The odds of getting accurate information as to what is going on inside Russia feel low to me; Putin is going to be quick to crack down on foreign reporters to keep news from getting out because this whole situation is going to be humiliating to him given it's one of the biggest threats to his grip on power in decades.

MSNBC is now reporting on it, saying that the Wagner group has left Ukraine and are heading into Russia. They are moving on Moscow and the Russian Army Headquarters.

It is important, but the biggest real most important question in what happens with Airforce. If they do not act - Wagner has much higher chance to succeed.

  5. #32205
The reports are they are heading towards Rostov, which is the HQ for the whole invasion.

Lukashenko's private plane has also departed Belarus a few hours ago, it flew toward Russia went south and has just crossed the Georgian border after which it turned straight toward Turkey.

The Prig is now saying that the air force was ordered to bomb his column but the pilots refused as they were moving alongside civilian traffic and the pilots didn't want to strike civilians.

That one doesn't sound as credible as indiscriminate bombing of civilians is what russia's air force does best.

Their own civilians is likely another matter if Wagner had already crossed into Russia or were deep in their held territory in Ukraine.

Still, IF true and Wagner is gunning for Moscow virtually unopposed... that is beyond spicy. I'll be watching this space.

Bruh, this is so cute, who cares about Hague. It's a toothless threat that is simply not on the books in any reality.

    ---

As for what is going on, the best outcome would be for this shit lasting for a while with Prigozhin ultimately losing but taking a lot of effort and pain from the authorities to get there.

Like something akin to this lasting few weeks and ultimately resulting in Wagner destroyed and taking a good chunk of regular army with it.

That would be the best outcome, because it will help counteroffensive immensely, while not having to contend with Prigozhin and his cutthroats as next leaders of Russia.

    ---

That said, I think this thing will play out in a matter of days at most with either Prigozhin or Shoigu head on a platter. It will be down to a good old assassination or two - either they take out Prigozhin or army turns and takes MoD heads into custody.

A few months ago someone asked me why Putin didn't eliminate Prigozhin, since he was stirring shit up even then. I told them that Wagner numbers around 50.000 well trained troops, not conscripts, and it represents an enormous part of Russia's armed forces potential. To eliminate Prigozhin would be suicide for the MoD given everything in Ukraine.

But apparently the Russian MoD tried to do so.

Man, Russia starting a civil war on a Friday so the world has the weekend to watch (sorry folks working this weekend, we appreciate your sacrifice) is really considerate of them.

I imagine a lot of Russia stans are pretty quiet right about now. I just hope Wagner and the FSB etc. mostly keep the killing to each other and whatnot. But hey, it's Russia, so high likelihood of intentional civilian casualties.

Good news first, the world's in great shape. We've got a civil war in Russia, government loyalists against ultranationalists rebels, and 15,000 nukes at stake.

Interesting development but I doubt this will make a difference for the Counter Offensive. For starters this isn't a civil war, give up on that narrative unless you are memeing. Wagner is mostly withdrawn from Ukraine and the major road block for Ukraine atm is that Russian defensive lines have been built to a good standard and Ukraine has no answer to Russian air power. Unless Wagner manages to cripple the Russian Air Force in it's death throes then Russia losing more of it's low quality infantry doesn't make any difference to the conflict.

I know people have found it hard to imagine that Prigozhin has been able to publicly slam the Russian state over and over without sanction but that's been his role in Russian propaganda, so long as he kept deflecting blame from Putin onto the Russian Military leadership then that was fine. Even his latest messaging still avoids laying any blame at Putin's feet. I guess what's gone wrong is that Putin has finally decided it's more advantageous to go all in on Shoigu than keeping up the circus of these public disputes.

It's a shame that something as juicy as this won't really make much difference but at least we can all wish Prig the best in taking out as much Russian hardware as possible during his self immolation.

According to Prig (so get a grain of salt) Wagner just shot down a Russian attack helicopter that was firing on civilians near Rostov.

More dead Russians, less Ukraine effort.
Zelensky is narrating it like it's a documentary, but using his Paddington voice.
