Seriously, Moldova borders a NATO country in Romania, whom are highly sympathetic to Moldova, and on the other side is a country Russia is already at war with that won't just let them through. The logistics just isn't there, and I'm pretty sure even the Russians realise they're better served having their people in Moldova just be passively threatening than making them actually do anything violent.

Even if that laughable number were remotely true, I think both political parties in the US would move mountains to generally prevent US citizens from going off to fight for a hostile government mercenary force. The democrats would fight stop it because they know Ukrainian lives would be in peril, and the republicans would fight to stop it because they can't afford that many of their constituents leaving the US and dying if they want to win elections in the future.
