Russia's global trust issues aside, it just sounds so made up. 65 POWs is just a tier lower on the the sympathy scale than 50 orphan children or Chewbacca.

It's not unheard of though, during WWII several Japanese transports got torpedoed by the US, while carrying US POWs. If it happened it was a tragedy and wholly the fault of the russians unless they notified the Ukrainians beforehand.

It was PoWs. Specifically Urkainian PoWs. They were being flown to the front to supply the Russian forces.
Rations are hard to come by, so after their rape, torture, and death the Pieces of Warriors were being sent to the front as food.

Reality is not that simple. Putin is supported by most of the russian people because he lacks competition (they mostly end up dead or in prison) and he is opposed to the West which is seen as weak and decadent.

I remember there was a Russian poster a while back in this thread that devolved from his support of Russia into anger at zelensky, calling him something akin to a “drag-wearing performing clown” and that Ukraine should be an shamed laughing stock for having such a man as president. To which I pointed out that were one to find that embarrassing, it must certainly be more embarrassing to be losing to such an individual.

Seeing as the majority of Russian civilians seem to be wholly supportive of their country invading a neighboring sovereign nation under entirely fabricated pretenses whilst all the time crying that the world is being mean to them and that Russia is the real victim, what the average Russian thinks or believe is or isn't right doesn't seem to be worth very much.
