Sometimes, the light of the moon is a key to other spaces. I've found a place where, for a night or two, the streets curve in unfamiliar ways. If I walk here, I might find insight, or I might be touched by madness.

if anyone wants some good news remember this story from a while back :

Gruesome footage of a Russian mercenary holding a skull he claims is a Ukrainian soldier killed in battle has been shared online.

The clip shows pro-Putin fighter Igor Mangushev going on a rant calling for the Ukrainian population to be killed.
well Igor just got shot in the head

Reportedly by his own side too. Might even have been a hit/execution given his ties to the Prig.

even with 500k people you still have to attempt some sort of combined arms assaults which seem incredibly difficult for the Russians.

Look at what Wagner are reduced too.

They vaguely locate a Ukranian trench. Send men 8 at a time to go and try taking it. 1st wave = 8 men with grenades + maybe 1 thermometric weapon if they are lucky. They run as close to the line as they dare, attack and immediately dig in, if they retreat and fail the objective they are shot. Then the 2nd wave of 8 charge into their dug out position and whoever survives tries to call in artillery danger close, they are then meant to storm the trench as soon as the last shell is fired some times during. Wagnerites have reported up to 24 waves of 8 just to take one trench. Thats alot of dead Russians. This is only viable for them because they are sending Russian prison fodder, a mix of murders and pedos. I doubt mobiks would tolerate this.
WWI is really the apt comparison here. This Putinist, casualty-heavy approach works, but only on a very small scale. It involves trading hundreds or thousands of lives for incremental gains that are easily measured in meters, not kilometers. This probably looks good to the nascent warlords competing to produce good news to report back to the imperial court in Moscow, but militarily it's of very minimal utility.

In theory, it can wear down Ukrainian defence gradually, until the orcs either get lucky or exhaust the defenders and finally get a breakthrough. In practice, I'm skeptical that breakthrough will happen and that the orcs will be able to exploit it usefully if it does. It feels like Putin's generals have come to realize that they're incapable of successful combined-arms maneuver warfare, so they're engaging in these sorts of Pyrrhic assaults so that they can be seen to be doing something, and hoping events go in their favor.

Some of them are psychopathic cases and would ordinarily be receiving treatment somewhere. Others are exalted and in a frame of mind that knows no reason."

And now suddenly he has been shot in the head. In battle? "Doctors say that he was wounded as a result of a shot from a short-barreled gun at close range in the occipito-parietal region downwards at an angle of 45 degrees."
Now I ain't a ballistics expert but I do know my angles, and where that region is.... I'm just going to assume Prig will be avoiding windows and random offers of tea for the forseeable future. (that or he's going to try to start a civil war.)

Who says they are obsessed about Kyiv?

(if Kyiv comes up a lot it could be because it's the fucking capital of the country)

Assumedly yes (the UN charter generally doesn't allow wars - but says that countries may defend themselves alone or with others, whereas it is the earlier Hague convention that states that war shall be declared; neither has any meaningful penalties for violating it), but my point that that declaration of war is rarely used nowadays still stands.

The reason Ukraine hasn't declared war on the invading Russians is, of course, fairly obvious when you think about it - it wouldn't give any benefit and only give Ruzzians another confused reason for their undeclared war.

as for the "500k is scary"
its only scary to people that know they don't have the equipment to RUIN those 500k soldiers before they cross the field they stepped on to

Ukraine has been fighting with worse odds before
    now they have gear
    BEYOND battlehardened troops
AND they are pissed, and defending their homes

id say the risk is those 500k soldiers seeing the front squads be mowed, and finally say "fuck this, Id rather fight the sergent and putin, I might live then"

"Law and Order", lots of places have had that, Russia, North Korea, Saddam's Iraq.

Nah, that was Nadia who killed Stalin via poisoned tea. Kane then shot her in the back and left the player as the ruler of the USSR until nod rises in the 1990s

Red Alert One - Soviet ending on hard, its canon is questionable, but with all the time travel, no one flat out denies it

Red Alert Soviet Ending. The game was originally designed as the prequel to the original C&C, but EA took control of Westwood and forced the two games into separate timelines.

If Republican lawmakers are apathetic to Ukraine, this gives their corporate backers who ultimately tell them what to do when it comes to actual policy incentive to push them towards Ukrainian support. And I’m fairly certain the number of “disinterested republicans who don’t care about Ukraine beyond its viability as a political tool” that can be made to support it outnumber the “owned outright by Russia” republicans like trump who actively undermine Ukraine.

Wait, I thought this special operation was to denazify Ukraine, why would Russia want to conquer it?
