Russian invasion of Ukraine

Sooo.. I'm following the war through certain youtube channels (pro Ukraine, I have to add)
But to me it looks like, while Russia keeps wasting and losing shit (serious infighting as well), so does Ukraine and it seems like Russia gains ground (very, very slowly)

What do you guys think? How long will Ukraine hold out? I feel like the support from the west is too slow.
I understand that they are doing an amazing job, they are certainly the underdog punching(defending) way above their class. But even with the mostly positive posts, which the ukraine channels upload, I can't help but notice that Russia keeps gaining ground. Bakhmut for example, where Ukraine is now slowly losing ground around the railroads, their last defensive line in that city (which is no more than a pile of dust and rubble.)

Because Ukraine is simply buying time waiting for their counter attack to be ready. Over the last few months that have been supplied with a lot of tanks and armoured vehicles and troops send abroad to train are returning.

Rather then continually pushing and depleting their army they made a push before the winter and regained ground and then held tight through the winter repulsing Russian counters in order to push again in spring.

The russians are throwing everything they have at Bakhmut and are making very, very slow progress to capture a largely irrelevant city. And taking massive casualties doing so. Estimates are 30,000 russian losses doing so.

Ukraine is happy to bleed them dry, slowly retreating as they do. The troops in Bakhmut are largely territorial defence units - ie reserves. There main trained force is waiting to the mud ends so they can counter, a force that contains something like 21 brigades and includes some 1500 western supplied armoured vehicles, of which a few hundred are western tanks.

Oh, and even if they take it, they now hold a city with almost no buildings left intact which sits in low ground - west of the city is a series of heights looking down over the ruins. Which the russians will have to attack up if they want to push on. Kind of like the situation at Vuhledar.

russias offensive capacity does seem like it sucks given their offensive has only moved the line as far as you can throw a stone but they are killing some very decent ukranian troops there. Luckily for the Ukranians they are able to kill a much higher number of Russians by all accounts.

Ukraine stopped doing that tactic a while ago (sacraficing land for time and attrition) and dug in at Bakhmut. Its not just territorials they sent multiple special forces and regular troops there. The territorials were sent to plug gaps because the regular troops and special forces were taking such high casualties. It looks like they will lose the city but both sides are largely exhausted.

Ukies can just fall back to their next positions tho. But I'm not sure i have seen anything about a main force in reserve.

Other then 'nukes' there is no reality in which Russia destroys anything.

If you look at them failing in Ukraine and losing tens of thousands of soldiers for a meter of useless ground over a month of fighting and see them 'blast' the entirely of Ukraine and half of Europe in a few weeks your an idiot.

Nukes are the way obviously. Except this leading clunky war its still business for them. Just take a look how Europe is still addicted to Russian fossil fuels. Ukraine crisis impact whole Europe and US. China is goin also for Taiwan. Sum up and the result is China at the top after few years.

They "can blast it" in that they have the capability, but in doing so the country would either end up as glass or every country, even China, coming down on them and the entire place is broken up into smaller ones. At best it's not even a good pyrrhic victory and at worst the world needs to learn four new country's names as Putin goes down in that area's history as a dumber Hitler.

The problem with this plan is that the civilians can't live without supplies either, and the army will take what they need from the people long before they starve out themselves.

Wars are very inconvenient for everyone - there is nothing wrong with the plan as described.
