, the winters easily were -30C. Now, they will not really be that low![]()
That be why I moved to Turku from Helsinki last May. Less greyish concrete jungle (and Soviet-like architecture), more green (and more "old school" swedish-inspired architecture). Apparently there's a story about why Helsinki became the capital, because under russian reign, they didn't like Turku being too close to Stockholm![]()
“This will end when we achieve a victory or when the Russian Federation decides they want it” to end, Zelensky said. “It may happen that they will only decide to end the war if they feel they are weak, they are isolated and they don’t have any partners on that. Let us have faith that this will end in the next few months.” --- Zelensky
Take all of the lands back! I say.
If you are particularly bold, you could use a Shiny Ditto. Do keep in mind though, this will infuriate your opponents due to Ditto's beauty. Please do not use Shiny Ditto. You have been warned.

Pentagon weighs sending Stryker combat vehicles to Ukraine
Fantastic news. Hopefully it will be like the previous items where the stuff is already on the move and by the time we do state we are giving it to them it is only several days away from getting in Ukraine's hands. The U.S. is considering sending Stryker armored combat vehicles to Ukraine in an upcoming aid package to help Kyiv fend off an expected Russian spring offensive, according to two people familiar with the discussion.
The news follows the Biden administration’s announcement last week that it will send 50 Bradley Fighting Vehicles, a powerful tracked armored vehicle that carries an autocannon, a machine gun and TOW missiles.
The Strykers may be part of the next tranche of military aid, according to a Defense Department official, who like others asked for anonymity to discuss internal deliberations ahead of an announcement. The administration could announce the package, with or without Strykers, late next week around the time of the next Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting in Germany.
The people stressed that no final decision has been made, and the administration could decide to send the Strykers in a future package instead.
“We have no announcements to make at this time,” said Pentagon spokesperson Lt. Col. Garron Garn. A spokesperson for the National Security Council did not comment by press time.
Strykers would be another capability boost for Kyiv’s rapidly growing arsenal and would help meet a critical need for armor, as concerns grow that Russia is planning a second mobilization for a major new offensive in the coming weeks.
While Strykers are not as powerful or protective as tanks, the eight-wheeled armored fighting vehicle built by General Dynamics Land Systems can operate in snow, mud and sand, though off-road mobility is somewhat limited by its lack of tracks.
“Ukrainians need armored personnel carriers and short of other countries providing it, is what we have in inventory,” the DoD official said. “Not as good as a Bradley for a tank fight, but good to protect infantry and get up close to a fight.”
Tankies and vatniks posting their Ls. Love to see it.
