And then we will have global war. Scary to think off, but seems most likely tbf.

On our side, we probably have India who is gonna join NATO & America and then the usual alliance of Japan, Australia etc.
I had this happens on Heart of Iron 4 too. Was fun until the nukes started to drop everywhere.

China has more to gain by sitting by and watching Russia and NATO duke it out than joining in.

Like other rebellious regions in the past Putin will simply beat the population into submission with thugs and militia's

Population control is a lot easier when you don't care about silly things like human rights or rules of engagement.
And if they resist he just has an excuse to beat them even harder.

I think it's not a stretch to say this is the most serious global risk since the Cuban Missile Crisis, and possibly a bit higher risk than that. If you didn't have a chance to watch Putin's effectively declaration of war announcement last night, I'd suggest at least watching the last minute of it. He threatened consequences more severe than a country has ever seen (a thinly veiled nuclear threat) against any country that interferes, followed by "The order has already been given. I hope you hear me." and the broadcast ended. It was very chilling.

A subplot playing out in all of this is Turkey. Turkey had the unfortunate luck (or poor decision to wait too long) and landed 2 A400 military cargo aircraft at the Kiev airport right before the invasion started for evacuation of embassy personnel. But they didn't get out before the airport and airspace was closed. Having 2 NATO aircraft and whoever was onboard stranded in a very active warzone is not ideal and one of those things that could easily spark an escalation. I really hope that there is discussion going on between Turkey and Russia at some level to allow them safe passage out, or that they are able to evacuate by ground. Turkey also had military aircraft construction projects that were active between Ukraine and Turkey, they had sold TB2s to Ukraine at Russia's great angst, and Turkey had denounced Russia's invasion in the UN the day before. And Russia and Azerbaijan signed an unexpected agreement of cooperation earlier this week which Turkey was likely unhappy about. So it's a touchy situation to keep an eye on.

But this time the region is so much bigger and would require so much more effort, especially when you get less Russsia supporters the more you move to the west.

It will not matter. What matters is the neighbour who made it out of the Soviet Union and was well on on its way to becoming a democratic and prosperous country will be gone. Until now, some Russians may have harboured doubts that Putin's way is the only way and maybe things could be better, as there was a country next door doing just all right. Not any more.

I think Turkey just realised that Erdogan's delusions of grandeur aren't actually making them relevant. We'll see how this plays out.

Yee, I dunno. This may also have an opposite effect of hastening the decision of joining Nato, for example.

Untrue. But it's what Putin does. What we all want is for Putin dying of a stroke.

I guess, you have some old cold war cliches about Russia.

    Ex-Ukraine with Russia and evil-Putin:

Current eastern Ukraine with Zelensky and USA:

    Infracted.

It's just funny to hear, when some people cry "stop this war now", while they were silent for 8 years, while this war was actually happening.
You'Re really gullible. Plus there are more actual Nazis in russia than in Ukraine.

For a proper rebellion to rise, the aggressor's and defender's linguistic and cultural ties, as well as historical past have to differ a lot. I doubt there will be much resistance after the war ends. If there will be then probably in the western parts of Ukraine, in this case, Putin will just divide Ukraine in half. Not the best outcome for Ukraine.

Russia sending in irregular Mercenaries to fuck up parts of Eastern Ukraine.

WowIsDead: "See, it's unsafe without Russia!"

If after losing more than 20M people in war with German nazis Russia would have some racists and nazis, then this wouldn't be possible:
